[CnD] Deep Fryers

Hi Listers,

Having become relatively decent at other types of cooking, I've decided to
spread my wings and learn to fry, . Since there are about a million
deep fryers on the market, I'd like to know what listers are using. I'd
like to know what types you're using, how you mark controls, etc. I don't
mind spending a little money for a really good, reasonably priced unit. I'm
getting concerned because my grease level is dropping and my joints are
becoming unlubricated, . Any help and advice would be greatly
appreciated.

[CnD] Deep Fryers

2010-04-01 Thread Claudia

We honestly have a deep fryer but have never used it.
I don't know where the instructions are, so we're hesitant on the whole
thing, at this point.
We got it, when we moved in, about 8 years ago, so I'm wondering if it even
works, since it's just been there, for so very long?

I do hope it is okay to offer this here on this list. Some things are

Hi All,

Last night, I made fried chicken, for the first time, and it was very
tasty!

I first breaded the seasoned chicken, by coating it with egg and coating
with seasoned bread crumbs! I then placed 3 chicken breasts in a large
skillet, that I'd coated lightly with vegetable oil, and I cooked each
chicken breast, for about 20 minutes, on each side. The pan was covered,
so

I think this helped retain the moisture in the chicken. It almost tasted
as

if I'd used Shake N Bake on the chicken.
We served this with white rice & corn, to our son, and he absolutely loved
it!
I'm pretty exstatic because we'd never reallr attempted frying chicken
before!
Our son even said that it tasted like "Grammas" chicken, so that was an
even

bigger boost for me because both grammas make excellent chicken.
Just thought I'd share!

Re: [CnD] Deep Fryers

2011-08-12 Thread Lora Leggett
I use the Rival Cool Touch deep fryer. I had to have mine replaced twice
because of a power problem. The second time they replaced it with a
different model but it works the same way. There are no real tactile marks
but the slide control goes downward as the temperature goes higher. The
highest is 375 and I usually use 350. It is just a little ways higher than
all the way down and I just leave it set. I really do not use the timer
that it has, I just leave it in the On position and use other means to time.
There is a Ready light but I just wait five to seven minutes after I plug it
in to warm up the oil.
It is so safe because the basket with the food drops down into the oil and
you close the lid so no splashing. You pull up the handle and drain the oil
and take it out by the handle and I pour the food onto a cookie sheet with
paper towels so as not to get it on the counter or the floor.
Then i fill up the basket with another batch and wait just a few minutes for
the oil to come back up to temperature. I love it because I never fear
getting burned or splashed. There are two lines inside the metal pan where
the oil goes and they are called minimum and maximum and you pour oil to a
depth just in between those lines and check each time you use it because oil
can evaporate.
Unfortunately my deep fryer is on hold right now because my husband has just
come home from his second hospital stay and is currently on a feeding tube
and I am a newly diagnosed diabetic. I will come back to it of course but
too much going on right now so I do look forward to using it again. Make
some good food for me!

Re: [CnD] deep fryers?

2010-09-29 Thread Claudia

Dustin,

I have a presto Dual Daddy Deep Fryer, and it works great!
It's a cast-iron fryer, with a metal divider that you can place in the
middle of the inside of the unit, to fry two things, at the same time. The
oil heats up quickly, and it comes with a ladle-type spoon with holes at the
bottom, to help drain your food, when you're taking it out!

I'm not afraid of it, but I'm very careful. Once I'm through using the
unit, I let it cool on the table or countertop for some time, before
draining the oil into another container. I use a sieve to drain the crumbs
from the oil, before pouring into another container for future use.

My particular deep fryer does not close, when frying, but there are others
that do, and this may be a consideration factor for you.

Re: [CnD] Deep fryers

2016-04-09 Thread Charles Rivard via Cookinginthedark
Ti Fal makes a large deep fryer that has one large round basket. It uses
about 6 quarts of oil. It has a locking lid, the basket is raised and
lowered from the outside, and the fryer stays relatively cool to the touch.
The highest temperature setting is 375 degrees.

I bought a fryer from Wal-Mart that is about the same size, but it has 2
rectangular baskets. The lid does not lock, but this is no problem. My
fryer is a Hamilton Beach, and you should be able to find it by doing a
search on Wal-Mart's site.

Both fryers are safe to use by a blind person. HTH.

Re: [CnD] Deep fryers

2016-04-10 Thread Charis Austin via Cookinginthedark
Hello,

Now that I have used an air fryer I will not get another deep fryer. I think
that the air fryers are a much healthier option since they don't use much if
any oil. When picking an air fryer out you need to make sure you pick one with
buttons.

I have had deep fryers in the past. My husband and I are thinking about buying
another one. Are there suggestions of ones that people have? I wanted something
that is easy to use for a blind person. Also, is there anyone who have used an
air fryer? How does the food taste? Thank you.

I notice that you mentioned the health benefit, but, for me at least, the
flavor and texture are the most important things. How are these factors
when comparing a deep fryer and an air fryer? I do know that my electric
popcorn popper makes far superior popcorn compared to the extremely dry hot
air poppers, and I wonder if the same is true for a hot air fryer compared
to a deep fryer. Also, what would be the price difference between fryers of
the same approximate size? Also, what about temperature control and cooking
times between units? Thanks.

Re: [CnD] Deep fryers

2016-04-10 Thread Charis Austin via Cookinginthedark
Hello,

We have done frozen French Fries, onion rings, egg rolls and pizza rolls. All
have turned out crispy like you would want them. In addition, I have done baked
potatoes, which were not frozen, and they came out crisp like they were done in
the oven. We just put a little oil on the potatoes, poked holes in them, and
let them cook for 40 minutes.

It takes some experimentation in terms of timing. If you are cooking frozen
food, go by the directions on the package.

When we were looking, we were more concerned about controls that we could
operate so we did not do a lot of comparison shopping. We time things with our
iPhones or timer and don't specifically use the one on the machine. We keep the
temperature on high (380) degrees) so there is nothing to adjust.

There is no putting food into hot oil and no having to figure out what to do
with the oil when you are done. It is a matter of choice which one you get.

What brand of popcorn popper do you have? Is it easy for someone visually

I like the concept of less oil. However, one of the things my husband wants to
cook is fried chicken. We have heard that the air fryers don't do floured
batters or other kind of batters.

Hi,

I've done fried chicken. It turned out ok the flower did make a bit of a mess
but it still turned out really good. I would make my batter a bit wetter next
