-Caveat Lector- To the person who wanted to curtail the number of individual posts: I don't see the difference in having more posts than you can read and not having them in the first place. At least in the first case, you have the potential of reading them sometime. Also, it helps people who are trying to collect data on a specific topic for a larger research project. CTRL serves that function in addition to being one of the best places to conspiracy net chat. I'm in LA next week for the BookExpo and a lecture at the Midnight Special book store (see http://www.umsl.edu/~skthoma for details). I hope some CTRL readers come by to press flesh. I'll need to power down from here for the time, though, so as not to crash my e-mail reader. I know I lurk more than post, but in case anyone notices my absence, there's the reason. Before I go, though, I want to point out this new book from the University of Minnesota Press, Conspiracy Theories, Secrecy and Power in American Culture by Mark Fenster. It's not a total diss as one might expect from the academy, although the utterly discredited Gerald Posner is quoted on the back cover. You can get the flavor from this quote: "Steamshovel Press editor/publisher Kenn Thomas has written several articles and a book that make bold and fanciful connections beyond the already extraoridinary ones covered in the more mainstream press." Fenster concludes that "conspiracy theory ultimately fails as a political and cultural practice. It...fails to inform us how to move from the end of an uncovered plot to the beginning of a political movement," as if that is truly what he or the other armchair academics want. (Gerald Posner, revolutionary. Yeah, right.) I hope that whatever career path Mr. Fenster has followed, teaching or law (Ph.D. from U. of Illinois and Yale law degree), that on some he level he really picked up more from his encounter with the conspiracy research community. CTRLers are a bottomless fount of information and revelations per minute, a vital group of performing philosophers who advance human understanding far better than the tired rhetoric of phony idealism. It would be helpful to Fenster to see it that way, whether he's tackling conspiratorial machinations in some university department's tenure track or prosecuting/defending conspiracy in the court. -Caveat Lector- Mae Brussell, died in three weeks of a fast-acting cancer in Carmel, California at the age of 66, on October 3, 1988. She had just left her radio show of 17 years after receiving a death threat and having her home broken into. (Radio talk show host Art Bell followed a similar pattern, dropping out of his program after receiving a still unidentified threat. He returned in two weeks, however. Mae Brussell never came back.) At the time, Brussell had taught the only accredited course on conspiracy in the country, was listed in the International Who's Who of Intellectuals and had just received the George Seldes Award from the American Society of Journalists, bringing a whole new level of credibility to parapolitical research. Medical officials have confirmed that the bronchial pneumonia that caused Tia's death was brought on by a streptococcus group A bacterial infection in her blood, said Dr. Carolyn Bird, director of the Oakland County Health Department. While invasive strep A infections of the bloodstream are uncommon, they can be dangerous. They can attack lungs, bones, joints and the brain, said Dr. Basim Asmar, director of the division of Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. The infection is contagious. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta reports between 10,000 and 15,000 invasive strep A cases a year in the United States, with 2,000 deaths. Tia was a fourth-grader at West Maple Elementary School in Bloomfield Hills, where Birmingham public school officials Tuesday sent a letter home to parents assuring them that "no other cases have been reported in the school district." Bird said county health officials are monitoring Birmingham schools for signs of other invasive strep A cases. The school letter warns that parents should seek medical treatment if they "notice fever, sore throat or other respiratory symptoms in their children." Strep normally is treated with penicillin, Asmar said. There were fewer cases of invasive strep A in southeast Michigan this winter. Between Jan. 1 and March 5, there were 17 cases of invasive strep A reported in the counties of Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne. That was less than half of the 37 cases in 1998 and 38 cases in 1998 for the same period, said Dr. Donald Lawrenchuk, director of the Wayne County Health Department. Sometimes a person with strep throat or impetigo, a strep skin infection, may infect themselves, Bird said. Cuts, wounds or chicken pox sores can provide strep bacteria with an open door to the normally protected bloodstream. In the past 10 years, about 40 cases of invasive strep A have been successfully treated at Children's Hospital, Asmar said. People with cancer, diabetes or kidney disease or those who take steroids are more likely to have an invasive infection, the CDC said. "We emphasize hand-washing and use of Kleenex when you're coughing and sneezing," Bird said. The problem of the Khazar infusion a thousand years ago, however fascinating, is irrelevant to modern Israel. The Jews who inhabit it, regardless of their chequered origins, possess the essential requirements of a nation: a country of their own, a common language, government and army. The Jews of the Diaspora have none of these requirements of nationhood. What sets them apart as a special category from the Gentiles amidst whom they live is their declared religion, whether they practise it or not. Here lies the basic difference between Israelis and Jews of the Diaspora. The former have acquired a national identity; the latter are labelled as Jews only by their religion - not by their nationality, not by their race. This, however, creates a tragic paradox, because the Jewish religion - unlike Christianity, Buddhism or Islam - implies membership of a historical nation, a chosen race. All Jewish festivals commemorate events in national history: the exodus from Egypt, the Maccabean revolt, the death of the oppressor Haman, the destruction of the Temple. The Old Testament is first and foremost the narrative of a nation's history; it gave monotheism to the world, yet its credo is tribal rather than universal. Every prayer and ritual observance proclaims membership of an ancient race, which automatically separates the Jew from the racial and historic past of the people in whose midst he lives. The Jewish faith, as shown by 2ooo years of tragic history, is nation- ally and socially self-segregating. It sets the Jew apart and invites his being set apart. It automatically creates physical and cultural ghettoes. It transformed the Jews of the Diaspora into a pseudo- nation without any of the attributes and privileges of nationhood, held together loosely by a system of traditional beliefs based on racial and historical premisses which turn out to be illusory. Orthodox jewry is a vanishing minority. Its stronghold was Eastern Europe where the Nazi fury reached its peak and wiped them almost completely off the face of the earth. Its scattered survivors in the Western world no longer carry much influence, while the bulk of the orthodox communities of North Africa, the Yemen, Syria and Iraq emigrated to Israel. Thus orthodox Judaism in the Diaspora is dying out, and it is the vast majority of enlightened or agnostic Jews who perpetuate the paradox by loyally clinging to their pseudo-national status in the belief that it is their duty to preserve the Jewish tradition. It is, however, not easy to define what the term 'Jewish tradition' signifies in the eyes of this enlightened majority, who reject the Chosen-Race doctrine of orthodoxy. That doctrine apart, the universal messages of the Old Testament - the enthrone- ment of the one and invisible God, the Ten Commandments, the ethos of the Hebrew prophets, the Proverbs and Psalms - have entered into the mainstream of the judeo-Helenic-Christian tradition and become the common property ofjew and Gentile alike. No less unusual source than Patch Adams, the maverick psychologist who became the subject of a 1998 Robin Williams movie directed by Tom Shadyac, talked at length about it. Adams has been a friend of the Finders for 25 years, working almost as the group's personal physician. An unconventional and controversial figure in the medical world himself, Adams affirmed that he has found no instance of child abuse among the Finders. He dismissed the notion that the group included pedophiles and characterized it instead as one of "over-educated" eccentrics presenting an alternative to social norms. Adams told a reporter at the Rappahannock News that "I'm embarrassed for the news media . They really made a mistake here. I can see a giant legal case coming out of this." Of the pedophilia charges, Adams said, "That's a bunch of crap!" , noting that boy and girl scout camps contain the same rings of stone Washington police found in the backyard of the Finders' Washington residence. -Caveat Lector- President Clinton launched the attack to cripple Saddam's WMD capability. Saddam had placed so many restrictions on UNSCOM that UNSCOM left Iraq. Therefore, there was no longer any surveillance of Saddam's WMD development status. However, the final UNSCOM report stated that Iraq was proceeding as fast as it could given the presence of UNSCOM. The UNSCOM inspectors were mapping out the target areas that are now being hit in Iraq--that's why Saddam wanted them out of there. Since Iraq could develop a serious arsenal in just a few months, President Clinton had to move fairly fast.Then why didn't he move before? Since it would be awkward to start the bombing during Ramadan, the JCS advised him to act now. How is going to be able to call off this massive attack in less than a week and for the entire month of Ramadan? The brouhaha about the timing is just more Republican hysteria. Anyway, it is not a big deal to put off the impeachment (coup d'etat) vote for another few weeks. As with the African embassy bombings, the domestic issue actually detracts from the foreign policy issue. Who believes for a minute that this spin about the "WMD" has anything to do with this? It's about oil and keeping a US military presence in the region. The WMDs of the rest of the world don't bother the US. -Caveat Lector- anti-Clinton is verboten. I have not posted anything pro-Clinton. His sell-out to the Chinese was more than a crime against the US, it was one against the world. The threat of the military satellite hardware he sold to the Chinese for the sake of donations to the Democrats apparently was the real reason behind India's nuclear blasts. It does, however, fall into the category of the October Surprise, where traitorous Reagan made a deal with enemy Iran in order to steal the election from Carter. We know he did it, but we can't prove it, and he will never be held accountable for it. He even repeated the pattern with Iran-contra and yet people still regard him as honorable. "Conservative" to me means a strict interpretation of the Constitution... something both parties ignore. Selective use of laws allows the media to be controlled. Corporations should have their power taken away by revoking their charters for bribing officials and officials can be recalled for accepting bribes. Clinton takes bribes even from foreign countries hostile to the US such as Communist China... do you deny that also? Clinton has been up front in acknowledging that presidential power does not come from the Constitution but from secret ruling elites, who work for transnational corporate interests. This is the basic premise of Carroll Quigley's Tragedy and Hope, and Clinton regarded Quigley as his mentor at Georgetown, quoted him at the Democratic con. Secret elites and corporatism have not ordinarily been defined as the "left." Again trying to change the subject. Reagan and Bush are no longer in office, you cannot impeach them. However, if Clinton is impeached for his drug involvement and bribe taking... this may open the door for cleaning out all of Congress to include the "Evil Republicans" why can't you see that? I'm with you on this, Bob. Impeach the son of a bitch. In fact, as Christopher Hitchens (a "leftist") says, cuff him and take him downtown. But it's not gonna happen. Clinton has the same protection as his pals Reagan and Bush. Bush may have talked about the NWO, but Clinton is ushering it in with a red carpet, our money, and soon our blood. -Caveat Lector- Is there anything else that you have come across recently that is fodder for discussion here? A few things: (1) The discussion about mind control and the JFK assassination seems to be leaving out what is said in the 1968 book Were We Controlled. I put together an edition of that book with updated info, photos and biblio (Mind Control, Oswald and JFK). There are, of course, various forms of mind control, and historical sources reflect that Oswald may have been connected to two, the RHIC/EDOM of Were We Controlled and the LSD variety. Just thought I'd throw that in to see if it adds anything to this discussion about occult mind control and the assassination. Were We Controlled points out that the implant mind control technology (RHIC/EDOM) was already 30 years old in 1963. The Russians had been developing it since the 1930s. One resistance to this line of thought is that Jose DelGado, who developed the technology, was only shown stopping a bull with an implant/stimoceiver device, not causing it to pick up and shoot a rifle. So what if it was used to stop Oswald? We have photos of someone (possibly Lansdale) walking south as the tramps are walking north, with a radio control device behind his ear. There's another radio controller next to umbrella man by the Stemmons freeway sign. This could be radio telecommunications, but it could also be stimoceiver instructions to turn off some of the gunmen when the best shots had already been taken. (2) Has anyone seen the current issue of Nation? Max Holland, a U of Virginia academic who writing a history of the Warren Commission, reviews the new spate of JFK books. It's really a sad commentary that this kind of writing is passed off as "leftist" critique. Here's a quote: "[The Warren Commission] staffers were highly motivated to crack the case presented to them, not to mention prove the Dallas Police Department and the FBI wrong if they possibly could." How can anyone possibly believe that? Where in the history of government investigations has one government agency set out to upset or disprove the finding of another? Other things, like sympathy for poor, sensitive CIA/Permindex/transnational spy Clay Shaw, whose connections were successfully covered up until after Garrison's prosecution. Shaw wrote a "searing" diary; never mind that Victor Marchetti reported and Richard Helms confessed to Shaw's connection long after it could do any good. It's infuriating. I can handle books I disagree with, especially if they offer new particulars, like the new one by Gus Russo and the Mary Pinchot Meyer biography by Nina Burleigh (did you know that Meyer had Reichian therapy? Also, the book takes a swipe at Steamshovel), but Holland's article is a clear example of mind control in academia. (3) I'd like to correct the following from Parascope, which I saw when I connected to CTRL again: Because of the erratic nature of the Garrison investigation, many DAs and police authorities around the country tacitly refused to honor his subpoenas. In 1978, Garrison told the House Select Committee on Assassinations that his staff had once spent four hours interviewing Fred Crisman, but as far as I know, he was never compelled to travel to New Orleans or testify on the record. His alleged role in the JFK assassination, like his alleged dero and UFO sightings, remains purely speculative. The "police authorities" mentioned here include Ronald Reagan, who refused to extradict Clay Shaw's co-defendant in the case, Edgar Eugene Bradley. That basically cut the case in half for ol' erratic Jim. Garrison did fly Crisman to New Orleans and took testimony. In fact, Crisman tried to get more money out of Garrison to fly his lawyer in as well. Garrison paid Crisman $500 for his expenses, and agreed to pay the lawyer's expenses but later reneged. Crisman's testimony did not come in with the other documents I got through FOIPA, but other documents do show that this took place. Is Steamshovel back in production yet? Yes. Issue #16 has been out for a while and I expect to start working on the next one soon. The finances are still shaky from the Fine Print distribution bankruptcy disaster, but the hard copy magazine is back in business. Of course, the web site is still there and gets changed fairly regularly.
