Sounds sensible. Current CVS AbiWord can apparently use Xft, though I
think you need CVS Xft too, so i've not tried it out. This is apparently
going to be their solution to the fonts problem, and it sounds good to
me.

AbiWord has, understandably, been abandoned by the
Mandrake packagers because of its insufferable font
problems. I've been reading AWN and it seems like a
lot of work has gone into fixing this, if it ever gets
completely solved, I'm sure it'll be accepted back
into main. In the meantime, you or anybody is free to
make an updated package of it and send it to Lenny,
and he'll most likely upload it when he gets back from
vacation (2 weeks from now if I remember right).

Natuerlich, I would not expect you to work on that. However...
According to abiword_and_unix_fonts.zabw (meant to succeed
UnixFonts.txt) this could be done easily on a per-distro basis, either
as a patch or more likely as a postinst script (for rpm). I would work
this stuff out myself if I had a mandrake box to work on. The same
document also describes ways (which i personally would choose to script)
to add other fonts (presumably those already present in the distro) to
abi's accessible list. I recall someone on cooker list complaining
about that.

No need to risk keeping 0992 held back from general consumption just for
this though (*wink*).

Attached are the release notes from Martin Sevior. Not as complete as
changelog (which covers a ton more bugfixes), but easier to read
(intended for end-users i believe).
Actually, I could go ahead and attach both ;). Note that the changelog
is a few days prior to tag. so it misses a bunch of last minute stuff.
These files appear to be in abiword's format (?).

Re: [Cooker] Abiword: 0.99.2.

2002-02-20 Thread Anthony Symons

I recently asked the abiword list if they would fix page up/down to move
the cursor, not just flip pages. No doubt I am not the only one who gets
really annoyed because I find a section of text with page up/down and go
to type or hit an arrow key and it jumps back to where the cursor was!

I was told it was recently fixed in CVS. I think this is a major
usability upgrade. Im not sure if its in 0.99.2 or just CVS at this
stage (I cant find it mentioned on the site) but I think it would a good
idea to include a version with this fix.

Someone else asked about cut + paste in kde. They were working on it a
day or 2 ago so I dare say not just yet. It doesnt work 100% under some
apps in gnome either. (although they may be kde apps).

Note that I am not an abiword developer, but I belive this infomation is
correct.

Well AbiWord still works fine despite the error, which
can be disabled by the user. Is there any way we
could have the error message already disabled before
the user has to see it?

Also, in
/usr/share/doc/abiword-0.00.1/TrueTypeFontsWithUnix.abw
in the second section it talks about using other fonts
on your system to replace the hideous ones that ship
with AbiWord. Is the distribution shipping with any
fonts that would be appropriate for replacing them?
If so, shipping our AbiWord package already configured
to use them would be really great. It might get rid
of the error message too.
