Where do I get it from? Fam is started by xinetd and portmap.. To ensure it starts correctly do : /etc/init.d/portmap restart /etc/init.d/xinetd restart -- Frederic Crozat MandrakeSoft

Meanwhile I think I've installed most of the cooker RPMs, but it looks like there's still something missing, as I've no text anymore in any windows, on the desktop or in any dialogs. Also the panel gives up after several fails of starting. The .xsession-errors tells me: FAMOpen failed, FAMErrno=0 FAMOpen failed, FAMErrno=0 ... ** (gnome-panel:4710): WARNING **: Unable to monitor XML document. (...) gnome-panel: relocation error: /usr/lib/libgen_util_applet-2.so: undefined symbol: wnck_tasklist_set_icon_loader FAMOpen failed, FAMErrno=0 FAMOpen failed, FAMErrno=0 ... This all a few times... I think my main problem is to get back the fonts/text, as I even cannot see my name when I put in into the login-box of gdm. Any ideas? install libfam, and if it is installed, then make sure that it is started in /etc/rc.d/init.d/fam

Thanx for the quick response install libfam, and if it is installed, then make sure that it is started in /etc/rc.d/init.d/fam Well, it IS installed. fam + libfam0, but there is no /etc/init.d/fam. Where do I get it from? And there's another problem: i just started fam (/usr/bin/fam) and there was the following error -- Cannot register service: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = Connection refused fam[5253]: can't register with portmapper -- Thanx again for your help! The files in the init.d can be controlled through the ksysv program or through the DrakConf boot control. Best regards Kim Schulz
Re: [Cooker] text is gone / panel fails to start
Okay, I had to start portmap by hand as it was also not running. Then fam started, but this has no influence on my problems with gnome. Still there is no text and the panel doesn't start. The only thing left in .xsession-errors is --- gnome-panel: relocation error /usr/lib/libgen_util_applet-2.so: undefined symbol: wnck_tasklist_set_icon_loader --- which appears several times.
