I'll tell you exactly what Mellor's (spit) attitude will be. He
will see it as being perfectly acceptable to shoot anyone
you want, on sight at the slightest provocation, yet he will
balk at the very idea of anyone being allowed to keep
anything what so ever for defence, regardless of how
lethal (or not) it may be. He's a total hypocrite and I
sincerely hope he gets his House turned over in the near
future, at least then he'll be able to speak from personal
experience.

He's a total tosser.

Shame Tony didn't use a handgun really, wonder what Mellor
would say then.

2001-01-05 Thread Jeff Wood

From: "Jeff Wood", [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Anthony quoted:

"Somebody defined rightists as those who want to be ruled by daddy - who
will
tell them what is what, and punish them when they're naughty - while
leftists
want to be ruled by mummy - who will feed them their medicine, wipe their
bottoms, and tuck them up in bed at night."

Not bad at all I think. I suppose the point is that a real adult becomes
their own mother and father both as far as possible. A good start to the
process is teaching one's children to shoot: the safe handling of firearms
is one of the few adult responsibilities with which a youngster can be
entrusted. Perhaps this was one of the reasons the antis got stuck into Kate
Hoey. No 10 has joined in, and I predict she gets the hemlock to drink soon
after the next election.

While I'm here, may I thank those who helped me out on the King's African
Rifles, both on-list and privately. You cleared up some obscure points. Am I
right in my belief that to have fought in France in WW1, the ancestor must
have transferred out to another regiment?

Or as the late George Carmen has been quoted as saying...

Mr. Mellor was like an ostrich, burying his head in the sand and thus

The fact remains, and we are still not doing enough to continually point it
out day after day, that if Tony Martin had been allowed legally to possess
in his home non-lethal weapons of defence such as an electric baton or a CS
spray then one young man might not be dead and one old man not in prison.
Perhaps those who read "The People" could write to Mellor and ask him if he
agrees?

2001-01-04 Thread anthonyhar

<< A cohesive society can accommodate right left and centre, as long as the
common concern is liberty. >> suggests Jeff Wood. I think the word "liberty"
is the key one, indeed it is difficult to see how any gun-rights-enthusiast
could describe himself as being especially left or right-wing, since both
options entail a high degree of prescription. And as soon as you accept such
a thing, you have inevitably to accept the possibility of severe curtailments
of your personal liberty, including the liberty - surely a natural and
inalienable one - to own whatever weapons you consider necessary or desirable.
Somebody defined rightists as those who want to be ruled by daddy - who will
tell them what is what, and punish them when they're naughty - while leftists
want to be ruled by mummy - who will feed them their medicine, wipe their
bottoms, and tuck them up in bed at night.
I think this sums it up. Most of our fellow citizens are wholly wedded to
mummy or daddy, and might (if they read The People) send a Christmas card to
poor old Tony Martin, but would at the same time be terrified at the prospect
of actually looking after themselves - let alone using a gun to defend
themselves against violent intruders.
BTW re. Jeff's mention of fantasists, some years ago I belonged to an
organisation which included a bloke from Kent who for some bizarre reason had
adopted an Australian persona and swaggered about in one of those stockmen's
coats. He was a nice bloke actually, but we used to wonder who he thought he
was kidding; and when he called upon a friend of mine, he apparently embarked
upon such a ludicrously improbable account of serving with Aussie Special
Forces in Vietnam (being captured and tortured by the VC, etc) that my friend
and his wife had to make occasional excuses to leave the room in order to
fall about with laughter in the kitchen!
