Ah! Well, we have a misunderstanding. Though I work on security updates, MandrakeSoft mainly pays me to do 'unspecified kernel hacking'. Chmouel maintains the 2.2.x ("official") mandrake kernel, and I maintain hackkernel... > > I'm totally concentrating on improving 2.3.x and getting Linux-Mandrake > > ready for it... > > Will 2.3.x (or 2.4) be included as standard in the 7.1 release? I don't want to submit it to Alan, I just want it included as a patch in the kernel we ship in Cooker and the next distro. Many new motherboards will come with this chip, and without the new driver, it's impossible to use MP3, the sound is garbled. > > I'm totally concentrating on improving 2.3.x and getting Linux-Mandrake > ready for it... Well, the current driver is in the official 2.3.x kernel so I'm happy. If you want to submit the 2.2.x driver to Alan go ahead, but IMHO 2.2.x is about at the end of its cycle. I'm totally concentrating on improving 2.3.x and getting Linux-Mandrake ready for it... -- Jeff Garzik | Rule 1: Building 1024| There is no cabal. MandrakeSoft, Inc. |

Re: [Cooker] Mandrake + i840 ?
Chmouel: thanks for the reply Jeff: can you add this in the kernel? I got a new driver for the CMI-8738 sound card that is found on most i840 boxes: http://www.cmedia.com.tw/edl8738.htm It is a *supported* update to the cmpci.o driver. It's supposed to support also the PCTel LinModem, but I haven't got it to work with mine. Re: [Cooker] Mandrake + i840 ?
I have an i810 motherboard here. I managed to get the i810 video card working, but it requires a kernel patch and XFCom binary. The CM8738 needs a special driver. Apart from that, it's been running fine for a few weeks. The only thing that is not working is the PCTEL software modem, but there is a driver for it. A guy in Taiwan told me he would help me get it working. I will upload the drivers as soon as I get everything working.
