Well, it's a major story here in Connecticut...

Keep in mind that Giordano is just a mayor of a relatively minor city, so
he's hardly a national figure...

But more important aspect is the fact that the feds still have the
information against Giordano sealed and won't reveal the extent of the
charges and allegations against him...the only thing that is known is
that the sexual perversion thing was uncovered as part of the probe into
the extensive corruption of the city government...

I can tell you that the local black community is totally outraged over
this, and isn't happy that it's not being reported more widely...


Giordano, a married father of three, has been in federal custody since his
arrest July 26

And held incommunicado since then...the feds won't allow anyone except
his attorney to have contact with him...

ROCKY HILL, Conn. (September 10, 2001 6:02 p.m. EDT) - The mayor of
Waterbury, Conn., who is already in jail on federal child sex charges, faces
state charges as well after an arrest warrant was issued Monday.

The warrant charges Philip Giordano, 38, with six counts each of sexual
assault, risk of injury to a minor and conspiracy. Waterbury State's Attorney
John Connelly said the warrant had been sent to federal marshals.

Giordano, a married father of three, has been in federal custody since his
arrest July 26 on charges of using an interstate facility - such as a
telephone or computer - to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity and
conspiracy. The alleged victims are two female cousins, ages 9 and 11.

Giordano, a Republican serving his third, two-year term, agreed in August to
surrender the power and duties of mayor, although he will retain the title
until his term expires Dec. 31.

He ran unsuccessfully last year for the seat held by U.S. Sen. Joseph
Lieberman, D-Conn.

Federal authorities learned of the alleged sexual assaults while
investigating broader allegations of municipal corruption in Waterbury.

Connelly said a second arrest was expected in the near future. He gave no
other details.
