Okay, imagine that same bomb going off in the middle of Manhattan,
Chicago, Los Angeles, any big major city with plenty of skyscrapers
crammed in together...

A bomb with a one mile radius would cause LOADS of radioactive fallout,
as the pulverized remains of those skyscrapers (concrete dust, metal
dust, pulverized contents of those skyscrapers) would all be
irradiated...that dust would then filter down elsewhere, spreading the
radiation...

I was thinking about other nations that in the area that might have acquired a
small nuclear weapon. Oslama bin Laden may have made quite a lot by
shorting certain stocks before the attack. If he can collect this he might be
able to buy one. Iraq is another possibility. You are aware of course that both
Pakistan and India have tested nuclear weapons successfully.

US introducing nuclear weapons to the area would clearly lead to more
violence and retaliations.

My take on this is, if Bin Laden had them, he would use them. Nukes need to
be used to be effective.
I know, you are going to say that just the threat of having them would be
enough. That works for the super powers. Bin Laden is not a super power and
he wants to distroy the western world. And the only way he can do that is to
do as much damage as possible, i.e., use nukes.

Paul,

I didn't say nor did I mean to imply that they would not be used. I merely
was refuting the fallacious idea that this could escalate into full scale
thermonuclear war.

screeds are unwelcomed. Substance—not soap-boxing—please! These are

major and minor effects spread throughout the spectrum of time and thought.
That being said, CTRLgives no endorsement to the validity of posts, and
always suggests to readers; be wary of what you read. CTRL gives no
credence to Holocaust denial and nazi's need not apply.
