Yes, I discovered this a few days ago. It has to be a bad anomoly
and should be removed. You should try the conventional mandrake tree
download call:

rsync rsync://ftp.uninett.no:873/Mandrake-devel/cooker/i586/

This traverses no symlinks.

Errhrrmmm.  What about mandrake-devel/cooker/cooker -> i586?

I believe that he is saying because there's an actual directory there as
well.

RPMS->real directory
RPMS.cooker->symlink

Even ncftp and lftp can't follow symlinks properly, so I would not be
surprised at all if Windows programs weren't even aware of them.

In how far can a symlink be "critical"? And why is RPMS.cooker ->
RPMS non-critical?

I don't understand...

Such things break Mandrakesoft's own rules. decided here some years
ago. You cannot use symlinks on mirrors. It assumes too much.
The mirror itself may not be a Linux box.

The few symlinks that are there (except the one in the subject) are
not used or critical to anyone wanting to download any of the trees
or iso images.

Sorry? In Cooker, there always was (and is) Mandrake/RPMS.cooker which
is a symlink to RPMS (ie. Mandrake/RPMS).

Mandrake cannot put any soft or hard links into any of their download
trees because people starting off usually have to use a Windows
downloader which knows nothing of any linking concept.

Like it is on sunsite.uio.no :( Seems like ftp.proxad.net is the only
(?) one that's behaving correctly.

Question is - what do you use that you don't have it?

Wrong. Having a look at ftp.proxad.net will show you that RPMS2 in fact
is a link to the contrip RPMS directory. Just like I posted :)

These are link for the install that now handle contrib.

There is however a problem because mirrors put contribs at different place
or level.

I have set the link on hour primary mirror, but may need to be changed given
your specific mirror. Moreover if you mirror tool remirror everything, you'd
better check that links are preserved not to have this happening.

This is definitely not so as of 60 seconds ago.

What mirroring tool did you use? With what parameters?

Did you mirror /devel/Cooker and devel/Contrib to absolutely
different local folders?
