[Coworking] Watch this today

2010-09-22 Thread Alex Hillman
Do yourself a favor and watch these two videos ASAP:

5 minutes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NugRZGDbPFU

20 minutes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0af00UcTO-c

Steven Johnson explains, quite succinctly and with historic reference, a lot
of the theses we've built Indy Hall upon over the last 3+ years and
generally why environments like coworking spaces and coworking communities
are such powerful engines for true innovation.

The ADD version:

It's not about any one individual "idea" or moment, or even incentivizing
collaboration, but instead about *creating opportunities* for smaller,
half-baked ideas to bump into each other and serendipitously realize that
they are each others' missing pieces.

Re: [Coworking] Question re: cell phones and ringers

2010-09-22 Thread Iris Kavanagh
Alex,

Definitely appreciate the crowdsourcing for the best solution tip. We have a
set of "community norms" we ask people to learn an out of resepct for fellow
members agree to follow - all common sense things we learned in kindergarten.
This feels much better than having a list of arbitrary "rules" that someone is
then in charge of enforcing. The last thing I ever want to be equated with as a
community manager is a traffic cop. UGH!

Best,

iris

2010-09-22 Thread Cadu de Castro Alves
Awesome, Alex! Thanks to share!

This movie reminds me a documentary that I've watched some months ago, in the
History Channel.
That documentary was about the newspaper's history. How, why and where it was
created.
Long time ago, influent people went to cafeterias to talk to each other. In
that time, the news was spread mouth to mouth.
Then, they felt that was necessary to make something better: the first
newspaper was created.
