Is James Bamford Real?
by DCDave
Carol Valentine's deduction that James Bamford is a false secret-government critic, I'm afraid, rings all too true. See http://www.public-action.com/911/northwds.html.
Let me relate my brief experience with the man. A few years ago the Fund for Constitutional Government organized a panel discussion in a large room of the Capitol Building of a book whose late author they had partially funded. The book was "Secrets, the CIA's War at Home," by the deceased Angus MacKenzie and David Weir, who finished it up for him. On the panel were Bob Woodward of Watergate fame; Scott Armstrong, his co-author of "The Brethren" and founder of The National Security Archive; Tim Weiner, who writes on spook matters for The New York Times, and Bill Clinton's first National Security Adviser, Anthony Lake. I would estimate that 100 or so people were in attendance, virtually all of whom were spooks and/or "journalists." I had been given a heads-up about the program by its organizer and my friend at the Fund, Ernest Fitzgerald. (The days when regular citizens like me can just show up at a gathering in the Capitol Building, alas, appear to be long gone.) I was told later that when they opened the floor for questions, the first person recognized was the stooge standing next to me in the back of the room. I conveniently thought they were recognizing me and beat the stooge to the punch with my question. I asked Woodward why his Washington Post had never written anything about the unsolved murder of the young female security guard at the super secret National Reconnaissance Office complex shortly before the purpose of the new buildings was revealed. I'm sure the panel was made uncomfortable by the question, and Woodward looked more pained than usual. He pleaded ignorance and asked me to fill him in after the meeting. I did so, giving him by mail later the clipping that is excerpted as the "Tina Ricca Story" at http://www.thepacc.org/Tina.html .
I asked Woodward to alert me when The Post did its own story, but I'm still waiting. Interestingly, of the large number of writers and journalists present, the only one to approach me afterward and ask for more details was James Bamford. To my knowledge, he never wrote anything about the murder and apparent cover-up either. Now that I see what kind of person Bamford likely is, I think it's a very good thing for me that the only information I had about the Ricca case was already out in the public arena. It's pretty clear to me now that the role of these "investigative reporters" is not that of a watchdog on government corruption but that of a bird dog on the citizenry, pointing out to the corrupt authorities the ones they might have a problem with. After all, suppose I had some private information that pointed to, say, the CIA as the culprits. Who would I go to, the FBI, the local cops? Valentine speculates that convicted FBI agent Robert Hanssen might have gone to rotten FBI higher-ups with advance warning of 9-11. Maybe it was Bamford he went to, and that was his big mistake. The odd cozy relationship they had reminds me of the cozy relationship between the Washington Post's CIA-beat reporter, Walter Pincus, and the late Vincent Foster. Pincus' revelations about Foster, as I point out in part 1 of my "America's Dreyfus Affair, the Case of the Death of Vincent Foster," represented "the first instance of anyone publicly saying that he noticed any behavior in Foster that one might describe as, at most, agitated." As such, it played a very large role in planting in the public mind the notion that Foster had been "depressed" enough to commit suicide. These are the kinds of friends our journalists make these days.

October 24, 2003

Ennes joined the Liberty in May of 1967, as an Electronics Material Officer. Serving on a "spook ship", as the Liberty was known to Navy wives, was supposed to be a sure path to career enhancement. The Liberty's normal routine was to ply the African coast, tuning in its eavesdropping equipment on the electronic traffic in the region.

The Liberty had barely reached Africa when it received a flash message from the Joint Chiefs of Staff to sail from the Ivory Coast to the Mediterranean, where it was to re-deploy off the coast of the Sinai to monitor the Israeli attack on Egypt and the allied Arab nations.

As the war intensified, the Liberty sent a request to the fleet headquarters requesting an escort. It was denied by Admiral William Martin. The Liberty moved alone to a position in international waters about 13 miles from the shore at El Arish, then under furious siege by the IDF.

On June 6, the Joint Chiefs sent Admiral McCain, father of the senator from Arizona, an urgent message instructing him to move the Liberty out of the war zone to a position at least 100 miles off the Gaza Coast. McCain never forwarded the message to the ship.

A little after seven in the morning on June 8, Ennes entered the bridge of the Liberty to take the morning watch. Ennes was told that an hour earlier a "flying boxcar" (later identified as a twin-engine Nord 2501 Noratlas) had flown over the ship at a low level.

Ennes says he noticed that the ship's American flag had become stained with soot and ordered a new flag run up the mast. The morning was clear and calm, with a light breeze.

At 9 am, Ennes spotted another reconnaissance plane, which circled the Liberty. An hour later two Israeli fighter jets buzzed the ship. Over the next four hours, Israeli planes flew over the Liberty five more times.

When the first fighter jet struck, a little before two in the afternoon, Ennes was scanning the skies from the starboard side of the bridge, binoculars in his hands. A rocket hit the ship just below where Ennes was standing, the fragments shredded the men closest to him.

After the explosion, Ennes noticed that he was the only man left standing. But he also had been hit by more than 20 shards of shrapnel and the force of the blast had shattered his left leg. As he crawled into the pilothouse, a second fighter jet streaked above them and unleashed its payload on the hobbled Liberty.

At that point, Ennes says the crew of the Liberty had no idea who was attacking them or why. For a few moments, they suspected it might be the Soviets, after an officer mistakenly identified the fighters as MIG-15s. They knew that the Egyptian air force already had been decimated by the Israelis. The idea that the Israelis might be attacking them didn't occur to them until one of the crew spotted a Star of David on the wing of one of the French-built Mystere jets.

Ennes was finally taken below deck to a makeshift dressing station, with other wounded men. It was hardly a safe harbor. As Ennes worried that his fractured leg might slice through his femoral artery leaving him to bleed to death, the Liberty was pummeled by rockets, machine-gun fire and an Italian-made torpedo packed with 1,000-pounds of explosive.

After the attack ended, Ennes was approached by his friend Pat O'Malley, a junior officer, who had just sent a list of killed and wounded to the Bureau of Naval Personnel. He got an immediate message back. "They said, 'Wounded in what action? Killed in what action?'," O'Malley told Ennes. "They said it wasn't an 'action,' it was an accident. I'd like for them to come out here and see the difference between an action and an accident. Stupid bastards."

The Pentagon lied to the public about the attack on the Liberty from the very beginning. In a decision personally approved by the loathsome McNamara, the Pentagon denied to the press that the Liberty was an intelligence ship, referring to it instead as a Technical Research ship, as if it were little more than a military version of Jacques Cousteau's Calypso.

The military press corps on the USS America, where most of the wounded sailors had been taken, were placed under extreme restrictions. All of the stories filed from the carrier were first routed through the Pentagon for security clearance, objectionable material was removed with barely a bleat of protest from the reporters or their publications.

Predictably, Israel's first response was to blame the victim, a tactic that has served them so well in the Palestinian situation. First, the IDF a

Did Israeli General Moshe Dayan Order the Attack on the USS Liberty? by William Hughes (Friday 09 January 2004) "A. Jay Cristol has acknowledged that the Israelis had properly identified the USS Liberty on the morning of the attack, June 8, 1967, but he alleges that "an error cycle" kicked in leading to its marking on the plotting table in Tel Aviv to be moved. What hogwash! Who moved it? Could it have been that one-eyed adulterer of an Israeli general, Moshe Dayan?" Almost four decades after Israel's premeditated attack on the USS Liberty, on June 8, 1967, an agency of the federal government is going to give the controversy some air time. The State Department is sponsoring a conference entitled, " The United States, the Middle East, and the 1967 Arab-Israeli War." It will be held on Jan. 12-13, 2004, in Washington, DC. Incredibly, A. Jay Cristol, the leading protagonist for Zionist Israel's version of what happened on that fateful day will be one of the affair's prime presenters on the 12th. Because of the context of the "War, Intelligence & the USS Liberty" segment of the designed program, he will be permitted to put on the record, without the benefit of any cross examination, his prejudiced views. Fortunately, the distinguished author, and supporter of the Liberty cause, James Bamford, will also be on the two hour agenda to add some needed balance. It is wrong for Cristol to get equal billing with Bamford. According to Cristol's press release, he intends to hype the supposed relevance of the recorded conversation of "two helicopter pilots" of the Israelis, that has "been kept secret for 37 years." He claims the "recordings proved that Israel had mistaken the USS Liberty for an Egyptian ship." They will do nothing of the kind. The attack was deliberate and no after-the-fact dissembling by Cristol, the author of the hearsay-dominated book, "The Liberty Incident," will alter that inescapable fact. The Liberty was one of the most sophisticated electronic intelligence ships in the world at the time it was murderously attacked. It was stationed in international waters, 13 miles off the Sinai Peninsula in the eastern Mediterranean, proudly flying the American flag. The Arab-Israeli War, which Tel Aviv had started, was shutting down. At 10: 55 AM, on June 8th, the Israelis had correctly identified the Liberty (AGTR-5), as an American vessel. By 2 PM, however, on that same day, it was trying to sink it, and, without any mercy and in violation of international law, kill every living soul on board (See, Bamford's book, "Body of Secrets," pp. 185-239). Cristol has acknowledged that the Israelis had properly identified the Liberty on the morning of the attack, but he alleges that "an error cycle" kicked in leading to its marking on the plotting table in Tel Aviv to be moved. What hogwash! Who moved it? Could it have been that one-eyed adulterer of a general, Moshe Dayan? As for the rusting Egyptian vessel, the El Quseir, it was a 1920s-vintage horse calvary transport. It was actually docked on June 8th, in Alexandria, and being readied for scrapping. It also was only one-quarter of the tonnage of the Liberty and about half her size. In addition, the Liberty was flying a 5' by 8' American flag, and had a huge satellite dish, 16 ft. high, on her topside, along with large microwave dish and video capturing antennas and other highly visible communication-related equipment The notion that the all-too-clever Israelis, who had access to "Jane's Fighting Ships" mistakenly took the Liberty for the El Quseir, is ludicrous. Talk about a kick in the face! Why is Cristol, an Israeli sympathizer, being given such a prominent place, at the scheduled conference to spout out his pro-Zionist spiel, as though it is a favored opinion, substantiated and corroborated by American eyewitnesses to the event? Thirty four Americans died on the Liberty and 172 others were seriously wounded. The Israelis attacked the ship for over an hour with unmarked jet planes, using missiles, napalm, rockets, and torpedo boats, too. The Zionist thugs even machined gunned its life rafts (James M. Ennes, Jr., "Assault on the Liberty.") The Israelis also jammed the Liberty's emergency frequencies, which were "peculiar to the US Navy" (Naval History, "Friendly Fire," June, 2003, David C. Walsh). Cristol is expected to state at the conference that the Israelis felt compelled to attack the vessel because they suspected it had been lobbing artillery shells 13-plus miles onto the Sinai shore. Satanic ritual blamed for death of Italian teens 6/8/04 Rome "An Italian magistrate warned against the growing lure of Antichrist cults in Catholic Italy on Monday after the discovery of the bodies of two teenagers killed in a satanic sacrifice. Police announced at the weekend they had uncovered the bodies of 19-year-old Chiara Marino and 16-year-old Fabio Tollis, last seen in January 1998 leaving a pizzeria with other members of their heavy metal rock band "Beasts of Satan"Italian media said witness statements showed Marino and Tollis died during a cocaine-fuelled ritual where Marino, a petite brunette, was killed under a full moon by knife plunged into her heartThe deaths have horrified Catholic Italy, home of Vatican City, with pages of newspapers given over to descriptions of the black candles and goats' skulls decorating Marino's bedroom and witness statements of sexual violence. What has fuelled the fear are suggestions the double sacrifice near the town of Busto Arsisio may not be isolated. "Four people have been arrested for the murder of the two teenagers, but the investigations are ongoing. We are looking at other levels of involvement," Pizzi said. One of those arrested in the double murder is already in prison for the murder of a former girlfriend. As many as 5000 people are thought to be members of satanic cults in Italy with 17- to 25-year-olds making up three quarters of them, officials say. "The phenomenon always existed in Catholic countries where the figure of Satan is prominent in teachings as the alter-ego of Christ," La Sapienza University professor Maria Matioti saidShe said satanic cults tended to be found in northern Italy, where traditional family communities had been split up due to migration to find work, leaving some people demoralised and isolated. "In the south, people are more open," she said. Pizzi said investigators were looking into the possibility the "Beasts of Satan" band members were instructed by Satanists in their late 20s or early 30s. He said police were also reviewing two suspicious suicides in the area." http://www.nzherald.co.nz/latestnewsstory.cfm?storyID=3571233&thesection=news&thesubsection=world

Pentagon Report Set Framework For Use of Torture

Security or Legal Factors Could Trump Restrictions,
Memo to Rumsfeld Argued

By JESS BRAVIN Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET
JOURNAL  Wall Street Journal June 7, 2004

http://online.wsj.com/article/0,,SB108655737612529969,00.html
or http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/060804A.shtml

Bush administration lawyers contended last year that
the president wasn't bound by laws prohibiting torture
and that government agents who might torture prisoners
at his direction couldn't be prosecuted by the Justice
Department.

The advice was part of a classified report on
interrogation methods prepared for Defense Secretary
Donald Rumsfeld after commanders at Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba, complained in late 2002 that with conventional
methods they weren't getting enough information from
prisoners.

The report outlined U.S. laws and international
treaties forbidding torture, and why those restrictions
might be overcome by national-security considerations
or legal technicalities. In a March 6, 2003, draft of
the report reviewed by The Wall Street Journal,
passages were deleted as was an attachment listing
specific interrogation techniques and whether Mr.
Rumsfeld himself or other officials must grant
permission before they could be used. The complete
draft document was classified "secret" by Mr. Rumsfeld
and scheduled for declassification in 2013.

The draft report, which exceeds 100 pages, deals with a
range of legal issues related to interrogations,
offering definitions of the degree of pain or
psychological manipulation that could be considered
lawful. But at its core is an exceptional argument that
because nothing is more important than "obtaining
intelligence vital to the protection of untold
thousands of American citizens," normal strictures on
torture might not apply.

The president, despite domestic and international laws
constraining the use of torture, has the authority as
commander in chief to approve almost any physical or
psychological actions during interrogation, up to and
including torture, the report argued. Civilian or
military personnel accused of torture or other war
crimes have several potential defenses, including the
"necessity" of using such methods to extract
information to head off an attack, or "superior
orders," sometimes known as the Nuremberg defense:

Please ask General Ashcroft if the torture of Canadians as below is a
made in U-S-A project?

Z

The Governments of BC and Canada believe they have the right to torture
and kill innocent citizens. The UDHR says otherwise.

For Immediate Release
GROWING 9/11 TRUTH MOVEMENT LAUNCHES JOINT WEBSITE, CALLS FOR NEW
INVESTIGATION OF UNEXPLAINED FACTS
New York, NY (June 8, 2004) -- A new umbrella organization called 911Truth.org
today announced the launch of a website to serve as a clearinghouse for
the highest quality work of the emerging 911 truth movement. The site highlights
the efforts of leading investigators, authors, videographers, and activists
calling for a truly independent investigation of still unexplained facts.
According to David Kubiak, executive director of the organization, "The
discoveries of independent 9/11 researchers, recent whistleblower testimony,
and the demands of victim families have now reached the point where a coordinated
approach is necessary. 911Truth.org will introduce the most important news
on all these fronts as well as empower activism. Given just the currently
known facts, we feel that exposing the full truth of 9/11 before the next
election is an urgent and truly patriotic necessity."
After many months of pressure from victim family groups, the Bush administration
established the Kean Commission last year to investigate the events of
9/11.  This body will conclude its inquiry on July 26. However, many
concerned observers have noted that the Commission is deeply compromised
by its members' political, financial, and personal ties with those they
should be investigating. Kyle Hence, founder of 9/11 Citizens Watch and
a member of the 911Truth.org board, said, "Through my work with 9/11 families,
I have witnessed growing disillusionment with this investigation's direction,
depth and sincerity. I believe it is now obvious that the Commission's
findings will reveal little new information because it still refuses to
address the hard questions the family groups have asked. Clearly the commissioners'
personal or professional ties are affecting their willingness to challenge
the glaring inconsistencies of the official story. The victims' families
deserve far better, as do our people as a whole."
To address these shortcomings, the 9/11 truth movement has developed
its own investigative bodies, including the March 26-28 "International
Inquiry - Phase I" in San Francisco and the five-day "International Inquiry
- Phase II" that just concluded in Toronto on May 30th. The need for these
inquiries was underlined by a Canadian poll reported in the May 26th Toronto
Star showing that 63 per cent of Canadians now believe the U.S. government
had "prior knowledge of the plans for September 11th, and failed to take
appropriate action." Such opinions are also publicly held by eminent government
officials in Canada, Britain, Belgium, and Germany. Evidence for these
views has been widely discussed for years in the foreign press.
Despite the lack of debate in the US media, prominent Americans like
actor Ed Asner, author Howard Zinn, activist Kevin Danaher, former Assistant
Secretary of Housing Catherine Austin Fitts, retired USAF Colonel Dr. Robert
Bowman, and author Jim Hightower are now calling for an immediate re-examination
of September 11 events, and the US Green Party has recently demanded a
new independent investigation "with full participation of surviving family
members."  Several new documentaries and books are also fueling this
truth movement, particularly "The New Pearl Harbor - Disturbing Questions
about the Bush Administration and 9/11" by renowned theologian David Ray
Griffin. Griffin was recently featured on Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now!,
as was 9/11 widow Ellen Mariani who is suing top White House officials
under the RICO (racketeering) Act for letting 9/11 happen for personal
and political gain.

Re: [CTRL] new information from Michael Ruppert -- there wasn't a "stand down" on Sept 11, it was the WAR GAMES on 9/11 which paralyzed NORAD's air defenses

Ahh, Michael Ruppert: the man that shouted me off the CIA-Drugs list for
mentioning current MKULTRA-LSD-methampetine ops. The man that carries on
GW's story like a loyal dog: that nineteen Arab hijackers pulled off 9-11
(four at least are known to be alive - i.e. were not part of any suicide
mission).

The man that has threatened me with lawsuits for stating that he attempts to
ban me from every forum he and I happen to co-inhabit, for recalling the
record; the man that got two years of my critical research on Warren
Buffet's involvement in 9-11 removed from Indymedia.org.

The man is a fake.

This was written several months ago:

Mike Ruppert is a man that I know to be quick to threaten unfounded
lawsuits and fail to deliver my desire to have Mike on the stand yet the
only thing that he seems to actually ACCOMPLISH in his strivings against
independent research is to get people censored. The pattern has remained
exactly the same for some time. I have spoken of it loudly for quite a
good long while and the pattern, miraculously some would claim, remains
intact.

Indymedia knows, I am sure, that they have sabotaged one of the only
independently arrived at, comprehensive investigation into the events of 9-
11 as a GREAT DEAL of it was archived there. I guess the piece
entitled "Does Al Qaeda Exist?" was the last straw. Indymedia AND Mike
Ruppert have worked very hard to maintain the story as it was essentially
provided by George W. Bush, the lead that says that nineteen Arab hijackers

pulled off 9-11.

Now we see how pervasive is the conspiracy. It is not everywhere but it
DOES exist at some key positions.

[CTRL] Superpower or Superdebtor?

2004-06-08 Thread William Shannon
-Caveat Lector-
http://www.antiwar.com/paul/?articleid=2768

June 8, 2004
Superpower or Superdebtor?
by Rep. Ron Paul

Since the passage of the "Iraq Liberation Act" in 1998, the U.S. government has spent more than 40 million taxpayer dollars on the Iraqi National Congress and its leader Ahmed Chalabi. As we now know, Chalabi in turn fed the U.S. government lies about Iraqâs weapons of mass destruction and ties to al-Qaeda in the hope that the U.S would invade Iraq, overthrow Saddam Hussein, and put him in power. To hedge his bets, it appears he made a few deals with the Iranians, delivering US intelligence to that country. Howâs that for gratitude? Now we see that the U.S. has raided the house of Ahmed Chalabi and seized his papers and computers to see how much damage he may have caused the U.S. with his Iranian dealings.

Round and round we go, and we never seem to learn. Regime change plans, whether by CIA operations or by preemptive war, almost always go badly. American intervention abroad â installing the Shah of Iran in the fifties, killing Diem in South Vietnam in the sixties, helping Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein in the eighties, and propping up dictators in many Arab countries â has had serious repercussions for American interests, including the loss of American life.

It is clear that interventionism leads to the perceived need for more interventionism, which leads to more conflict and to increased resentment and anti-Americanism. It is an endless cycle and the American taxpayer is always left holding the bill. This policy has huge dollar costs at home, which contributes to huge deficits, higher interest rates, inflation, and economic dislocations. War cannot raise the standard of living for the average American.

The day is fast approaching when we no longer will be able to afford this burden. For now foreign governments are willing to loan us the money needed to finance our current account deficit, and indirectly the cost of our worldwide military operations. But economic law eventually will limit our ability to live off others by credit creation.

Eventually trust in the dollar will be diminished, if not destroyed. At that point it will become painfully obvious to even the most strident supporter of our interventionist foreign policy that the superpower has become a superdebtor, its power and influence greatly diminished, and its people much poorer and more vulnerable.

It is not too late to change course. The United States can again be viewed as the shining city on the hill and an example to other nations by re-embracing the kind of foreign and economic policies that made us wealthy and admired across the globe in the first place. This means less government, less taxation, and no foreign meddling. Regaining our economic security will go much further toward guaranteeing our national security in the future.

Then count me out as a conscientious objector. The rich and the poor are
always with us. But POC's objection is to the EUGENICS program of
Martin-Campbell in which those not deemed "fit" are sentenced to death. It
is based on fascist values ... no hyperbole. Those who do not comply with
liberal marketplace values are defined as useless eaters, not "fit" to
live and are being given de facto death sentences in BC as we type.
Just spell out in words, ie a "sentence" what HR 2863 says.

DENY that MHR Form/Procedure 2863 for those with and without medical
barriers to employment gives a death sentence for non-compliance, Fascist
Stan. Go ahead and see how you can can't get away with lies online.

Yes or No

Your Form/Procedure is or is not a eugenicist's death sentence.

ok, i think this would make a very good book.
what happened at OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE on 911.  one chapter on each CEO or
prominant individual was there.  something like that.  anyone want to
write it?  heh.  what is that one website where you type someone's

institutions?  anyone know what im talking about?

On the morning of Sept. 11, Tatlock herself had just arrived with a small
group of business leaders at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha for a charity event
hosted by Warren Buffett. She then heard the news of the first plane hitting the
World Trade Center's north tower.
Fiduciary's offices, spread among the 92nd through 97th floors of the south
tower, typically at that time would be filling with the firm's 650 employees.
But workers had started making their way to ground level after the first plane
struck the neighboring structure.
Moments later, back in Omaha, a television picture flashed on a large screen,
and Tatlock witnessed the second plane plowing into the south tower.
"There on the screen, I saw the second plane crash into my office," Tatlock
recalled.

No one is sure where the story reported at this time of a
"credible terrorist threat" to Air Force One came from. What can be safely said
is that it served the White House's immediate purposes, even though it was
completely untrue. As it was, while Mr Bush was on the ground at Barksdale, the
White House let it be known that a threat - supposedly "quoting a recognised
code" - had been received, to the effect that "Air Force One is next".
The picture changed instantly. No more could the President be
accused of sheltering in the safety of far-away Louisiana; now he was a hunted
man - the main target. Within a week, though, Ari Fleischer, the White House
press secretary, had all but admitted the story was completely untrue.
Who cooked it up? Most fingers point at Mr Cheney. "It did two
things for Dick," says a well-informed Washington official. "It reinforced his
argument that the President should stay out of town, and it gave George W an
excellent reason for doing so."
A few minutes before 1pm, therefore, after just over an hour on
the ground, Mr Bush agreed to fly to Nebraska. "As much as anything," said
Andrew Card later, "he didn't want to use up any more time talking about it. He
knew he'd be criticised, whatever. But it was the right thing to do."
The President was taken back to his plane in a camouflaged Humvee
surrounded by armed guards, and at 1.15, Air Force One took off - as Mr Cheney
had wanted - for Offutt, Nebraska. Twelve minutes later a State of Emergency was
declared in Washington.
...
At 2.50pm, Air Force One touched down at Offutt, and Bush was
taken into an underground bunker - again one designed to withstand a nuclear
blast. The sprawling base, one of the most heavily-defended in the USA, is home
to the US Air Force's 55th Wing, which flies Boeing 747s specially adapted for
military use in reconnaissance and intelligence gathering.
As Mr Cheney had pointed out, it also houses an advanced
strategic command and communications centre, from which Bush was able to
teleconference directly with Mr Cheney and Ms Rice in the White House, Mr
Rumsfeld in the Pentagon, and members of the National Security Council. The
meeting lasted a full hour.
According to Ms Rice, the President opened it by saying: "This is
an attack on freedom, and we're going to treat it as such. We have to minister
to the country, and deal with the horrors, but we're not going to lose focus. We
have to mobilise

agent shot at 11 times; escapes injury
A U.S. Border Patrol agent was shot at 11
times near Sonoita during a string of smuggling-related
incidents but escaped injury, authorities said.

On Wednesday morning, the unidentified agent was
following a truck that had a felony alert on it from
Bisbee police, who wanted to question the driver.
Before the agent could turn on emergency lights, the
truck made a U-turn and headed toward Mexico.
Other agents, who were trying to assist, encountered
two more northbound pickups, which also turned around
and headed toward Mexico.
The first agent, following the pickup with the felony
alert, encountered a fourth pickup parked just north of
the border. As the agent approached the truck, occupants
fired 11 shots with an assault rifle and a handgun.
As the agent tried to head for safety, a fifth pickup
deliberately slammed his marked patrol car, then fled
into Mexico.
Three pickups made it to Mexico. Another
pickup was intercepted by a Border Patrol
helicopter about a quarter-mile north of the border. Its
occupants abandoned it and fled across the border.
The pickup from which the shots were fired, which was
reported stolen in Scottsdale, blew a tire about a mile
north of the border and was abandoned.
The occupants fled. Agents seized 325 pounds of
marijuana from the abandoned trucks.

Man Wins Libel Damages Over al Qaeda Charge
Published: June 08, 2004

LONDON (AP) A Web site designer accepted substantial undisclosed libel
damages Tuesday from a newspaper that said he was suspected of being an
accomplice of Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda terror network, the man's lawyer
said.

Adam Musa King, the creator of Mathaba.Net, had sued the Sunday Telegraph
over two "offensive and distressing" articles published after the Sept. 11
terrorist attacks on the United States.

His lawyer, Barton Taylor, told the High Court in London that the first
article, in October that year, did not identify King by name but suggested
he was suspected of being an accomplice of al Qaeda.

The second, in December, identified King and suggested there were good
grounds to suspect him of being a supporter of al Qaeda, Taylor said.

The Telegraph Group Ltd. now accepts there was no truth to the allegations,
the lawyer added.

He said King had always abhorred terrorism and had never advocated or
supported violence of any description or political change by anything other
than peaceful democratic means.

The Sunday Telegraph apologized and agreed to pay damages as well as King's
legal costs.

Dear ,
When George Bush announced his “W Stands for Women” campaign, I was astonished and appalled. But now there's something we can do about it. I encourage you to take action below.
Bob Fertik, Co-founderDemocrats.com

A few days ago, President Bush launched a new ad campaign aimed at securing women's votes called “W Stands for Women”.
The hypocrisy of this move is outrageous.  "W" does stand for a lot of things, but women's rights is certainly not one of them!  In fact, George W. Bush has waged an all-out war on women's rights and health ever since he took office.
Please join FreeChoiceSavesLives.org in speaking out against this hypocrisy. Click here now to send a free message telling Ken Mehlman (campaign manager for Bush-Cheney ’04) that "W" does not stand for women and you won’t stand for these ads!
With friends like President Bush, women really don't need enemies...
Bush’s first official act as President was to reinstate the devastating Global Gag Rule - a coercive policy that denies funding to foreign health care providers that educate women about their right to choose.
The Bush administration has also refused to release the crucial $34 million Congress has approved to fund the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), a life-saving organization that works to prevent HIV/AIDS and provides family planning and maternal health care to the world's neediest women and girls.
Not content to attack women’s rights abroad, the Bush administration also passed the so-called "partial-birth" abortion ban making it a crime for American women to have late-term abortions.  And Reuters recently reported that the Bush administration has been systematically "stripping information on a range of women’s issue from government web sites and reports" to further its political agenda.
It’s bad enough that George W. Bush has done these things to endanger women’s lives, but it’s simply unacceptable for him to do so while claiming publicly that he "stands for women"!  Join FreeChoiceSavesLives.org in speaking out against this dishonesty - click here to send your letter to Bush’s campaign manager now.
Then forward this message to your mom, your sister, your daughter, and your friends and ask them to do the same.
Thank you,
Eve FoxCampaign Manager, FreeChoiceSavesLives.orgA Project of International Planned Parenthood Federation/ Western Hemisphere Region

Gary North's REALITY CHECK

Issue 350 June 8, 2004

[This is written by the only living writer who
voted for William Penn Patrick in California's
 1966 Republican gubanatorial election because
Ronald Reagan's conservatism was too soft core.]

   RONALD REAGAN'S EXTRAORDINARY TIMING

Ronald Reagan died on Saturday, June 5, 2004. Of all
days on which he could have died, this was the best
possible day for his reputation's sake. Even in death, his
timing was perfect.

Saturdays are low-news days. Businesses and
governments are shut down. Most people are enjoying a day
off. Weekend editors are always looking for Sunday's lead
story.

Last Saturday was different. Every editor had
selected the lead story for Sunday: the 60th anniversary of
D-Day. President Bush was at Normandy. With 1,000 World
War II vets dying every day, and with three-quarters of
them gone, this would be the last major memorial of D-Day
in which vets would participate. D-Day was the defining
day of the war.

Then the news came from California: Ronald Reagan was
dead. Across America, Sunday's lead story changed. The
headline and two subheads of the "Arkansas Democrat
Gazette" are representative:

 Former president Reagan dies

 Arkansans remember his optimism
 America mourns lost leader

Under his photo was this quotation:

"I've always stated that the nearest thing to
eternal life we'll ever see on this earth is a
 government program." (April 9, 1986)

There it was, in one quotation: his humor and his
message. Combined, they inflicted utterly unexpected
losses on the political establishment of 1912-1980. Not a
defeat, but serious losses.

We are now seeing what America has never seen before
and will likely never see again: the entire nation is
saying a fond farewell to a President who did not die in
office. This mourning is not grief. It is more like
relief. When Lincoln was assassinated and Franklin
Roosevelt died and Kennedy was assassinated, they were in
office. The outpouring was grief more than mourning. Only
one non-sitting President has ever generated the emotional
response that has now begun and will last until Reagan's
funeral: George Washington. But his legacy was that of
"father of his country" more than it was his role as
President.

Ronald Reagan had begun his death as no other
president had: the day, ten years ago, that he was told he
had Alzheimer's. That was a death sentence. By the time
he died, he did not know who he was or what he had done.
There was nothing left of him worth writing about.

In the years between his retirement and the
announcement of his Alzheimer's, anyone who had anything
negative to say against him had his opportunity. On
Saturday came the announcement of the fulfillment of the
fait accompli. The critics by then had nothing left to
say.

There is something else which no one else will say in
print, so I will. I am a card-carrying member of the NASC:
the National Association of Scribblers and Chatterers. We
make our livings with words. Take away our ability to
write and speak, and we are nothing. Our definition of who
we are disappears. So, we live in fear of Alzheimer's.
Diagnose us with any other disease, with the exception of
the worst of all ways to die by disease, hydrophobia, and
we think, "I can at least die in dignity with this." But
Alzheimer's strips us of the two things that matter to us:
our ability to write and our ability to speak. There is a
tendency for writers to stop criticizing any victim of
Alzheimer's. Ronald Reagan received Kings-X on the day
that he wrote his letter of goodbye. Charlton Heston is
receiving it now.

So, the critics had already said their tw

Armitage Thinks Days Numbered as No. 2
U.S. Diplomat
Fri Jun 4, 2004 06:37 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage
said on Friday he could soon leave office, a remark sure to fuel speculation the
No. 2 U.S. diplomat and his boss, Secretary of State Colin Powell, will not
serve another term.
"I suspect my days of public service, given my age, are just about over," the
59-year-old diplomat said in an interview.
Many political analysts believe Powell and Armitage do not want to stay on if
President Bush wins re-election. Media reports periodically suggest the two, who
resisted the administration's push to invade Iraq more than other senior
officials, will leave their posts together next year.
It is likely Armitage, who ran an international consulting company before
joining Powell in the Bush administration in 2001, would exit only when his
close friend does, analysts say.
Asked repeatedly if they would continue leading U.S. diplomacy should Bush
win again, the former military men typically use the refrain that they "serve at
the pleasure of the president."
But Armitage, who has a reputation for candor, was more direct in the
interview taped by 11-year-olds for a school presentation.
Asked how he won the nickname, 'Powell's bulldog,' the barrel-chested
weight-lifter told Delaware Valley Elementary School TV: "How unfair. I thought
it would be 'Powell's poodle,' which has some alliteration."

Quote: Published Monday, June 7, 2004 Miami jewelry
supplier charged with laundering $7 million By CATHERINE WILSON
Associated Press Writer MIAMI A Miami jewelry supplier laundered
more than $7 million in drugs profits through his business in meetings with
more than 20 Colombian drug dealers as federal agents worked undercover to
take advantage of the same services, federal prosecutors charged Monday.
Raphael Adouth, owner of Rosenthal Jewelers Supply Corp., and office
manager Lourdes Meulener Challiol face 30 years to life in prison if convicted
of money laundering, filing false tax forms and conspiracy. Bond was set at $1
million for him and $100,000 for her, all of which was pledged before they
left their first court hearing. Relatives, friends and supporters from
Adouth's Bal Harbour synagogue, which received donations and a $300,000 loan
from him, filled all four spectator rows of the courtroom, where men and women
wiped away tears. Challiol cried softly as she leaned on a rail for support
before she was allowed to sit down. Assistant U.S. Attorney Yvonne
Rodriguez-Shack told U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephen Brown that Adouth's
laundering services date back to 1998. The indictment issued May 20 and
unsealed Monday listed nearly $1.1 million in six deals since 2001.
"The government's case is extremely solid," the prosecutor told the
judge, saying it is backed by undercover tapes. She said Adouth was Israeli
and had "great ties to Colombia and Colombian drug dealers." Prosecutors did
not offer the names of any traffickers tied to the case. Defense
attorney Mark Schnapp responded that Adouth was born in the Brooklyn section
of New York, has lived in Miami for years, has visited Israel but is not
Israeli and had never been to Colombia. Adouth is religious, is active
in his congregation and is supported by "substantial members of this
community," Schnapp said. Prosecutors have frozen the finances for
three interconnecting buildings that make up the Rosenthal warehouse. The
government wants to seize two bank accounts, property on Bay Harbour Island
and the $1.8 million business, which also was indicted. The bail is
guaranteed by the luxury homes of two brothers-in-law in Bal Harbour and North
Miami and their father, a 40-year apparel maker who swore he had no financial
ties to Adouth. Richard Moore, Challiol's attorney, said outside
court, "We're pretty confident that she'll be fully exonerated, as we are for
Mr. Adouth." Arraignment was set for June 21.

Ronald Reagan had the birth of a deity. Within 20 minutes of his inauguration, Iran freed the hostages that wimpy Jimmy Carter had been unable to rescue. I was 11 years old at the time and impressed but baffled. How had he done it?

No one seemed to know or very much care. Apparently the Iranians had wanted to make a statement about how much they disliked Carter, and we didn't want to dwell on the motivations of Iranians. The important thing was that the hostages were finally coming home to heroes' welcomes.

At last we'd rescue some trees from yellow ribbons. The kids at my school who had sung "Bomb Bomb Iran" to the tune of the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann" at the talent show would have to get a new song. It was Morning in America, and we needed to put our childhoods behind us. I'd be in high school soon, and Oliver North would come warn my history class about the danger of communism in Nicaragua.

Reagan was immortal. When he was shot, the television showed it to us and told us about it thousands of times. Reagan cheerfully joked with the doctors and bounced right back. The country did not suffer during his brief absence, because he was not absent from his essential function as an encouraging personality. Nor did later signs of senility diminish his role.

Today, as the media pours out its tributes, as the Washington Post lavishes over 10,000 words, as Senator John Kerry praises good old Ronnie to the skies, much of the commentary is about personality, almost all of it is laudatory, and I have been unable to find one mention of hostages in Iran.

We have forgotten Reagan's birth and will soon forget his death as well. He will become an eternal brave and smiling president: dentures and a cowboy hat hovering over the Potomac like a Cheshire cat. His presence will be unavoidable. Already if anyone asks me the name of a building or highway or train station and I don't know it, I encourage them to wait a little while and then expect it to be called Reagan. Most things are named or renamed Reagan these days, at least in Washington.

Reagan is the source of a number of trends in American politics. Through the late 1970s, wages and working conditions were improving for ordinary Americans. From the day Reagan fired the air traffic controllers through eight years of his tax cutting and military spending, it became clear that a divide would be opened up between the rich and the rest of us, that public education and care for our young, old, and ill would be slashed in the name of militarism, and that - in short and anachronistically - Reagan would be the most radical approach toward a George W. Bush presidency prior to George W. Bush.

Reagan is also the source of many of the relationships in Iran and Iraq that have troubled the United States since. Kevin Phillips' recent book American Dynasty does a good job of summarizing the strong evidence that Bill Casey and George H.W. Bush made a deal with the Iranians not to release the hostages until after the 1980 U.S. presidential election.

This would mean that Reagan's election was illegal, that the trading during the Iran-Contra scandal had a precedent, that Reagan and G.H.W. Bush's buildup of Saddam Hussein's military was motivated in part by a desire to counter weaponry and money that the United States had given Iran in exchange for Reagan's election, that our media has completely fallen down on the job, and that we're all a bunch of suckers.

That just can't be right. Please forget I mentioned it.

Journalist shootings force BBC to use armed guards
Tue 8 June, 2004 13:29

By Kate Kelland

LONDON (Reuters) - The fatal shooting of a BBC cameraman in Saudi Arabia has
forced the broadcaster to change its policy and allow armed bodyguards to
accompany reporters in areas of extreme danger.

The BBC's decision on Tuesday came after the Irish cameraman was killed and
a correspondent critically wounded in a drive-by shooting in Riyadh,
sparking an anguished debate about reporters putting their lives on the
line.

A BBC spokesman said armed guards would be deployed as an exceptional
measure.

"This is very much a last resort in exceptional circumstances such as
high-risk war zones, like areas of Iraq where you literally can't go without
armed protection," he said.

"Certain areas in Iraq are so wild and lawless that you really need armed
protection in order to be able to report."

He said Saudi Arabia, where cameraman Simon Cumbers was killed and
correspondent Frank Gardner was seriously injured in the Sunday shooting, is
not a war zone and would not be considered dangerous enough to justify armed
protection.

Media organisations around the world said the Riyadh attack was a vivid
example of how journalists increasingly have to put their lives on the line
to do their jobs effectively.

The Brussels-based International Federation of Journalists urged media
groups to provide more protection for their staff.

"The targeting of journalists by ruthless terrorists presents media with its
greatest challenge," IFJ General Secretary Aidan White said in a statement.

"We cannot bow to the intimidation of cold-blooded and ruthless killers, so
we must face up to the reality that in this new climate of terrorism, more
actions must be taken to protect our people because we can be sure more
attacks will take place."

International broadcaster CNN said it had been providing armed protection
for its reporters for some time in high-risk areas such as Iraq and
Afghanistan.

"In the past year, things have been ramped up to an extremely dangerous
level for journalists," said Nick Wrenn, CNN's managing editor for Europe,
Middle East and Africa.

"The situation in Iraq now is arguably as dangerous as any situation ever,"
he told Reuters.

"Journalists are being deliberately targeted in some areas, like Iraq.
Journalists are no longer seen by some elements as impartial, neutral
observers, but as part of the problem and therefore a legitimate target."

Others expressed extreme caution about asking reporters to work alongside
armed minders.

"Our journalists are not accompanied at any point by armed guards," said a
spokeswoman for Reuters, the global news organisation. "In some locations,
for example in Baghdad, we have armed personnel outside our offices."

Reuters said other measures, such as training of journalists for conflict
situations and the use of security advisers on the ground, were more
effective than bodyguards. "Armed guards can at times escalate the amount of
danger," the spokeswoman said.

David Dadge, editor of the Vienna-based International Press Institute warned
against reinforcing an already growing perception in some parts of the
Middle East that journalists are partisan.

"The worry is that with the use of armed guards, journalists could perhaps
be seen as part of the problem -- in essence they could be seen as a third
force within the country," he said.

According to the IFJ, up to 60 journalists and media staff have been killed
so far this year -- many of them in Iraq where the IFJ says deliberate
targeting of reporters in increasing.

Italy Arrests Suspected Madrid Bombing 'Mastermind'
By Emilio Parodi and Clara Ferreira-Marques
Tue Jun 8, 2004 07:17 AM ET

http://wwwi.reuters.com/images/w148/amdf643923.jpg

MILAN, Italy (Reuters) - Italy arrested an Egyptian man considered to be a
mastermind of the Madrid train bombings in the first Europe-wide swoop on
Islamic militants linked to the March attack, judicial sources said Tuesday.

Italian Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu said militants had been planning
more attacks as police swooped as part of an operation across Europe. He
said the swoop was aimed at a group "close to al Qaeda."

Police in Milan arrested Rabei Osman Sayed Ahmed, known as "Mohamed the
Egyptian," and another man as part of cross-border raids into the March 11
bombings that killed 191 people in the Spanish capital, the judicial sources
said.

Ahmed was considered "one of the masterminds" of the Madrid bombings, a
Spanish Interior Ministry spokesman said.

He has been linked to a Tunisian man, now dead, whom investigators
identified as the ringleader of the suspected Islamic militants behind the
attacks, the spokesman added.

A Madrid court will now seek the extradition of the 32-year-old Egyptian, a
court official said.

Police in northern Italy, France, Spain and Belgium took part in the
coordinated raids, Italian judicial sources said.

"Raids are under way in Belgium, Spain and France as well as in Italy," an
Italian judicial source said. Another judicial source said: "It is
coordinated at the European level."

Italian police were acting on an arrest warrant when they seized Ahmed late
Monday. High Court Judge Juan del Olmo, who has been leading the probe into
the train attacks, issued the warrant Monday.

"I know that there has been an arrest for which we should congratulate the
Italian police and all the police who have worked with the Italians,"
Spanish Interior Minister Jose Antonio Alonso told reporters.

"Mohamed the Egyptian" was seized after a three-month probe by Italy's
anti-terrorist unit and Italian intelligence and he was thought to be the
head of a Moroccan radical Islamist cell, Italian newspaper Corriere della
Sera said.

On April 4, Spain's Interior Ministry released a picture of the man, saying
he was wanted for "Islamic terrorism," but at that time he was not directly
tied to the train bombings.
Corriere reported the owner of the man's apartment in Milan, believed to be
a north African, was also arrested.

TIGHTER SECURITY

Belgian federal prosecutor Eric Van Der Sypt confirmed Brussels was working
with the Italian authorities. Italian news agency ANSA said Belgian police
arrested one man in Belgium and detained about a dozen others.

So far, 20 people have been accused of involvement in the Madrid bombings.
Fourteen of them are under arrest, while at least 20 others have been
arrested and cleared.

Another Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, said three or four men had been
arrested in raids in three northern Italian towns including Milan and they
had planned an attack in Italy.

Italy has long been seen as a target for militant Islamic groups after its
support for the U.S.-led campaign in Iraq and it has stepped up security
since the Madrid bombs.

Italian police have made several arrests, mainly in the north, since
September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.

Last month in Florence, anti-terror police arrested five suspected members
of a militant Islamic group who were believed to be recruiting suicide
bombers to carry out attacks in Iraq.

An Algerian imam and four Tunisians were detained in Florence as part of a
year-long investigation into alleged "terrorist" cells there and in the port
city of Genoa, according to officials working on the probe.

Italian hostages in Iraq freed
Tue 8 June, 2004 13:57

MILAN (Reuters) - Three Italian hostages who were held in Iraq for almost
two months were freed on Tuesday and are in good condition, the Italian
foreign minister says.

"They were freed about one and a half hours ago by coalition forces near
Baghdad. There was no bloodshed. The boys are on their way to the airport
now," Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said on state television on Tuesday.

Frattini said no deal had been cut for the release of the hostages.

A Polish hostage had also been freed, he said.

The commander of Polish troops in Iraq said special forces from the U.S.-led
coalition freed the four.

"Thanks to coalition special forces, the Polish citizen... was freed along
with three other captives of Italian nationality," General Mieczyslaw
Bieniek told private Polish station TVN 24.

Four Italians working for a U.S. security firm were abducted on April 12
near Baghdad.

One of them was shot dead after Italy refused to bow to demands to withdraw
its 2,700 troops from Iraq. Footage of the other three was shown on Arabic
satellite channel Al Jazeera last week. One of them said they were being
treated well.

Al Jazeera also aired a statement from the kidnappers, calling themselves
the Green Battalion, urging Italian people to demonstrate against the
policies of the United States and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Cities Say No to the Patriot Act

By Kim Zetter Wired News June 7, 2004

http://www.wired.com/news/privacy/0,1848,63702,00.html

Forget drug-free and nuclear-free zones. A growing
grassroots movement seeks to make the United States a
Patriot Act-free zone, one city at a time.

Or, at the very least, the people behind the movement
hope to make their cities constitutional safe zones.

In the past two years, more than 300 cities and four
states have passed resolutions calling on Congress to
repeal or change parts of the USA Patriot Act that,
activists say, violate constitutional rights such as
free speech and freedom from unreasonable search and
seizure.

Barring that, the resolutions declare that their
communities will uphold the constitutional rights of
their residents should federal law enforcement agents
come knocking on the door of local authorities for
assistance in tracking residents. This means local
authorities will insist on complying with federal
orders only in ways that do not violate constitutional
rights. The resolutions are not binding, however, and
do not affect the federal government's actions.

The national movement was launched in 2001 by the Bill
of Rights Defense Committee, an organization led by
activist Nancy Talanian. Talanian first lobbied her
community -- Northhampton, Massachusetts, a town of
30,000 people -- to stand against the act in November
2001, when few people had heard about the legislation.

Talanian and fellow activists urged newspaper editors
to write about the legislation and hosted a public
forum attended by 400 people, including Northampton's
mayor and chief of police. Word spread quickly to other
communities, four of which passed their own resolutions
before Northampton passed its declaration the following
May.

Two years later, 322 municipalities and four states --
Alaska, Hawaii, Maine and Vermont -- have Patriot Act
resolutions.

Congress passed the USA Patriot Act swiftly in October
2001, 45 days after the Sept. 11 attacks, easing
restrictions on the government's ability to dig up
personal information about citizens and non-citizens,
and obtain wiretaps and search warrants. Only one
senator, Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin), and 61 House of
Representative members voted against the legislation.

Under the act, federal investigators can obtain
individuals' library, financial, health and education
records from cities while barring municipal workers
from letting anyone know authorities have seized the
documents. Officials can also monitor the activities of
people who have not been identified as suspects and
search a home or office without prior notice.

The municipal resolutions, crafted individually by each
community, vary in language. They affirm, for the most
part, that city employees aiding federal authorities in
national security investigations will not violate the
rights of people under investigation, such as
monitoring political and religious gatherings where
people are engaging in activities protected by the
First Amendment.

Hawaii was the first to pass a statewide resolution,
citing the internment of Japanese-Americans during
World War II as a motivating factor.

Talanian said fewer than five municipalities rejected
resolutions brought before them. These included Boston
and Petaluma, California, a small town north of San
Francisco.

Fred Hemmings, a Republican state senator in Hawaii who
voted against a resolution passed in his state, called
the resolution a political play by leftists bent on
criticizing the government.

"There are constitutional zealots that somehow believe,
especially in times of war, that some of our
adversaries should be protected by rights given to us
by the Constitution," he said. "But the people on the
left are forgetting that we're fighting a war against a
nationless enemy. It has to be fought on

sufficient toxin, there is nothing that can be done to save the person's
  life.
Anadis has patented a technology to isolate fragments of the
  antibodies.
  The federal Government is giving
$780,000 to help develop the spray, which has already
attracted the attention of one of the US's key biodefence research
institutes, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Centre of Excellence in Biodefence
  and Emerging Infectious Diseases.
Mr Bracks is expected to announce at the conference today that
scientists at La Trobe University have developed a tool that could lead to
the early detection of anthrax infection.
Such technology, if developed successfully, could allow anthrax victims
to seek medical help before symptoms develop, by which stage drugs are
  useless.
Anthrax has been used in several acts of bioterrorism, including when a
sect in Japan pumped the bacteria into a Toyko factory and when anthrax
spores were mailed to the US Senate and media outlets after the September
  11 attacks, killing postal workers.
Mick Foley, the molecular biologist heading up the La Trobe team, said
the early detection technology would work like a pregnancy test. "The test
could give a colour signal if anthrax spores are detected and no colour if
  they are absent," he said.
"Ultimately the test should be simple and cheap – a bit like a
  pregnancy test."
