[CnD] Talking pressure cooker
Hi All, I haven't posted in a long time but, I purchased something today that some folks may be interested in. I was watching QVC'c In the Kitchen with David today. They demoed a talking pressure cooker. I've been leary of purchasing one, but I wanted to try this. I know they said they didn't have a lot to go around. I don't know if it's still available but you could check with QVC. Once I receive it, I'll come back and give a review. Take care, Pamela ___ Cookinginthedark mailing list Cookinginthedark@acbradio.org http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark

HI Pamela. This sounds interesting as I have never used a presure cooker as some totally blind people have said they're quite difficult to use and I often wondered what were the benefits of using one. I will definitely look in to it. How lovely yu and Shannon are reunited through the list its lovely getting in touch with old friends and making new ones what a small world. Best wishes. Re: [CnD] In Reply To: Talking pressure cooker
I have a Manttra pressure cooker and it doesn't speak but I have used it a few times, mostly to do a beef brisket or corned beef. It worked very well and although it takes me about 45 minutes to get it to do the pressure thing after it gets started I can do a 3 or 4 pound corned beef in under 2 hours instead of 1 hour per pound the regular boiling way. And it is really tender. Nice to see you here, Sean and Pam! [CnD] Creamy Microwave Pralines (Texas Style)
Creamy Microwave Pralines (Texas Style) Makes a couple of dozen( Depending on size) 1 cup whip cream 1 box dark brown sugar 2 Tablespoons margarine or butter 2 cups pecan pieces (not broken too small) Stir together whip cream and dark brown sugar in very large microwave safe mixing bowl. Zap in microwave on high for 13 minutes. Open microwave about half way through cooking time and give the mixture a stir or two to make sure it is mixed well. When time is up, take bowl out of microwave , add butter and stir until butter is melted. Add nuts, stir for a couple of minutes or so until mixture starts to thicken slightly. Quickly drop by spoonfuls on a sheet of foil. Allow pralines to cool and then put them in a covered container. If mixture is removed from bowl too quickly (too hot and shiny), the pralines will be too thin and may remain sticky. If the first one spreads out too much just put it back in the bowl and stir mixture for a minute or so more. If mixture gets too cool (dull in appearance) before it is spooned out on foil, it may become too firm to make individual pralines, but it can always be broken into chunks and eaten. Less attractive, but still good. Make a couple of batches and you will be able to tell when the mixture is right for spooning. Chocolate lovers can add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to hot mixture along with the butter. The chips will melt completely producing chocolate pralines. __ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 6241 (20110626) __ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com ___ Cookinginthedark mailing list Cookinginthedark@acbradio.org http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark

[CnD] A Quick Intro
Hey all I'm new to the list but wanted to say HI! and note this is my first list of this type so it will be a learning experience to get used to. Just a little about me then on to stuff about cooking as this IS a cooking list. I'm 27 or will be in August and have been blind now for almost a year. I lost the last of my sight last year a few days after my birthday [happy birthday to me =p]. I was half blind before tha t and manage just fine. Now it's a whole new world, even since I had half sight the sight was pretty good. So... stuff like cooking was not so hard, well easier than it is now. Before this becomes a novel I must say THANK YOU to the Cooking in the Dark host for the restoration of a much loved breakfast of fried egg sammich thanks to a microwave. I have wanted one for a while now and just yesterday had one made by myself. Speaking of breakfast I have found pre cooked bacon at Wal Mart for 2.68 for about 16 pieces. A bit pricy but since I have no bacon press or bacon cooker for the microwave it works out great and tastes great too! I hope to toss out little nuggets and gain some in return as I navigate my new sightless world in the kitchen, a place I hope to spend alot of time in as I do enjoy it despite how hard it can be at times, even with sight back then! Thanks all and sorry for the novel! -- ~Sarah ___ Cookinginthedark mailing list Cookinginthedark@acbradio.org http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark

Hi there and welcome to blind cooking. You can always just wrap raw bacon in paper towels and nuke it until done which depends on how done you want it. Re: [CnD] A Quick Intro
Sarah, Just in case you want to cook raw bacon at some time, I do all of mine in the microwave. All I do is place the bacon in between paper towels and put the microwave on sensor cook. I usually change out the paper towels once so that the bacon is not so greecy. In my opion it turns out much better than cooking it on the stove top.If you need to cook a lot of bacon at once just make several layers of paper towels with the bacon in the middle. Hope this helps -Original Message- From: cookinginthedark-boun...@acbradio.org [mailto:cookinginthedark-boun...@acbradio.org] On Behalf Of ~Sarah~ Sent: Sunday, June 26, 2011 8:38 PM To: cookinginthedark@acbradio.org Subject: [CnD] A Quick Intro Hey all I'm new to the list but wanted to say HI! and note this is my first list of this type so it will be a learning experience to get used to.
