Thanks so much, I've linked up with a local business owner and visionary
who is well connected. He loves the idea and had offered to host a meet up
in his business lounge for this purpose.

I'm competing ONLY with 1 coffee shop and the kitchen table, I just have
to reach the masses.

I appreciate the guidance,

RE: [Coworking] Re: Hello!

2018-09-13 Thread Wendy
I opened the first co-working space in Denison, Texas, January 18, of this
year. Very few people had even heard of the concept before. We are about hour
north of Dallas, Texas, so I was a little surprised by how few people were
familiar with co-working.

I started with prayer, lots and lots of prayer! Then I kept talking and
explaining to anyone who would listen. Come up with a good way to explain what
a co-working space is…”A co-working space is the antidote to having to work
from a noisy café/coffee shop.” I also signed up with the Small Business
Development Center of Texas at our local community college. I was matched with
a local business woman who helped me with my business plan, thinking out loud
process, research on what office rent was going for in my area and so many
other things. It was helpful having someone to be accountable to.

I found out that I spent too much money on my website. If I had kept asking
around I would have made a better decision. Lesson Learned.

I am on Main Street so I participate in all the Main Street Activities wither
or not they have a direct impact on my business. Mostly they do not because I
am not retail, but it is great exposure. Just last week I had a member join
who had come by during a festival in March that I was helping with and had a
quick tour.

Two local chambers of commerce host a weekly pop up. The members meet at 8am
at a local hotel with coffee and pastry, you put $1 & your business card in the
bowl and when your card is drawn you get 30 sec to stand up and talk about your
business. If your chamber doesn’t have something like that it would be a good
program to host at your co-working space.

Thank you !!! This is great information. I've partnered with my local
chamber and small business development center for the same help. I'm
finalizing my business plan but I'm stuck on private offices and open space
ratio. This is pretty cutting edge for our area so I have a ton of
interest but commitment is what pays the bills.

Thanks so much for the feedback,

Re: [Coworking] Re: Hello, I am new to the group

2010-08-11 Thread Chrystal
Bay City is a bit far, but I love the idea of coworking. I work from home at
the moment and I have a list of distractions. Many people do not understand
the concept of working from home and they think "oh he/she is home, they
must not be busy" and people call all day wanting this or that. I have
gotten in the habit of turning off the phone.

But, on days like today when my bathroom is getting remodeled it would be
great to have an "office" to run to when my office is being used as a hang
out for those working on my bathroom (i.e. boyfriend and my mom). At the
moment he works at Best Buy with a different schedule every week. Making it
hard for me to have a consistent chunk of time to get my own work done. He
will sit in the office with me on his pc, but he likes to talk. About things
non work related of course and it makes it hard for me to focus. I should
work a normal 8 hour work day but most days I end up putting in 10-11 to
make up for the talking.

I also have a hard time with saving household chores until work is over.
Seems like my lunch time turns in to cleaning time. My house also consists
of two dogs that have to go outside for potty breaks every so often, as well
as attention!

I sometimes feel a bit isolated. My co-workers are all writers who work
from home and we chat through yahoo or online forums. It would be nice to
have some f2f contact once in a while.

Not too many places close by offer free Wi-Fi so most days I have no choice
to stay at home. I can only sit at the local coffee shops for so long.

I saw a article about coworking in the Freelancers Union email. There was a
link to Bay City, and there you were. I love the idea of it. So, I thought I
would join and say hello. Meet some others like me. And you never know, the
group could really grow and more could form closer in my direction!

Thank you for letting my join. I actually am going to try to come out for
the next meeting. It only takes me about 30min or so to get to Bay City, so
it might be nice to get out and check it out. And even if I can't make it to
Bay City all the time, it is nice to meet others in Michigan who freelance
and work from home.

Nice to meet you!
Chrystal

Hi Mathew,

Congratulations on your entry to shared economy. I would also consider
reaching out to instructors that offer classes via Groupon, livingSocial
and etc, that may need larger venues to host their evening or weekend
classes.

A good place to start for instructor talent seeking to become
entrepreneurial is local university, Meetups and Craigslist

Re: [Coworking] Re: Hello... How Can I Arrange My Hot Desks so as not to have Excess Members at the same time ?

2013-01-05 Thread Alex Hillman
I'd pay close attention to actual utilization and keep an eye out for your more
popular memberships.

We watch our memberships flux throughout the year, and sometimes start a
waiting list on certain ones when utilization approaches full and only start
signing up new members when we know that we won't risk collisions. Reservations
can help if you're really worried about it, but you may be surprised by the
results of actual data vs. predictions of popularity and usage. :)
