Sorry, you made me reboot and check the BIOS. You were right, my 'Video Off Option' was set to (Suspend = off). In 9.1 I didn't set anything and suspend worked. Set 'suspend=/dev/hdXY' in the append line of your boot loader configuration, where hdX is your hard disk (most likely hda), and Y is the partition number of your swap partition. Then, reboot, and 'pmsuspend' should work.
