[Coworking] D.C.: Affinity Lab v. GeekEasy

2012-11-28 Thread Anne Henochowicz
Hello Fellow Coworkers,

I'm a translator and writer in Washington, D.C. working for a non-profit
media group based in Berkeley, CA. I'm the lone East Coast representative,
and I'm longing for a collegial work space. All I need is a place to work
"together alone," so I'm exploring the "virtual" options at a few coworking
spaces in the District.

Both Affinity Lab and GeekEasy have struck my fancy. I've passed by
Affinity Lab before, and hear that they've got a lot of events. Their
virtual membership is $325/mo, while GeekEasy's is $90/mo. I'm willing to
pay for quality, but visibility and price don't necessary signal that. How
do these two spaces stack up?

Thanks for your help!

Best,
Anne

2012-11-28 Thread Judy Schramm
Geek Easy has gone out of business. Affinity Lab is great, but they are the
most expensive. You might look at Canvas. They have a beautiful space in
downtown DC.

There are some other coworking spaces in VA. Uber in Rosslyn is right on
the metro. There's a new space opening in Clarendon, also on the metro.
Connect113 is in Old Town Alexandria.

If you like, give me a call. I'm familiar with most of the spaces in the
DMV.

2012-11-28 Thread Tricia Chirumbole
Hey there,

I can only speak for Affinity Lab, but I can't pass up the opportunity to
say how awesome I think that the crew is - the people who run it, the crowd
they attract, and the broader community that they participate in. They do
hold or host great events, attract great orgs, and foster a sincere
"collegial" vibe.

I used to be virtual there a few years back and keep in touch with a number
of members past and present.

Re: [Coworking] Coworking UK - Collaboration between coworkers & coworking spaces

2012-11-28 Thread Jonathan Markwell
A few of us in the Sussex and Kent area got together a few months ago in
Brighton and we now have around a dozen of us in a UK specific Google
Group: https://groups.google.com/group/coworkinguk

Not a huge amount of traffic on the list but there are a bunch of us who
have been doing this for a while in the UK and we're listening a little
more closely there than we're able to here.

[Coworking] Member termination notice

2012-11-28 Thread Jamie Russo
I did a search on this and couldn't find any thread specific to this -
What are spaces generally requiring for termination notice? My approach
has been that memberships are month to month with 30 days notice for
termination. No one reads their membership agreements carefully so this
has surprised a few people. I had a team of three drop a full time desk
today, a couple of days before they'd be paying for December. My view is
that I want to provide as much flexibility as possible while giving myself
a little window during which I can replace revenue if I lose someone. What
are others doing?

Thanks,
Jamie

Re: [Coworking] Member termination notice

2012-11-28 Thread Tom Brandt
Usually, members will let us know weeks or even months ahead of time when
they will be leaving Workantile. Memberships are month-to-month, and if
someone tells us they are leaving right away, we do not prorate their
membership dues for the unused portion. No one has complained about that.

When I was community manager, I was able to get to know all the members
well enough that when one left it was not a surprise. They would let me
know well in advance as a courtesy to me, or, because I knew what was going
in the personal or professional lives, I had a pretty good idea when
someone was close to leaving. It's a matter of knowing your members.

30d notice for us.
We have everyone initialize that specific clause.
