[Coworking] Re: New Press for Coworking in Bay Area
No ill will taken. I looked into Two Rooms although was not able to connect with founders. I have multiple ideas on why they may have folded. Among them: - 2 rooms: two actual rooms does not provide enough space for child and great worker space. Our worker space consists of multiple sizes of rooms and different seating options; we also have lounge and conference area; also kid area consist of 4 rooms - Pricing: not getting enough people at higher price to cover costs -Marketing concept: those unfamiliar to the coworking world sometimes have a difficult time applying it to themselves; add childcare element and its a whole new issue -Timing: they may just have been ahead of their time. Who knows? And we aren't full or profitable yet, so cross your fingers that we figured it out a little better. -Felicity Website: www.cubesandcrayons.com Photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/ On Apr 8, 10:55 am, Julie [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Congrats! I wish I had contacts to refer you to on that one, but I don't. Keep on! Hmmm, it looks like the anonymous commenters have somewhat sidetracked the focus, mocking the names of the kids and attacking the whole concept, as well as missing the point. For example: I am sure the kids wont miss a thing about their childhood being spent at mommy's and daddy's office ... advertisements for services available to the rich and uber-rich I don't think one can do a job properly and take care of a child-something will suffer I don't think children belong in the workplace I am sick and tired of these arrogant parents thinking that employers must cater to their child care needs Beyond commenting, we can also use the power of the recommend button to bump up the comments most relevant and informed, and the report abuse link when necessary (where merited, I don't see any at the moment that have crossed the line). Remember, our comments don't need to convince the folks who made the comments above, but can help others see that we are real people co-creating new solutions to meet the needs of our real lives. Congratulations, Felicity co. All, don't pass up opportunities like this to add comments on the paper's website that will help the online readers go beyond what's in the story and make personal connections, more likely to get involved in the movement. Personal stories are great, anecdotes of how coworking has changed your life (or at least your work), the challenges of life-work integration (with or without kids), why your coworking space doesn't include childcare or other take it for granted services that W-2 corporate salaried folks rely on and need to be ready to take care of on their own as they prepare to make the leap from Working for the Man to blissful independence/independents. For best results, avoid touting your own space... even if it is a groovy not-for-profit cooperative, it can come across as commercial/spammy. No links. Longer than a tweet, shorter than a mailing list message. Don't rely on paragraph breaks for formatting in SF Chron comments, they all go away upon posting. One of the phenomenons the Cubes Crayons site references is onramping, helping parents re-enter the workforce; it seems to me that we have a role to play in building offramps, helping people escape and realize they can take control of their career, their work, their future. The more we can make it clear that coworking has some easy managed options, the more folks I think we'll find crossing over. You can also think of it as our job to hang out on streetcorners, dispensing red pills. [Coworking] Re: New Press for Coworking in Bay Area
Hi All, Thanks for the support. Ilana at the Chronicle did a great article and I love that she included Sandbox Suites, Hatbox, and Citizen Space as other Bay Area coworking spaces. Each one has its own personality and appeals to different co-workers, I think. I will definitely post a comment. And on a side note on the onramping bit, I have worked a bit with YourOnRamp.com and the people doing this onramping are really seeking flexibility. They have taken time off their careers for various reasons and want to create their own job style. They are definitely potential co-workers as well as those looking to offramp. The offrampers need to know coworking spaces exist so they can create the work environment they need/want. Absolutely important for all of us to find ways to reach out to both of these groups and educate them on the coworking communities around the world. -Felicity www.cubesandcrayons.com On Apr 6, 4:55 am, Raines Cohen [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Congratulations, Felicity co.
