Had the same thing with 8.0 on a recent NEC desktop. Went back to kernel 2.2 and it sprang to life - sorta. Netscape was never ever happy on the machine (mind you the video card was an ATI builtin that XFree86 has never been entirely happy with). Cheers; Leon

Sorry to keep bugging about this (And reply to my own post) I am completely stumped, what kind of hardware/kernel interaction might this be? is there anything I can do to narrow down the problem any further, all the posts related to this seem to only require recreating the device. I would stick with 2.2 kernel, but then my sound card doesn't work... any and all suggestions welcome and appreciated Thanks Mark Roach

This is strange because both /dev/mouse and /dev/psaux are links to /dev/misc/psaux but only /dev/mouse works. (this problem occurs when i start X coz drakconf set mouse to /dev/psaux) Besides, cdrom (/dev/cdrom) points to a strange thing ../cdroms/cdrom/cdrom0 or something like that (which of course doesn't exist) Don't know why.. -- Sylvain OBEGI Email : [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ : 661913
