[Coworking] Architect?

2016-04-01 Thread Daron Jenkins
Wondering at what point do you need to consider bringing one on and how do
you find someone trustworthy (yet affordable!).

Since our space is not a traditional coworking space and has some specific
needs I'm wondering that having one while looking at possible real estate
would be helpful or no?

Thanks!
Daron

[Coworking] Re: hi everyone.

2016-04-01 Thread Stefanie Miller
Hi Alex.

This is great! I will definitely be sharing with our members. So about the
space, Fort Knox Studios is a 160,000 sq ft creative arts ecosystem if you
will. We opened in 2011 and it started out as just a monthly rehearsal
space for musicians. It quickly grew and we added a pro studio space, Icon
Pro Studios, which is more for national artists touring. As the studio
continued to grow, we wanted to add a space that included the business side
of the creative arts. That is how 2112 was born. It is about 20,000 sq ft
and we have shared work space, reserved work space and private offices. We
have breakout rooms for meetings and a conference room along with an event
space. We started off slow but this year has brought us a lot of members.
We have members in music tech, lawyers, marketing folks, media companies,
app developers and members in the film world. Our members are all across
the board in the creative arts and it's really great to see this all come
to fruition. We are expanding this summer to add more offices! Our mentors
have been incredible as well. I like to refer to 2112 as a relationship
station. :)

Of course we all grow as 2112 grows and it is so fantastic to know that
there is a coworking community. The whole concept and 2112 in general has
become such a large part of our lives that it's so nice to share with
others and hear about other spaces. I can't thank you enough for this forum
and all the wonderful advice. I would love to come check out Indy Hall. I
am there quite often for baseball games. :)

If you are ever in Chicago, please stop by! It would be great to meet you.

Thanks again!

[Coworking] Re: Printing

2016-04-01 Thread Tom Lewis
Printing is our biggest nemesis. We have an full on freestanding office
photocopier/printer which we lease, and it's very popular as it does A3,
sheet fed scanning etc etc. We pass through the cost of printing with no
markup, as our ethic is that people pay their membership fee and that's
where we make our money (not a markup on phone calls/printing/snacks etc)

However, we have an ongoing issue with our printer and the newest Mac OS El
Capitain (and specifically the account track software which is used to keep
track of who is printing how much). The two just don't play nice, and
we've got a lot of frustrated members, many of whom now print through our
reception PC, which isn't ideal. We've tried to resolve it many times, but
have got to the point where we either need to buy another printer to go
alongside the main one, or remove the account track system. We're
considering the latter- for a space like ours with £20k+ revenue a month, a
£100 non markedup spend on printing is not worth upsetting any members.
