When I was a kid in the early 70's we used to exclude the words "under god" in the Pledge and I've got to say, I like that far better. Kind of like adding the "in god we trust" on our money in the 1950's I guess. We as a nation seemed to do just fine before adding those words...better in many regards actually.
Oh well...just my $0.02.
"I pledge Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to
the REPUBLIC for which it stands, one Nation, indivisible, with
liberty and justice for all."
Bill.
I don't know why you would have excluded the words, "under God," if our Congress had bumbled around and added them. They had never been a part of the pledge for many, many successful years. Any time a nation starts telling folks that God is on their side, I get nervous. We won World War II without the "under God," and we lost the "conflict" in Vietnam with it. I don't know just when America started pushing this "God" thing. There's something about watching Billy Graham wearing a $2,000 suit and preaching Christ that boggles the mind. It gets even worse when his boorish and clearly ignorant son takes up the cause in order to inherit his father's empire. As far as "under God," it appears that stating the obvious has become an important part of American culture. Prudy
