Mike, I got the same 'mem missing' segfault installing on Athlon 900, 512Mb RAM. The problem in my case appears the be that I was using software RAID for / and /usr. I reinstalled only RAIDing /home and it went fine (after failing 3 times in about the same place before). Any use to you ? Check your bios and see if any of the OS/2 memory hole options have gotten turned on. (OS/2 had some weird thing about wanting a hole in memory between 15M and 16M. I have no idea why.) That will cause all sorts of harm. (Not certain why it is even in any bioses nowadays...)
