Ok, just reproduced -- thanks VERY MUCH for that, I'm trying to figure out
a way to fix that..

I have the same problem with xmms not working on my system. I can supply the folowwing
info on the problem:

- Using latest cooker
- Logged in as a user
- changed /dev/dsp from crw--- to crw-rw

Now xmms when started from console works.

When starting xmms from menu it fails to play. Everything else works. Sound play is
set to OSS. As soon as i choose play file and choose a mp3 file xmms crashes.

When xmms is started from the menu it is started as 'soundwrapper xmms'. Running it
that way gives the following error when playing a file:

** Warning ** MCOP ObjectManager: can't find implementation for Arts::InterfaceRepro

Segmentation fault

Hope the above helps in finding the problem.

Lets see if anyone else has any input it only happens while running kde not
under Gnome in both it's running the OSS 1.2.3 (libOSS.so) output module
works fine under kde if I write the output to disk but (Disk Writer Plugin
(libdisk_writer.so) )not with the OSS plugin. I'm using the emu10k1 module
but you probably can guess that ;o).

4. for the crash
 a. what exactly did you do (click on that, did that, etc)
 b. output on the console of the crash
 c. try to run through `strace' and output the latest lines before the

I have a soundblaster live xgamer and xmms works just fine over here.
No problems at all.

System: AMD 800mhz Athlong Tbird, GeForce2 GTS32MB AGP, SB Live MP3+

XMMS works fine with me... The output is set to OSS. This is with a
default install of Beta 2 though... I'm still working on downloading the
current cooker. Possibly enable sound server?

Can someone tell me all of the information that I need to give for someone
to trouble shoot whats going on? I'm not all that experienced, I'm just
experienced enough to be a dangerous. My computer is a pentium 400 on a
soyo motherboard, with a sndBlaster Live (kernel module emu10k1 driver
module). Alsa is installed on my system. Xmms crash's when I try playing
audio output, this is the first time I've had trouble never with mandrake
7.1.

You may need to loan him a stopwatch if you want more detailed descriptions. (-:

Is he running ALSA?

Does anyone else here have a Live they can try this on?

I've tried freeamp and it works fine. All sound seems to work with my
setup(I have SndBlaster Live). So I'm assuming that there is something
wrong with xmms. I checked cooker to see if maybe there is newer make of
rpm and I have the same versions that I installed that is on the cooker. I
go to actually play something is when it crash's everything else works fine
menu's are fine can go and change selections just when it trys to output
sound.
