A little addition -

the XFree version that works with the CLE266 Chipset is  4.3.99 snapshot 
release 8, however the xauth programm is buggy in that version ;o)

Give us some time.. Alan only got updated drivers from VIA one or two
weeks ago and they are not yet fully merged in XFree86/DRI/kernel..

But there is hope : I have now an EPIA system at home so I can test
easily..
