[CTRL] Pentagon Group Manipulated Intelligence on Iraqi Threat

2004-09-17 Thread Daniel Mio

A half-dozen former CIA agents investigating prewar
intelligence have found that a secret Pentagon
committee, set up by Secretary of Defense Donald
Rumsfeld in October 2001, manipulated reams of
intelligence information prepared by the spy agency on
the so-called Iraqi threat and then delivered it to
top White House officials who used it to win support
for a war in Iraq.

More than a dozen calls to the White House, the CIA,
the National Security Council and the Pentagon for
comment were not returned.

The ad-hoc committee, called the Office of Special
Plans, headed by Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul
Wolfowitz, Undersecretary of Defense for Policy
Douglas Feith and other Pentagon hawks, described the
worst-case scenarios in terms of Iraq's alleged
stockpile of chemical and biological weapons and
claimed the country was close to acquiring nuclear
weapons, according to four of the CIA agents, speaking
on the condition of anonymity because the information
is still classified, who conducted a preliminary view
of the intelligence.

The agents said the Office of Special Plans is
responsible for providing the National Security
Council and Vice President Dick Cheney, National
Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice and Rumsfeld with the
bulk of the intelligence information on Iraq's weapons
program that turned out to be wrong. But White House
officials used the information it received from the
Office of Special Plans to win support from the public
and Congress to start a war in Iraq even though the
White House knew much of the information was dubious,
the CIA agents said.

For example, the agents said the Office of Special
Plans told the National Security Council last year
that Iraq's attempt to purchase aluminum tubes were
part of a clandestine program to build an atomic bomb.
The Office of Special Plans leaked the information to
the New York Times last September. Shortly after the
story appeared in the paper, Bush and Rice both
pointed to the story as evidence that Iraq posed a
grave threat to the United States and to its neighbors
in the Middle East, even though experts in the field
of nuclear science, the CIA and the State Department
advised the White House that the aluminum tubes were
not designed for an atomic bomb.

Furthermore, the CIA had been unable to develop any
links between Iraq and the terrorist group al-Qaeda.
But under Feith's direction, the Office of Special
Plans came up with information of such links by
looking at existing intelligence reports that they
felt might have been overlooked or undervalued. The
Special Plans office provided the information to the
Pentagon and to the White House. During a Pentagon
briefing last year, Rumsfeld said he had bulletproof
evidence that Iraq was harboring al-Qaeda terrorists.

At a Pentagon news conference last year, Rumsfeld said
of the intelligence gathered by Special Plans: Gee,
why don't you go over and brief George Tenet? So they
did. They went over and briefed the CIA. So there's no
there's no mystery about all this.

CIA analysts listened to the Pentagon team, nodded
politely, and said, Thank you very much, said one
government official, according to a July 20 report in
the New York Times. That official said the briefing
did not change the agency's reporting or analysis in
any substantial way.

Several current and former intelligence officials told
the Times that they felt pressure to tailor reports to
conform to the administration's views, particularly
the theories Feith's group developed.

Moreover, the agents said the Office of Special Plans
routinely rewrote the CIA's intelligence estimates on
Iraq's weapons programs, removing caveats such as
likely, probably and may as a way of depicting
the country as an imminent threat. The agents would
not identify the names of the individuals at the
Office of Special Plans who were responsible for
providing the White House with the wrong intelligence.
But, the agents said, the intelligence gathered by the
committee sometimes went directly to the White House,
Cheney's office and to Rice without first being vetted
by the CIA.

In cases where the CIA's intelligence wasn't rewritten
the Office of Special Plans provided the White House
with questionable intelligence it gathered from Iraqi
exiles from the Iraqi National Congress, a group
headed by Ahmad Chalabi, a person whom the CIA has
publicly said is unreliable, the CIA agents said.

More than a dozen CIA agents responsible for writing
intelligence reports for the agency told the former
CIA agents investigating the accuracy of the
intelligence reports said they were pressured by the
Pentagon and the Office of Special Plans to hype and
exaggerate intelligence to show Iraq as being an
imminent threat to the security of the U.S.

The White House has been dogged by questions for
nearly a month on whether the intelligence information
it had relied upon was accurate and whether top White
House officials knowingly

Yale Paper Says Bush a Hypocrite on Cuba

Washington, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) US President George W. Bush is
supporting the interests of elite businessmen who trade with the
Island,
while denying Cuban-American close connection with their relatives in
Cuba, Bush's alma mater criticizes Wednesday.

According to the Yale Daily News online, Bush should not allow US
companies to trade with Cuba while he keeps Cuba-American families out,
denying them the right to visit their loved ones in Cuba.

At the same time Bush tightened the restrictions on travel for Cuban
Americans with families on the Island, US agribusiness has profited
from
selling agricultural goods to Cuba.

Bush severely restricted travel to Cuba by Cuban Americans, permitting
only immediate family members to visit once every three years and, in
an
attempt to keep US currency from the Cuban economy, he tightened the
rules on remittances, so Cuban Americans can now send only small sums
of
money to immediate family members.

The administration"s policy is hypocritical, the university daily
asserts.

American food companies have grossed $243 million in food sales to
Cuba.
Why should large companies be able to sell millions of dollars of food
to Cuba while Cuban-Americans with relatives in Cuba cannot help them?

Cuban-Americans with relatives on the Island have the largest stake in
the welfare of Cuba and should have the most rights to travel and send
money according to their own judgment, the daily declares.

The university paper points out that Warren Staley -with close ties to
the Bush administration and a major supporter of Bush's 2004
presidential campaign- is chairman and CEO of Cargill, Inc., an
American
company that has pioneered in food sales to Cuba.

Cargill has sold over 500,000 metric tons of food products to the Cuban
state for tens of millions of dollars. In the first half of 2004 alone,
Cargill grossed over $20 million in sales to Cuba.

Growing Challenges to Bush Cuba Travel Restrictions

New York, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Opponents of President Bush's Cuba
travel and aid restrictions see hurricane damage as a fresh opportunity
to go after Bush and other Republicans on an issue severely affecting
Cuban-American and Cuban families, Tampa Tribune online published
Wednesday.

Bush limited Cuban visits to only close family members once every three
years and sharply curtailed money and supplies that can be sent to the
Island in order to economically suffocate the Cuban revolution as Cuban
families feel the pain.

In Washington, with budget legislation nearing approval this week, the
Senate Appropriations Committee passed a bill blocking travel limits
and
easing restrictions on business people trying to sell food and medical
supplies in Cuba.

Tampa Democratic Congressman Jim Davis filed an amendment to spending
legislation that would allow Cuban-Americans visit their relatives
every
year without applying for a specific license, the newspaper reports.

The sudden burst of activity coincides with recent damage to Cuba by
hurricanes Charley and Ivan. Davis pointed out that his amendment would
let Cuban-Americans make emergency trips beyond annual visits, the
Tampa-based newspaper noted.

"This isn't about politics," the congressman said, "This is about the
fundamental right of family to visit each other. The hurricane is the
most recent example of how important it is for families to be able to
help families."

Opposition to the Bush policy is growing, maintains Joe Garcia, a
Cuban-American political authority and senior adviser to the New
Democrat Network, according to the Tampa Tribune.

"A significant percentage of Cuban-Americans think this policy is
ridiculous," Garcia said. "The hurricane and everyday events in Cuba
make it clearer and clearer that his policy is ludicrous." ile/ccs/ima/

REPORT SHOWS CHENEY WENT ABROAD TO ATTACK AMERICA

Vice President Cheney has regularly attacked the
national security
credentials of Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), calling him
weak on terrorism. But
according to a new report, it was Cheney who actually
did business with
terrorist countries and traveled abroad to attack
America's
counter-terrorism efforts in the 1990s.

As The American Prospect documents, Cheney oversaw
Halliburton's effort to
do business with Iraq and Iran in the 1990s, despite
American sanctions
against those countries. During his time as CEO, he
oversaw Halliburton's
$73 million worth of business with Saddam Hussein.[1]
This, despite his
claim that he had imposed a firm policy[2] of not
doing business with
Iraq. Similarly, details of Halliburton's Iran
business during Cheney's
tenure was so egregious, it is being investigated by
authorities today.[3]
Halliburton today admits one of its subsidiaries still
performs between $30
[million] and $40 million annually in oilfield service
work in Iran.[4]

On top of evading U.S. sanctions laws against
terrorist countries, Cheney
actually attacked the U.S. government in a series of
trips abroad, demanding
sanctions be lifted on terrorist countries so he could
do business with
them. In trips to Malaysia and Canada, for instance,
he insisted the Clinton
administration lift sanctions on Iran, despite that
country being listed by
the U.S. State Department as a state-sponsor of
terrorism.[5]

Faster, Neocons! Kill! Kill!

Commentary by Martin KellySeptember 16, 2004
Beginning in 1922, the British boys’ comics Wizard and Hotspur carried a story called ‘The Wolf of Kabul’. The Wolf, British intelligence agent Bill Sampson, was a typical end of Empire type, happiest when kicking ten bells out to the locals. He had an Afghan sidekick, Chung, whose weapon of choice was a cricket bat, which he called ‘Clicky-ba’. Chung’s catchphrase after using lethal force was to say to The Wolf, ‘Lord, I am full of humble sorrow – I did not mean to knock down these men – Clicky-ba merely turned in my hand’.

Clicky-ba was turning in the hands of neocon commentator Jed Babbin in a September 13th article called ‘Did We Lose The War?’ in The American Spectator on the Web. I like TAS, think it’s a great site, second only to The Washington Dispatch. In the current difficult climate, it has the courage to publish the widest range of opinion of any conservative site affiliated to print media, with steady authors ranging from the sublime James Bowman to the ridiculous Babbin. They’ve published a lot of my letters, so I write this with some regret, as they’ll probably never do so again.

Babbin, a contributing editor of TAS and a contributor to the National Review
Online, is a former functionary in the Bush I Pentagon and is or was a talking head for MSNBC. In this capacity, he patronised Bob and Wlady’s readers by referring to his broadcasting duties as being ‘a talking warhead’ while describing himself on NRO as a ‘military analyst’. However, his climb up Rich Lowry’s greasy pole has not yet gone so far that he has merited pop-up ads for either of the books he’s written while I’ve been reading him.

The second sentence of the article was

‘We’re doing pretty well in the war against terrorists and the nations that support them’.

Therefore, a neocon betrays their belief that a state of war exists between America and any nation they believe supports terrorism. Do not expect peace any time soon. I’ve written regularly about the immorality of the neoconservatives’ rapprochement with Gaddafi. Has he?

From paragraph four –

“It’s awfully likely that we will see some large attack in the U.S. homeland before the election, because the terrorists want to affect the result”.

Classic neoconservative scaremongering. His idol, George W. Bush, has invested billions of dollars in Homeland Security, which seems to have paid off. There have been no attacks. There were no attacks during the primaries, none during the conventions. Why should Babbin think that the entire force of the Federal government will be unsuccessful in preventing an attack he is utterly confident will happen within the next few weeks? And to prevent that happening, why isn’t he calling for the return of troops from Iraq to bolster security at home? And why does he think such a strong and powerful people as the Americans are so weak that they would let terrorists affect the outcome of their election? Does he think they are children?

In paragraph five is a phrase that could be interpreted as meaning Babbin believes we aren’t killing Afghans quickly enough –

“a still-too-slow decision process is delaying our hunter-killer teams”

Faster, Neocons! Kill! Kill! Feel the turn of Clicky-ba!

On the efficacy of the Iraqi provisional government, from paragraph seven –

“We should be doing much more to destroy the insurgency in Iraq, but we can’t unless Allawi lets us. We are paying a high price for turning sovereignty back to the Iraqis too soon”

One could pick over that statement on several levels; all I will say is that it is the statement of a classical imperialist.

On the stone in their shoes that is the country of Iran, from paragraph nine –

“(His overly diplomatic comment meant that) Iran was running the al-Sadr insurgency and had become one of the principal obstacles to freedom in Iraq”.

Two principal observations – firstly, does the fact that the British government has been accused of using Basra as cover for building links with the mullahs qualify us as one of those ‘nations that support’ terrorists; and secondly, the real obstacle to freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan has been the willingness of neoconservatives to agree to Sharia law as a source for both those countries’ new constitutions. As a result of their failure to demand totally secular states, both of those countries will fail again. It is only a matter of time.

From paragraph 11, while discussing North Korea –

“John Kerry said he wants America to be respected, not feared. Sorry, Johnnie. I prefer ‘feared’”.

How they love the power of fear, a power developed by their spiritual grandfather Trotsky when he wielded the might of the Red Army.

The last sentence of the article is, well, just read this –

“Our October surprise should be a big nasty one for Iran”.

One does not know whether to mock or pity such a

2004-09-17 Thread Bill Shannon

http://reese.king-online.com/Reese_20040917/index.php
A Piece Of Work
by Charley Reese
It was 1996, and Bill Clinton was president. To give the rascal his due, he was laboring mightily to make the Middle East peace process work. That same year, three Jewish-American neoconservatives produced a policy paper for the newly elected Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
The neocons were Richard Perle, Douglas Feith and David Wurmser. Their policy paper recommended to Netanyahu that he abandon the peace process, reject "land for peace" and strengthen Israel's defenses in order to confront Syria and Iraq. The document said, "This effort can focus on removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq — an important Israeli strategic objective in its own right." It also recommended that Israel use pretexts for pre-emptive attacks.
Now, if all of this sounds familiar — and it should — that's because Perle, Feith and Wurmser joined other neocons in the Bush administration. Perle was especially vocal in pushing the war on Iraq. They had two pretexts: the attack of Sept. 11, even though Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with it, and the mythical weapons of mass destruction.
Netanyahu, by the way, did abandon the peace process. And, at a cost of $200 billion and nearly 1,000 American lives, Israel did achieve its "strategic objective in its own right" — removing Saddam from power. Unless Perle and his buddies were paid for their advice, it didn't cost Israel one shekel or one life.
Furthermore, if you stretch your memory, you will recall that until Iraq blew up in its face, the Bush administration was laying the groundwork to attack Syria, the other country Perle and his crowd named as a target for Israel. It has already imposed sanctions on Syria despite the fact that, according to our own intelligence people, Syria had been cooperating with the war on terror. The other target of the Israelis — excuse me, the Bush administration — is Iran.
If you want more details on these neocons, I recommended "Secrets and Lies," by Dilip Hiro, a distinguished Middle East scholar, and James Bamford's "A Pretext for War."
When President Bush first started talking about terrorism, he use to say "terrorists with global reach" to distinguish between al-Qaida and strictly local outfits with local agendas. That did not suit the Israelis and their American supporters. They wanted Israel's enemies to be our enemies, and so the distinction was soon dropped, and Israel's enemies were added to the official list of terrorist organizations.
The problem is that Hamas and Islamic Jihad are Palestinian organizations fighting for independence. True, they have used terrorist tactics, just as the Jewish organizations — the Stern Gang and the Irgun — did when they were fighting British occupation of Palestine. But their target is the Israeli occupation, not us.
Hezbollah is a Lebanese organization that has also used terrorist tactics, including attacks against Americans in Lebanon when it figured we were helping the Israelis in their occupation of Lebanon. But there again, its quarrel is with Israel.
I have long since given up the hope that Americans would wake up and resent the manipulation of their government by a foreign country. The Israeli lobby has been so successful in labeling any criticism of Israel, no matter how justified, as anti-Semitic that most Americans prefer to stick their heads in the sand. For sure, American politicians and much of the media seem to be terrified by the Israeli lobby, which says more about their cowardice than it does about the power of the lobby itself.
So, suit yourself. Go ahead and spend American blood and treasure for the benefit of Israel.
Just remember, the United States has one, and only one, legitimate interest in the Middle East, and that is buying oil that everybody who has it wants to sell. It doesn't matter whether we buy it from a dictator (we bought plenty from Saddam) or from a democratic government. It doesn't matter to us if the country that sells us oil likes or hates Israel.
This whole mess, including the war in Iraq and the terrorist attacks, is a result of the American government's involvement with Israel. It's a dangerous and unhealthy state of affairs that will not be cured until Americans find the courage to have an open and honest debate about our foreign policy in the Middle East.

NEW PROOF BUSH SNORTED COCAINE

George W. Bush
While President George W. Bush's spokespeople are denying the allegation in Kitty Kelley's new book that Bush used cocaine, an ENQUIRER investigation has tracked down others who are making similar bombshell charges!
One source, author Toby Rogers, said a former member of George Bush Sr.'s staff revealed to him that George W. used cocaine and "has been out of control since college."
The issue that goes on sale Friday explores Kelley's charge that George W. did cocaine at Camp David while his father was President, that First Lady Laura Bush sold marijuana in college ... and much more.

Report: Bribes Got Bomb Suspects on Planes
By MARIA DANILOVA

MOSCOW (AP) - Russian authorities believe that two Chechen women suspected of blowing up Russian passenger jets last month got on the planes by paying bribes, media reports said.

Both were detained and handed over to a police officer, who let them go, the Interfax news agency quoted Russia's Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov as saying. The women had arrived at the airport the evening of Aug. 24, accompanied by two other Chechens, Ustinov told Interfax.

``Police officers spotted them, confiscated their passports and handed them over to a police captain responsible for anti-terrorism operations to examine their belongings,'' he was quoted as saying in the Wednesday report. ``The captain let them go without any check, and they started to try to obtain tickets in the same buildings.''

It is not unusual for Chechens to be stopped by police in Moscow for questioning.

One of the alleged suicide bombers used an intermediary to pay $34 to a Sibir airlines employee to board a jet, even though she had a ticket for a flight the next day, Interfax quoted Ustinov as saying. She got on the plane two minutes before check-in closed, he said.

The same intermediary also took a bribe from the other alleged suicide bomber to get on a Volga-Aviaexpress flight, he said.

Ustinov said both the intermediary and the Sibir airline employee have been arrested.

The two planes crashed almost simultaneously on the night of Aug. 24 after taking off from Moscow's Domodyedovo airport, killing 90 people.

Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin said laboratory tests of the wreckage of the Sibir Tu-154 and the Volga-Aviaexpress Tu-134 confirmed the explosions that brought down the two planes both occurred in passenger cabins, reinforcing the suspicion that the two Chechen women were suicide bombers.

He said explosive residue and information from the planes' flight data recorders pointed to an explosion in the main cabin.

One of the women had purchased a ticket for a flight scheduled the next day but - after paying the bribe - got on the earlier flight two minutes before check-in closed, Ustinov said.

The crashes were the first in a series of recent attacks that have killed more than 430 people. On Aug. 31, a suicide bomber detonated explosives at a Moscow subway station, killing 10. The next day, dozens of heavily armed militants took more than 1,200 hostages at a school in southern Russia, which led to the deaths of more than 330 people, many of them children.

Female suicide bombers have become increasingly common in Russia, where they are known as ``black widows'' - women who turn to violence after losing husbands or male relatives in Chechen fighting.

Russia's Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported Wednesday that Russian security services have been searching for about 20 women allegedly recently trained by extremist Islamist underground cells to commit suicide terrorist attacks.

Michael Moore is making a sacrifice in NOT going for the oscar for
documentary he EASILY has sewn in a bag...by tv.airing his documentary.
CUZ he wants KERRY TO WIN. Feels tv viewership would
put Kerry over the edge.
-he wrote---
Why I Will Not Seek a Best Documentary Oscar
(I'm giving it up in the hopes more voters can see Fahrenheit 9/11)

9/6/04
Dear Friends,

I had dinner recently with a well-known pollster who had often worked
for Republicans. He told me that when he went to see
Fahrenheit 9/11 he got sodistraught he twice had to go out in the
lobby and pace during the movie.

The Bush White House left open a huge void when it came to explaining
the war to the American people, he told me. And
your film has filled that void -- and now there is no way to defeat it.
It is the atomic bomb of this campaign.

He told me how he had conducted an informal poll with Fahrenheit 9/11
audiences in three different cities and the results
were all the same. Essentially, 80% of the people going IN to see your
movie are already likely Kerry voters and the movie
has galvanized them in a way you rarely see Democrats galvanized.

But, here's the bad news for Bush: Though 80% going IN to your movie
are Kerry voters, 100% of those COMING OUT
of your movie are Kerry voters. You can't come out of this movie and
say, 'I am absolutely and enthusiastically voting for
George W. Bush.'

His findings are similar to those in other polls conducted around the
country. In Pennsylvania, a Keystone poll showed that
4% of Kerry's support has come from people who decided to vote for him
AFTER seeing Fahrenheit 9/11 -- and in an
election that will be very close, 4% is a landslide. A Harris poll found
that 44% of Republicans who see the film give it a
positive rating. Another poll, to be released this week, shows a
21-point shift in Bush's approval rating, after just one
viewing of the movie, among audiences of undecideds who were shown
Fahrenheit 9/11 in Ohio.

My pollster friend told me that he believes if Kerry wins, Fahrenheit
9/11 will be one of the top three reasons for his
election. Kerry's only problem, he said, is how many people will
actually be able to see it before election day. The less that
see it, the better for Bush.

But 20 million people have already seen it -- and the Gallup poll said
that 56% of the American public has seen or plans to
see Fahrenheit 9/11 either in the theater or on home video. The DVD
and home video of our film, thanks to our distributors
listening to our pleas to release it before November, will be in the
stores on October 5. This is very good news.

But can it also be shown on TV? I brought this possibility up in this
week's Rolling Stone interview. Our contract with our
DVD distributor says no, it cannot. I have asked them to show it just
once, perhaps the night before the election. So far, no
deal. But I haven't given up trying.

The only problem with my desire to get this movie in front of as many
Americans as possible is that, should it air on TV, I will
NOT be eligible to submit Fahrenheit 9/11 for Academy Award
consideration for Best Documentary. Academy rules forbid
the airing of a documentary on television within nine months of its
theatrical release (fiction films do not have the same
restriction).

Although I have no assurance from our home video distributor that they
would allow a one-time television broadcast -- and
the chances are they probably won't -- I have decided it is more
important to take that risk and hope against hope that I can
persuade someone to put it on TV, even if it's the night before the
election.

Therefore, I have decided not to submit Fahrenheit 9/11 for
consideration for the Best Documentary Oscar. If there is even
the remotest of chances that I can get this film seen by a few million

Conjurella DDT:
Cold War Warriors
Comic Book Truth
by T. Casey Brennan

Kepp on dreaming I sont become psycho case please.

-- Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan
who replaced Benazir Bhutto, on reading the notes for
Conjurella DDT, complete with his original spelling,
in an e-mail from Pakistan to T. Casey Brennan, on
January 3, 1998.

This is the story of the assassins. This is the story
of the cold war soldiers of AIDS. This is the story of
Conjurella DDT. This is the story of hope.

I said in Conjurella that I started school in
September of 1953. But I may have been a little late
that month. I know I was in the Yale, Michigan
hospital with asthma in September before either my
first of second year in school, I think both.

Mama and Daddy loved DDT. But Daddy hated farming. It
was sometime around then that we got rid of all the
cattle on our eighty acres of farmland in Emmett or
Avoca, we weren't sure which, because it was just out
in the country, and they'd change the postal address
on us.

But it was sometime around then, I think, before I
started school, that Mama and Daddy got into DDT. I
mean, really into it.

I was born on August 11, 1948, in a hospital in Port
Huron, Michigan. The doctor that delivered me was Dr.
Pollack, you know, like former Michigan State Senator
Lana Pollack. Later on, Mama and Daddy took me to the
railroad bridge in Beard's Hills on M-136, past Avoca,
going toward the highway that leads to Port Hope. That
was where Dr. Pollack tried to jump off, and kill
himself. He knew about MK-ULTRA. Mama said he said:

Oh, God, to bring a baby into the world to suffer so.
Oh God, to bring a baby into the world to do that.

And then he jumped. But he only broke both his legs.
He was never the same after that, they said.

After I wrote Conjurella, I remembered more about the
Old Covered Bridge meeting with David Ferrie.

After David Ferrie scared us, after they raped Aunt
Bonnie (I only made up the name Conjurella to call
her; she never called herself that), her daughter
Linda (I only made up the name Glinda to call her in
Conjurella, to make it like a fairy tale, a Ferrie
tale), says:

They're going to make us shoot John Kennedy.

That was how long they were after him.

And she did. I saw her.

After the voices, after they lifted me up, after I
initiated the firing that killed the President, they
led me groggily into the hall. And I saw that fleeting
glimpse of Linda once again.

David Ferrie had braced the rifle to the window. I
know that, because I threw myself to the floor after
firing the first shot. With the heel of my hand, I
tried to push the rifle out the window. I was willing
to die for her; I was willing to die for my secret
friend.

But this is the story of Conjurella DDT. This is the
story of the cold war soldiers.

Sometime in the early 1950s, Daddy got the idea that
the pine trees on our eighty acres had to live. He got
big cannisters of DDT, wirh sprayers on them. And then
he took me and Mama back to the woods with them.

I'm not sure David Ferrie wasn't involved. He said
tell all this if they killed him. I am.

I'm not sure how old David Ferrie was. I don't look in
any books before I write the Conjurella stuff; maybe
after, but never before. But I think he was an
assassin in World War II, maybe a child assassin, for
the O.S.S. I think I remember Aunt Bonnie saying
something about them, but I don't know any more.

Anyway, Daddy was worried about the pine trees dying
from these worms that got on them every year. There
were little worms on the pines, that lived in big
silken tents that looked like spider webs. Mama and
Daddy made me go back with them, with the DDT. I don't
know how many trips I took with them like that. My
eyes burned and wept blood, I wheezed and gasped, my
head was light, and all my skin hurt.

Finally, I said: Mama and Daddy, I can't stand any
more DDT. I can't go back to spray trees with DDT any
more.

And they didn't make me again. But that wasn't my last
exposure to DDT.

My cancer observations, too, may be 'out of
reckoning', but they have brought me safely through a
dark, uncharted water, where more than once my craft
has 'grazed the edge of foreign shores'.

-- Edna Kaehele, founder of the anti-cancer group,
Fear Fighters, in Living with Cancer, Doubleday
Company, Inc., 1952

The hardiest individualist I know...is Casey Brennan,
a three-year old friend from Avoca, Michigan.

-- Edna Kaehele, Training the Family Dog (Chapter
Seven), Lantern Press, 1953.

The O.S.S. was so bad, we should have fought with the
Nazis just to stop them. And I'm a Jew.

-- Conjurella

In 1953, after Linda told me what we'd have to do, I
said, Who is John Kennedy?

Little girls are always smarter than little boys. She
said: A Senator.

I asked What's a Senator?

I don't remember

It could spoil the whole scam of educational corporate greed to give away
higher education!

The MIT OpenCourseWare Update -- Vol. 2, Issue 9

President Vest of MIT told Charlie Rose that MIT's $100,000,000 OCW venture
would do what Michael Sayler of Microstrategy had failed to do. Michael
Sayler's goal was stated as that of providing an ivy-league quality
education to anyone in the world who wanted in and was qualified,
irrespective of ability to pay. So far MIT has not delivered and the comment
of a POC spokesman to David Diamond of Wired magazine stands: It is the
biggest boondoggle in educational history.

What we are starting with AI-TEACHING-MACHINE will do what MIT failed to
do, at least to the extent of one demonstration college level course. See
http://www.geocities.com/AI TEACHING MACHINE

The point is this: Unless you actually take the course materials to the
learning student, and apply them in a form from which the student can learn,
you have given nothing of educational value to the student. Free course
materials mean nothing without free courses.

For $100,000,000 MIT could and should be delivering FREE courseware
directly to the student. Can MIT graduates spell B-O-O-N-D-O-G-G-L-E?

Now if CNN wants to help global education, why not advertise POC's
educational offering as above? Netizens who just want to add 1,000+ words of
technospeak to their vocabulary are welcome to participate as well as
students planning a career in computing science. Keep up with
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and you will at least be a smarter
consumer and citizen of the new techno-democracy.

 1. 900 Courses Now Available

The MIT OpenCourseWare Team is pleased to announce that 200 more courses
have been published to bring the total number of courses available at
http://ocw.mit.edu to 900, 905 to be exact! This publication is very
significant as it represents the halfway mark to MIT's publicly stated goal
of 1800 courses published by 2008.

Today's publication represents a significant achievement for people across
the Institute who worked with the MIT OCW Team over the last six months,
including the MIT Libraries, MIT's department heads, and most importantly,
MIT's remarkable faculty. More than half of MIT's faculty -- 540 of 950 --
have now voluntarily participated in MIT OCW, and we know that MIT OCW would
not be succeeding were it not for the faculty's dedication to MIT's
institutional mission and belief in the promise of openly sharing their
materials through OpenCourseWare.

We are pleased to call your attention to the following new MIT courses.
When looking at the complete MIT OCW Course List, look for the red NEW to
indicate courses recently published:

Marc Cooper Red Baits Peter Camejo
By Alex Constantine

Marc Cooper -- the Nation-KPFK pundit who is forever scrutinizing the Left
for signs of communist influence to publicize and cluck his tongue over --
noted in a June 21 Internet posting, entitled Nader's Nadir, that Peter
Comejo, Ralph Nader's running mate, was, in the '60s, sponsored by the
Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party (SWP).

Even as he insists he¹s capable of peeling off substantial numbers of
disgruntled Republican voters, Cooper writes, Nader nevertheless tapped
Peter Camejo, a Green Party honcho with an exclusively leftist appeal, as
his VP choice today.

Peter Camejo, Cooper spat, has been a dusty fixture on the radical left for
literally decades. Back in the sixties, Camejo ran for president on the
ticket of the Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party. Camejo got 5% of the vote
as the 2002 Green Party candidate for California Governor. Last fall he ran
again in the recall election but by the end of the race was mostly polishing
the apples of doomed Democratic candidate Cruz Bustamante.

The rest of us recall that Peter Camejo was the sole voice of rationality in
the recent California governor's race. Nader couldn't have shown more
integrity in his selection of a running mate. Camejo spoke eloquently
against the war in Iraq, villified war profiteers and blind Pentagon
idealogues for sacrificing the lives and interests of the country in the
pursuit of illicit geopolitical and economic gains, while the other
candidates performed in an embarassing parade of whorish marionettes.

Indeed, in his youth, Peter Camejo's name was tied to the SWP. Cooper, who
echoes the Birchite rhetoric of the Cold War -- the Bureau claimed falsely
in 1975, before the Pike Commission, that the Socialist Workers' Party had
intimate ties with the Fourth International (Pike Report, p. 171) -- fails
to mention that the SWP was a very clean organization.

According to the Pike Report, published in 1977, the SWP has avoided
illegal and potentially violent confrontations with the authorities during
any sort of civil protest. Nevertheless, this had no apparent impact of 34
years of productive spying. Party members, Camejo told Pike's
investogator's, were even forbidden by the SWP to smoke marijuana.

The bureau had no incriminating information on Camejo or the Party
whatsoever (Pike, p. 172) -- despite tight surveillance of their activities.

The bureau apparently formulated a philosophy, in this case, to justify
their investigation, Pike's commission observed. Considerable resources
have been allocated to compound the error.

For instance, he FBI's Internal Security agents engaged in a massive
intelligence operation to undermine the SWP. Landlords and fellow employees
of SWP members were interviewed. The FBI, Pike reported, also maintained
intensive surveillance of most, if not all, of the SWP's 2500 members.

In their attempts to discredit the SWP, Hoover's agents engaged in tactics
that were undeniably as Stalinist. But Cooper has an axe to grind with an
organization that even Hoover found to be blameless, forcing the beefy,
criminalized director of the Bureau to render his groundless Fourth
International smear.

As Cooper himself notes, Camejo's past is obscure to most of us. But KPFK's
own Prince of Darkness has dredged it up, without elaboration, as if a
40-year-old alliance has the slightest bearing on the 2004 election race,
and somehow marginalizes Nader.

In his criticism of the running mate, he borrows the rhetoric of a David
Horowitz or Sean Hannity. Yet again, Cooper engages in Red baiting, and we
can only ponder his motives. No one else in the press is making an issue of
the candidate's Trotskyist past. Why does Cooper, who can find Camejo's
past ties, fail to point out Bush's ties to any number of

Of course, the idea that the world should be run by
secret societies went down particularly well
with...well, secret societies. Consequently, many of
them adopted Synarchist principles. In fact,
Saint-Yves' ideas transformed the esoteric underground
of Europe, particularly France. Some of the greatest

Saint-Yves, which is not surprising because
occultists, with their love of hierarchy, tend to be
naturally totalitarian and unegalitarian.

[CTRL] September 17th a day to remember......

2004-09-17 Thread William Bacon

Pay No Attention to This Day

by Harry Browne

 September 17, 2003

This day isn't important.

There are far more significant days in the year:

Labor Day, when we pretend to care about other people's jobs while
frolicking at the beach.

Election Day, when we pretend we're making a difference by voting.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Susan B. Anthony Day, when we pretend to
be politically correct.

Memorial Day, when we pretend that we live in a free country because of
all the people who were killed in the government's senseless wars.

Flag Day, when we pretend the government is America.

Veterans Day (formerly Armistice Day, when we pretended that World War I
made the world safe for democracy).

National Teachers Day, when we pretend our children are getting an
education.

Earth Day, when we pretend that making the government more powerful will
make the environment cleaner.

United Nations Day, when we pretend to believe all those inane statements
about world peace.

Today doesn't seem to come anywhere near those days in importance.

You see, today is supposed to be Constitution Day. And no one really
cares about the Constitution anymore.

 What It Was

The Constitution was supposed to spell out what government can do and
what it can't do. The government's few legal functions are listed in
Article 1, Section 8. It was a revolutionary document, in that no
government in history had ever had its duties and restrictions so
carefully defined.

Despite frequent violations of the Constitution by the government, the
document did its job reasonably well for the first hundred years - making
America the freest country in history.

As late as 1887, when Congress passed a bill providing federal relief to
drought-stricken Texas farmers, Grover Cleveland vetoed it, saying, I can
find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution.

But that was about the last gasp for limited, Constitutional government.
Because the Constitution wasn't self-enforcing, it depended on the good
intentions of politicians - something Thomas Jefferson specifically warned
against in 1798 when he said, In questions of power, then, let no more be
heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains
of the Constitution.

Michael Cloud put it more succinctly in recent years: The problem isn't
the abuse of power, it's the power to abuse. So long as the politicians
have the power, they'll abuse it. And the Constitution was intended to
prevent the politicians from getting the power to abuse.

 The Transformation

But by the end of the 1800s, too many Americans had lost their fear of
government and politicians. The introduction of government schools had
made it almost certain that most children would never learn the importance
of binding down government with the chains of the Constitution.

And so government was transformed in the public mind from a
necessary-but-dangerous evil into the great fiction, through which
everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else, as Frdric
Bastiat described it.

More and more, the Constitution became a political toy, to be tossed
about, invoked, ignored, or misrepresented - whatever suited a given
politician's agenda at any given moment.

The income tax amendment in 1913 hammered the final nail into the coffin
of limited, constitutional government. Now the politicians had not only
the authority, but also the unlimited revenue, to do whatever they wanted.
It seems very, very unlikely, for example, that Americans would have been
dragged into World War I if the government hadn't had the unlimited
revenue to finance it.

Even the Bill of Rights - which eliminates all ambiguity by spelling out
specific things the government may not do - was relegated to second place
behind the needs of politicians. By the first World War, the Supreme Court
had decided that the words Congress shall make no law... don't really
mean that Congress shall make no law... They mean only that the
government must have a compelling interest in doing something. Not
surprisingly, the government employees on the Court almost always decide
that the government does have a compelling interest.

Where Do We Go from Here?

Those conservatives who still care about the Constitution say that it
should be taught in the schools. As though government employees will
emphasize the original purpose of the Constitution in restraining
government. Instead, they'll give snap quizes on such weighty questions as
How many years in a Senator's term? or Who appoints the Supreme Court
justices?

If the American people are to learn the importance of limited,
Constitutional government, we have to teach them ourselves.

But people aren't interested in academic lectures on constitutional
government. They're far more interested in their own lives - and rightly
so.

That's why repealing the federal income tax is our best tool. We can offer
them the reward of never paying income tax again in

The US does not like losing wars. Vietnam would probably be a much happier
and wealthier country today if it had lost the Vietnam War.

Anan should talk about illegal wars. The UN has more blood on its hands
than any country despite its hypocritical rhetoric. Wasn't it the Belgians
who tore up their blue berets when they returned home after having their
comrades slaughtered by UN incomptency? Incompetency either feigned or
deliberate. What happened to General Dallaire, one of Canada's military
heros? The UN destroyed his mental health with its incompetency. Who could
tell what Blix was up to except for treachery? Blix/UN were responsible for
the misinformation which caused the Iraq War. The iffy statements they
kept issuing about WMDs would have made anybody doubt ... Bush and the CIA
did doubt. Then they acted. What else would Blix and the UN have expected?
Dallaire said to saturate Iraq with UN inspectors and that would prevent
war. But the UN and Blix had convinced Saddam that war was inevitable so
Iraq did not do the one thing which could have prevented war. The UN keeps
war and misery going. How else could pompous buffoons like Anan find
employment?

Now let's think like Dallaire on military strategy. In Rwanda he said,
First we put the people we are here to protect in safe places we can defend
for a while. He realized that the soccer stadiums of Rwanda would do the
job. Then we fight it out with the combatants and WIN, he said. The UN would
let him do neither.

OK, now in Iraq, the US could fight the war city-by-city. For each city
the citizens are first told they must leave for a safe place ... a UN tent
city. If they stay they will be treated as enemy combatants unless they are
hostages. Then the US military sends in tele-robotically controlled machines
to fight in the streets. When the US wins the city, the surrendering
soldiers are relocated to an internment camp prior to rehabilitation and
release. Also under UN control to assure humane treatment. The civilians
return to the city from the UN camp. The perimeter of the pacified city is
guarded by US military. And the war is taken to the next city.

Subject: [HumanRobotics] Pentagon seeks ideas to fight 'urban' wars

Pentagon seeks ideas to fight 'urban' wars
 By Jennifer Harper, Washington Times
 September 12, 2004

Urban-canyon flying vehicles, persistent staring reconnaissance and
perching machines may one day prove the weapons of choice among American
troops doing battle in dim city streets far from home.

That is, if someone comes up with a workable design.

A public call for ideas to help soldiers on the unpredictable, unorthodox
urban battlefield has been issued by the Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency, or DARPA -- the unabashedly inventive arm of the Defense
Department that specializes in revolutionary, high-payoff research,
according to its mission statement.

DARPA is looking for what it calls force multipliers in 11 separate
disciplines, seeking ways to bolster the smaller numbers of U.S. forces
commonly on patrol in the likes of Fallujah or Kabul.

The official solicitation offers a wish list of futuristic technology,
which includes devices that literally can see through walls or perhaps
spirit a soldier out of a hazardous position.

Systems of interest include capabilities to detect and characterize
personnel and equipment in severe urban clutter and through external and
internal building walls; flying/perching machines able to carry and operate
communications and sensor payloads; survivable urban-canyon flying
vehicles, the DARPA notice says.

An initial round of proposals already has arrived, said DARPA spokeswoman
Jan Walker. She would not comment on the nature of the offerings to date,
other than to note, We're very satisfied with what we've received so far.

The agency is prepared to offer initial grants ranging from $50,000 to
$400,000 to potential suppliers who think they have the right stuff for an
urban battlefield.

Some of the specifications from the DARPA notice sound like they're from
science fiction, but the agency considers them all emerging asymmetrical
warfare countermeasures.

Among other innovations, the group is keenly interested in sensor devices
that discriminate combatants from non-combatants, or detect the presence
of rocket-propelled grenades, crude improvised explosives or the odd weapons
of suicide fighters.

DARPA would like to see troops defeat their urban enemies with a minimal
disruption of the besieged

[VDARE.COM note: September 16 is Mexican Independence Day and it’s being celebrated in the United States, where a large chunk of the Mexican population lives. There are two things that you might want to know about. One is the Mexican Independence Day Voter Registration Drive that’s taking place in Watsonville, California. That is, they’re registering to vote in U.S. elections. The other is the Mexicans across the U.S. gathered at their local consulates and sang the somewhat bloodthirsty Mexican national anthem. Another missed opportunity for the Border Patrol!]
VDARE.COM congratulates Mexico on its Independence Day, September 16. We think the U.S. should have one too!
George W. Bush loves Mexicans. He never misses an opportunity to praise them by extolling their qualities of family values and hard work. One of his favorite campaign lines for Hispanic audiences is “Family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande.”
At least he doesn’t say “Rio Grande River.” Usually.
Typical is this radio address from May 5, 2001
“In the United States, I’m happy to say, we’re putting old fears and quarrels behind us. We know that we must protect the integrity of our border, yet we understand how that border can be viewed from the other side, as the gateway to better wages and a better life. I’ve often said that family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande. The best way to have a stable border is better opportunity in both our nations, opportunity built by trade and education and freedom.”
In fact, of course, it’s a typical overclass delusion that their Mexican servants have particularly strong family values.
And, while family values may not stop at the Rio Grande, the United States of America does.
A neutral observer would have to say that Bush simply prefers Mexicans to Americans. When there is a policy decision to be made that helps Mexicans to the detriment of Americans, George W. Bush consistently advances the Mexican agenda.
As our country’s leader, Bush should be our number one advocate and protector. But he listens to the beat of another drummer—one wearing a sombrero. Mexico has never had a stronger patron in the White House. He is the MexiChurian candidate.
Here’s an incomplete list of his thoughtful solicitude:
Bush offered up a full amnesty refrigerator amnesty policy in January, proposing that all “willing workers,” understood to be mostly Mexican, could be hooked up with “willing employers.” The idea was fuzzy on details like how such a monumentally bureaucratic program could be run effectively, or honestly. But Bush wants to come across as a big picture sort of guy, not bogged down in wonky minutiae.
—Bush has been gung ho for opening America’s highways to Mexican trucks even after the terrorist attacks—despite the obvious ease by which a largish nuke could be hauled from Mexico to anywhere in the United States. NAFTA trucking has been hanging around since the main trade agreement was passed in 1993, but Bill Clinton was convinced to postpone it by labor and groups like Public Citizen because of the threat to American trucking jobs and highway safety.
—Bush backed off from the proposed US-VISIT program, hailed last spring as a national security breakthrough because of its biometric identification (scanned fingerprints) for frequent border crossers, when el Presidente Fox complained about Mexican dignity being affronted by new ID procedures.
—Bush has made no effort to get Mexico to extradite killers and other serious criminals who have harmed Americans and escaped across the border. Mexico remains a sort of national park in which hundreds of thugs who would face capital punishment or life imprisonment in the U.S. can gambol freely.
—Bush supports Mexican illegal aliens receiving Social Security payments after working only six quarters.
—Bush has made no attempt to collect on Mexico’s water debt of 1.3 million acre-feet, which has severely burdened Texas farmers.
—Bush has pushed for the easily forged standard ID for illegal aliens, the Mexico-issued matricula card, to be more widely accepted for governmental and banking uses. Back in the Cold War, Washington’s favorite foreigners were Cubans, given the propaganda value of thousands of Hispanic boat people struggling to reach capitalism and apple pie—so dramatic on television. (Even today the Cubans retain at least one residual goody which other illegal aliens do not get—the “wet foot,

The shots of war

Cristina Kutz thinks the anthrax vaccinations that she and other troops
must undergo devastated her health. Her complaints are not unique, but doctors
don't back her up.By SUSAN ASCHOFF, Times Staff
WriterPublished September 17, 2004

RIVERVIEW - Cristina Kutz spends too many hours in these silent rooms with
the beige walls endemic to starter homes in the Tampa suburbs. She is
apprehensive about leaving. She fears her body will betray her.
She eats like an anorexic. Food turns on her, unleashing nausea and diarrhea.
She always is tired but cannot sleep. She takes almost a dozen pills, from
immunosuppressants to antidepressants, every day.
She used to be strong.
She was Senior Airman Cristina Kutz, who tracked dozens of Air Force pilots
and ground crew at Hurlburt Field in the Florida Panhandle, charting their
training and readiness for battle. Suddenly, the members of her squadron were no
longer rehearsing. They were ordered to the Middle East on the eve of the Iraq
war.
Before leaving, they prepared for an enemy they could not see: Viruses and
bacteria that Saddam Hussein threatened to unleash in lethal clouds upon the
battlefield. Kutz, like some 300,000 others ordered to the war zone, was
vaccinated against anthrax.
In the last decade, hundreds of troops insist the anthrax vaccine made them
sick. Hundreds more have refused the shots, risking court-martial. Medical
experts say it is safe. But the experts cannot definitively exempt the vaccine
for a host of health problems reported by servicemen and women. Kutz believes
the anthrax vaccinations ravaged her health, making her too weak to work, too
precariously well to venture out of her house most days.
She thinks the U.S. government discounts her concerns that the anthrax
vaccinations made her unfit to continue as one of its soldiers. That's an order
More than 1.2-million troops have received anthrax vaccinations since 1998.
In March, a year after the invasion of Iraq, the Department of Defense extended
anthrax vaccinations to troops bound for South Korea, in addition to those
deployed to the Middle East and Asia.
Some soldiers, citizens and congressmen questioned the need for the mandatory
vaccinations. Since the mid 1990s advocacy groups have urged the Defense
Department to stop them.
"The use of a vaccination which appears to have the potential for serious
health consequences for our troops in an effort to counter a threat that may not
exist seems to unnecessarily expose our troops to risk," wrote Sen. Jeff
Bingaman, D-New Mexico, in a letter to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
At least 400 troops have refused the shots. More than 100 have been
court-martialed for defying an order since mandatory vaccinations for
active-duty personnel and reservists resumed in 1998, according to government
documents and congressional hearings.
Hundreds more who got the vaccine blame it for chronic illnesses, from joint
and muscle pain to debilitating fatigue, leukemia to blindness.
"There's no question the symptoms are real, but there's no scientific
connection to anthrax (vaccine)," says Dr. Richard Lockey, director of the
University of South Florida's division of Allergy Clinical Immunology.
"For the troops, we want them protected," says Col. John Grabenstein, deputy
director for military vaccines for the Army's surgeon general. "We can't protect
against artillery fire, but we can do this."Maybe it's the food
On Nov. 15, 2002, two months before traveling to the Middle East, Kutz
received her first anthrax vaccination.
She read warnings on the Internet that the shots were unsafe.
"I remember wondering, "Why would these wusses refuse the vaccine?' I
remember our commander telling us not to be babies."
Looking back, the now 23-year-old Kutz finds omissions that give her
pause.
They received no briefing on health issues.
There was no distribution of package inserts, which list dozens of possible
side effects, from minor swelling to death.
The needle burned into her upper right arm. The next day, the site was sore
and swollen, with a lump the size of a golf ball, Kutz says.
She was nauseous. Her head ached. The flulike symptoms disappeared in a week
but the golf ball remained. On Dec. 13, she got a second shot in her left arm.
No rash this time, but the same lump. Her stomach ached. She vomited. She
suffered with diarrhea marked by mucus and blood, and heavy menstrual
bleeding.
Kutz decided she should get no more shots. But an incomplete series - the
schedule calls for three anthrax vaccinations in one to two months and three
more within 18 months - would mean she could not deploy. She received the third
vaccination on Jan. 22, 2003.
By February, the 15th Special Operations Squadron was overseas at a hastily

REPORT SHOWS BUSH NEGLECTING HUNT FOR AL QAEDA

In the months after the 9/11 attacks, President Bush
promised America
he
would make the hunt for al Qaeda the number one
objective of his
administration. [We] do everything we can to chase
[al Qaeda] down and
bring them to justice, Bush said. That's a key
priority, obviously,
for me
and my administration.[1] But according to a new
report, the President
has
dangerously underfunded and understaffed the
intelligence unit charged
with
tracking down al Qaeda's leader.

The New York Times reports Three years after the
Sept. 11 attacks on
New
York and the Pentagon, the Central Intelligence Agency
has fewer
experienced
case officers assigned to its headquarters unit
dealing with Osama bin
Laden
than it did at the time of the attacks. The bin Laden
unit is
stretched so
thin that it relies on inexperienced officers rotated
in and out every
60 to
90 days, and they leave before they know enough to be
able to perform
any
meaningful work.[2]

The revelation comes months after the Associated Press
reported the
Bush
Treasury Department has assigned five times as many
agents to
investigate
Cuban embargo violations as it has to track Osama bin
Laden's
financial
infrastructure.[3] It also comes after USA Today
reported that the
President
shifted resources from the bin Laden hunt to the war
in Iraq in 2002.
Specifically, Bush moved special forces tracking al
Qaeda out of
Afghanistan
and into Iraq war preparations. He also left the CIA
stretched badly
in its
capacity to collect, translate and analyze information
coming from
Afghanistan.[4] That has allowed these terrorists to
regroup:
according to
the senior intelligence officials in July of this
year, bin Laden and
other
top al Qaeda leaders are now directing a plot to
carry out a
large-scale
terror attack against the United States and are
overseeing the plan
from
their remote hideouts somewhere along the
Afghanistan-Pakistan
border.[5]
