[css-d] div out of line in firefox

2006-08-02 Thread Virtuallee
Hi

This page is fine in IE, but is out of line in Firefox. All content from
the green box with 'THE COLOUR CONSULTANT' down has shifted too far to
the left. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks!

[css-d] part of background image disappearing in IE - when scrolling down

2005-11-30 Thread Virtuallee
Hi

I can't figure out why this is happening. The top half of vertical logo

It's fine in Firefox. Is this just an IE bug or can anyone see why this
is happening?

Re: [css-d] part of background image disappearing in IE - whenscrolling down

2005-11-30 Thread Virtuallee
Hi Ian

If you have IE6, just scroll down the 'about' page (for example) right
to the bottom. Then scroll back up and you'll see that the top half of
the right hand logo has disappeared. I then have to refresh the browser
to get the whole logo to show again.

The letters 'ultancy' (from 'Construction Group Consultancy') for me in
IE6 just disappear when scrolling down.

[css-d] position text on top of image

2005-12-02 Thread Virtuallee
Hi

I'm wanting to position the text 'Click here to register or login', on/
top/ of the main image. I've set the image within the html code and not
within the css. It took me ages to get the positioning right etc so
don't want to make image a bg image within the css. I'm sure there is a
way of superimposing the text /over /the image. I've tried position:
absolute, but it pushes the image down.

http://www.virtuallee.co.uk/Monte/login.php

[the main text on top of the image will always be part of the image]

Having a brain dead day...I'm sure this is easy, but can't get my head
around it right now :(
Thanks!

Hi

Please could someone on a mac (IE and Safari) send me a screenshot or

[css-d] site check -garden design site

2006-02-10 Thread Virtuallee
Hi

Is someone able to check this site for me? Apparently the body text is
unclear/fuzzy on a MAC safari 1.3. I agree that the text could maybe be
enlarged, but I don't want to do anything until I've had confirmation
from others that it is 'fuzzy'. For me it's crystal clear.

If it is fuzzy, can someone recommend what can be done about it (other
than change white text on black background - this is what client wants)?
There's only one way to set the text and how it displays is up to the
user's browser. Not so?

If it's 'fuzzy', could someone maybe send me a screenshot?

Much appreciated.

These are matters of personal opinion.
I immediately exit any *death site.* (black)
But, anyway:
1/ It is not fuzzy.
2/ But then it not particularly easy to read either.
3/ Changing body font-size from 90% to 100% makes it easier to read
(without zoom at 1280).
4/ Disabling color (black text on white) and changing body font-size
from 90% to 100% makes it *much* easier to read (without zoom at 1280).
5/ The "top" link bobbing along as I scroll down drove me nuts.
This will correct the page shift:

~davidLaakso

Thanks for replying and checking the site for me, David. Appreciate it :)
I take your point on the 'black of death' and the [top] link. Can't do
anything about the black but I have removed the [top] link.
I've also added this to force the scrollbars |html { height: 100%;
margin-bottom: 1px; } and increased the body text size.

Hopefully much better!

Cheers

Hi Christian

I have changed it very slightly to #0c0c0c. Very subtle difference, but

[css-d] mozilla not rendering width like IE and Opera

2005-05-03 Thread Virtuallee
Hi
I hope someone can help. It's late now & I'm not thinking clearly anymore.
I'm trying to get the width of my header (set to orange) and nav to be
the same in Mozilla, IE and Opera. At the moment, IE and Opera are
rendering the header and nav correctly (ie. there is a 34px margin at
left and right of the site). In Mozilla, the header and nav extend too
far to the right.

Also, my background images for the shading at left and right are not
repeating vertically although they are set to do so. Not sure what's
going on there.

Also, there seems to be some padding somewhere as the logo is further
inset to the right in IE.

Re: [css-d] mozilla not rendering width like IE and Opera]

2005-05-04 Thread Virtuallee
Thanks for getting back, Ingo. Really appreciate all your helpful
comments. I am working through your comments.

The reason I placed the site within a table with 3 columns is because I'm wanting the site to have shading at left and right (34px width for
each). Easy to do if the site is a fixed width (just create a background image with shading), but not so easy if the site is expandable as the
shading should obviously expand with the site but stick to the outer edges. I thought that I could set the left hand shading in the first
and then put the rest of the site in a middle and then the right hand side shading in another . However as you said it may be
the absolute positioning that's making it difficult.

Did you have a glance with Opera8 too? Here, the td "contains" the #nav.
In Mozilla, the header and nav extend too far to the right.

 ...
   ...
   ...

#header { position: absolute; left: 34px; top: 0; right: 34px; width:
100%; ...} /* btw. this is over-constrained */

#nav { ... position: absolute; left: 0pt; top: 118px; right: 0pt; ...
height: 25px; margin-left: 34px; margin-right: 34px; width: 100%; }

I think Moz is right by calculating a.p. header's width:100% with
respect to the containing block, and the c.b. is not the td:
CSS2.1 10.1.4 "If the element has 'position: absolute', the containing
block is established by the nearest ancestor with a 'position' of
'absolute', 'relative' or 'fixed'"

IE6, Opera7.54 and (sigh) Opera8 are wrong. They stagnate at CSS1:
they calculate the offset (top:0, left:34px) with respect to the c.b.
(body), but width:100% with respect to the parent (td.column-center)
http://www.satzansatz.de/cssd/tmp/apboxpercentagewidth.html

As mentioned before, in Op8, the td "contains" the a.p. nav. I would
file this as a bug or regression from 7.54, but I'm not sure, is this
a Acid2 line? Can anyone explain this to me? What is Safari showing?

Also, my background images for the shading at left and right are not
repeating vertically although they are set to do so. Not sure what's
going on there.

.shadow-left { margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt; background: rgb(255, 255,
255) url('shadow_left.jpg') repeat-y; width: 34px; height: auto;}

I do not understand how this should ever work: a bg-img on a
(with a heigth="32px")?

Also, there seems to be some padding somewhere as the logo is further
inset to the right in IE.
#header p.logo { margin: 60px 0pt 0pt 30px; float: left; ...
/*ic:*/display:inline;}
http://positioniseverything.net/explorer/doubled-margin.html

http://www.virtuallee.co.uk/KFS/index_kfs.htm

IMHO, I would question the layout by a.p. elements within a table in
this early stage, looks like the differences in the browsers are too
big. And the clocks are showing the wrong time.

Ingo

Re: [css-d] General Question On Floats

2005-05-09 Thread Virtuallee

Hi,
I'm having various problems with floats, and wondered if anyone could
point me to some good resources to read up on them. Specifically, i've
tried a few times to float two elements to give me two "columns" but
the way Firefox and IE6 seem to judge widths, in percentage terms,
always seems completely different. As a result, I struggle to get this
two column effect without gaps

Hi Lee
This is the best tutorial ever.

Within half an hour you will have your basic framework set up ...really,
really easy to follow and will eliminate cross-browser problems.

[css-d] main/global style sheet and other stylesheets

2005-05-11 Thread Virtuallee
Hi
There must be a better way of doing this. I have a main image on every
page of my site. It has to be a background image as it is extra wide and
therefore 'expands' in large resolutions.

The site has 6 main pages with 'sub pages'. Each of the 6 main pages
needs to have a different main image. So far, I have had to create 4
different stylesheets, each calling the relevant image. I have seen
global stylesheets but not sure how they work. Is it possible to have
all the main styles, except the one calling the bg main image, in a
global style sheet? I could then have just the bg image in the separate
stylesheets. Is there a better way of doing this..I hate to have to
create 6 different stylesheets.

Hope I've explained this clearly.
Here's a link to the site (only the first 4 main links work at the mo)
http://www.virtuallee.co.uk/Kessler_testing/index.php
By the way, if the site doesn't display properly, please let me know
what browser/res etc you are using and what's happening.

Set an id on your body tag.

Then set your CSS
body#different-image
{
background-image: ...
}
How stupid of me.. How could I not think of that? That's precisely what
CSS is for. It's been a l-o-n-g day!

Is there anyone that could do a site check on a mac IE for me?
Apparently the site is 'not working' in mac IE. I haven't heard back
from the client as to what exactly is 'not working' and would like to
work on the problem as soon as possible.

Thanks for your help!

2005-07-29 Thread Virtuallee

Hi

Thanks everyone for your feedback as well as advice on mac IE. Quite a
debate on the subject! GREAT to hear it (miracle of miracles) actually
looks okay in Mac IE (hadn't tested it yet). Thanks, Michael for your
advice below on how to fix the positioning. I'm away for the night but
will give it a go tomorrow and hopefully all sorted...

Cheers

Actually, a lot of this probably has to do with your HTML. The UL's
you are styling have title="Navigation" or title="NavigationTop". It
looks like IE is improperly translating this into class="Navigation"
and class="NavigationTop" and therefore implementing the rules that
are removing your margins. Firefox is properly ignoring the titles,
and giving you the advantage of its default margins and padding. Try
switching "title" with "class" on your UL's, then start working on it
again.

[css-d] background not showing and right margin not correct in Firefox

2005-09-03 Thread Virtuallee

Hi

I'm having problems figuring out why the left hand side background
towards the bottom of this page is not showing (I get a white background
to the left and below the green footer). I've deleted the div's one at a
time and still can't ascertain where the problem lies.

Also, in Firefox, the right hand column with the 2 boxes is moving out
to the right. In IE, it's fine.

Does anyone know how to fix these 2 problems?

Thanks!

[css-d] big gaps between paragraphs when window is minimised

2005-09-09 Thread Virtuallee

Hi

My client is unhappy about big gaps appearing between paragraphs when
the window is minimised (mostly happens in IE). I've minimised the
window a couple of times and each time a gap rectifies itself but then
another gaps appears again with a different paragraph. It especially
happens on the 'Who are you' page and 'Process' pages. But then
again...I guess it could happen anywhere. How can I get it so that text
remains towards the top of the page?

Also, my client is minimising the window and then dragging window from
right to left and the text is scrunching and overlapping and, of course,
big gaps are appearing.

[css-d] body content not stretching to footer

2005-10-16 Thread Virtuallee

Hi

I'm having a problem with some of my pages, like this one
http://www.fivepointcapital.co.uk/test_site/casestudies.php where the
body content (background shadow on either side) is not stretching down
to meet the footer in IE and Mozilla Firefox.

Have tried everything..(well). Can anyone see where I'm going wrong? I
tried min-height, but that doesn't work.

Also, it would be great if someone could do a test print page for me.
This is the first time I've done a stylesheet for print. If I print the
home page http://www.fivepointcapital.co.uk/test_site/index.php from
Mozilla, it prints out a white square over some of the text. Printing
from IE seems fine.

Thanks, much appreciated!

[css-d] recommend a css layout 2 columns fixed, center column fluid

2005-11-09 Thread Virtuallee
Hi

Can anyone recommend a good free css layout for this site I've designed?
http://www.virtuallee.co.uk/Azule/FinalFinal/Azule_homepage_chosen_revised.jpg

It needs to have:
header
fixed left and right column
fluid center column
footer

I also need to be able to add shading at left and right..not too bothered about
top shading.

I have found a free css template here
http://leftjustified.net/site-in-an-hour/site/, but am worried that when I
start setting the left and right column as fixed (currently fluid) I'm going to
get myself into trouble.

Thanks, appreciate this!

[css-d] test page check - especially mac

2005-11-09 Thread Virtuallee
Hi

Just wondering if someone could do a site check for me?

http://www.virtuallee.co.uk/Azule/index_test.html

It's displaying fine in IE, but the middle blue area is slightly too
high in Firefox. Can't seem to figure this out!
Also, I don't have a mac so would someone with a mac let me know how
good/bad :( it is...and what browser/version etc you have?

(thanks for your suggestions for fixed/fluid layouts, Thierry and
Gunlaug. The layout I was using started to work out thank goodness)

Thanks
Lee

Re: [css-d] test page check - especially mac

2005-11-10 Thread Virtuallee
http://www.virtuallee.co.uk/Azule/index_test.html

I'm still battling to figure out why the middle blue area (with "Experts
in Project Finance" text) is about 3px higher in Safari, Firefox (IE is
fine). I had to set that blue area as a negative (margin-top: -8px;) so
I'm definitely doing something wrong there. Can someone spot how I can
fix this?

Thanks very much to those of you who gave me feedback on the site,
especially those screen shots, DL. Very helpful - will work on contrast.

Thanks!
Lee

[css-d] help from someone with mac - background not completely filled

2005-11-17 Thread Virtuallee
Hi

Apparently on a mac on this page there is a problem with the gold table
not completely extending down to the bottom(at right). (I didn't build
this site by the way!)
http://www.sunrise-care.co.uk/locations/kent.html

My client doesn't know how to do a print screen so I can't see what's
going on to fix it. Could someone on a mac maybe send me a screenshot?
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Thanks!

[css-d] Is this possible? Background image fill the screen

2005-11-22 Thread Virtuallee
Hi

Could someone tell me if they think this is actually possible?
http://www.virtuallee.co.uk/client_area/screenshot.gif

The problem lies with the main picture. Obviously it cannot expand to
fill the screen. I could create a very wide main image (3000px) and set
it as a background, but the island itself actually needs to be centred
within the screen.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

Much appreciated!

[css-d] site check - montenegro

2005-11-23 Thread Virtuallee
Hi

Would someone mind doing a site check for me (especially mac since I
don't have)? None of the links work. I've just done the test page for
the home page which is designed for an 800x600 resolution.

b.t.w although it may not look like it, there is supposed to be a white
bg on either side of the main image!

Thanks!
