RE: [Cooker-firewall] SNF 7.2 - next release?
Florin, Where can we post suggestions for the next release? I posted in Mandrake Forum but there is so many complaints in there it's hard to seperate complaints from suggestions. Would this be a good place to discuss possible features? It may however be better to use a stock Mandrake (8.x) for this, since the packages will be updated (unless you keep updating by hand the updates from 7.2). I assume SNF2 will be based on either 8.0 or 8.1? That's the main reason for me to ask for the next releae. I do not want to install all by myself and than see that a new release is ready. First I will migrate to the next release (hopfully base on Mandrake 8.x, Kernel 2.4.x), than apply the additional services. But dial-on-demand / line-cutting after a defined time of inactivity and configuring the billing-period for time and volume is essential for me! -- mfg Andre

I doubt SNF2 will be finished before end of this year. Then again, Florin is really eager to do it, and there will certainly be an developers version out before that... cu Denis -- - Dr. Denis Havlik http://MandrakeForum.com Mandrakesoft ||| e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Community (@ @)(private: [EMAIL PROTECTED]) --oOO--(_)--OOo-

We'll try to have something working by the end of the month and the final version at the end of october ... how's that ? Great! I have some questions about the next release, too: The following questions are refered only on the GUI! -- 1. I asked about an option in the GUI (setting TOS-Bits) of the SnF two weeks ago. Comes this option in the next release? 2. Is it planned to set a static IP with DHCP? 2.1 Will I be able to see all computers which are connected to the dhcpd with IP, uptime, traffic and so on? 3. If prelude or snort noticed an attack they can send a message on a specified computer -- can the GUI say hello to a new option? 4. Comes a Manual on CD? I am a student and have less money :( A simple Online-Manual would be great! 5. Will it be possible to set the time-restricions now variable? 6. What about bandwith-throttle? -- Ok, thats all. My questions looks like I am a lazy mouse-clicker, I know. My english isn`t very good, too - I am sorry about that! But the questions are things which makes the SnF more userfriendlier that now. Things which I can configure quickly per GUI I donĀ“t have to edit in the console and my window$-friends are happy, too ;) I use the SnF and I like it very much! I`am looking forward to check out the new SnF MD 8.1 :) sincerely, Schorschi Bauer

Let me be more precise about it: Some funcctionalities will be there, hopefuly, but it will not be a final firewall version. We will not have time to do everything until then: docs, chroot servers, some working servers, etc. sincerely, -- Florin http://www.mandrakesoft.com
