Solution found for SSHD problem posted on 6/27/2012
Hello! Two days ago I posted a problem report regarding not being able to get the SSHD daemon properly started on this normal installation. I even provided a collection of almost meaningful information regarding my problem. I then prepared to wait until resubmitting that problem report, with more meaningful information. Today whilst watching the computer retrieve the many years of accumulated e-mail via Google I came across a thread concerning a similar problem. The concluding message in that thread dated 11/23/2009 contained the exact instructions on how to fix the problem, and get the server properly started. It worked. It turned out that one of the messages in that thread contained the exact nature of the problem and the information the user (then) found, and reported. It turned out to be the same as mine including the build number of this release of Windows Seven. Suggesting an application
Hello from Gregg C Levine This is probably the wrong Cygwin list for bringing this up, but For my work I need to have the tcpdump application running. That's usually part of all Linux distributions, including my favorite one. But I've noticed it's not part of the Cygwin collection. Of course I can grab the sources from that distribution and build it here, but what about adding it to the next great release of Cygwin? --- Gregg C Levine landocalrissian atsign att dot net "This signature prefers to fly X-Wings." -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/
RE: WindowsCVS Client
Hello from Gregg C Levine Two questions: One, whose "Windows CVS Client" are you using? Is it the GUI based one that's described somewhere on the home page for CVS? Two, what is your error message? Please post the full error message. Also, most CVS clients for Linux, anyway, need to have a .cvspass file created in the user's $Home directory, since I work as the root user, (which normally you, or I, should not do), that may be needed. Now folks, if I spoke out of turn here, please don't complain on list, please do so off list. And incidentally please not my intentions behind obscuring the addresses, especially the list. ------- Gregg C Levine [EMAIL PROTECTED] "The Force will be with you...Always." Hello from Gregg C Levine Can I use the tools of Cygwin for building Embedded Linux for the SH4 processor that the Dreamcast uses? Hello from Gregg C Levine Actually Gary, its called SP2 RC1, for XP. Its going through that phase, with SP1 RC2 due out towards the end of the month, and the actual SP2 going to the RTM phase so that its in time to be released by the 21 July, date. (If you can believe that.) Also, can you tell me, off list, where you got your copy? I was at an OEM meeting for that guy's operating system, yesterday. The meeting was held here in NYC. Improper or badly managed non-US Mirror
Hello from Gregg C Levine This is probably the wrong venue for this complaint, but here goes. I have just started a download, and install, of the current Cygwin setup. I needed to restart, and pick a different mirror, after the Planet Mirror one, unexpectedly canceled my activities. I believe that mirror should be reorganized, and the methods that the mirror uses to send files, to users should be changed. Problems with mirror sites
Hello from Gregg C Levine Chris, can you contact the manager of the mirror site for Cygwin, that's hosted at http://mirror.rcn.net ? And the one at http://planetmirror.com ? For the first one, it has a nasty habit of not allowing me to complete a download, at normal dialup speeds. For the second one, it has a bad habit of taking six to ten times as long, as all of the other mirror sites I've used. I am allowing for the usual problems of massive downloads over a http link, but for RCN's hardware, I think there is something wrong with them. Planetmirror just has more issues then we do as people. I just would like you to speak to them, regarding those issues. And you can see the reasons, regarding my complaints regarding RCN. Hello from Gregg C Levine Folks, don't roar at me, but I am seeing a number of messages arrive here, infected. One came with a message via Robert Collins, twice, another from a message that was discussing the problems with Cygwin's DLL version's and the way the POSIX layer does its job, within the host's OS. The thing is, they are all coming via Earthlink, and its cronies, so I think its one infected machine. Gary, if you really meant to send that message, you'll know which one I mean, please repost it. New version of Xfree is available
Hello from Gregg C Levine There is a newer version of Xfree available. Currently I do not see a pre-built binary for Cygwin, on the mirror that I use for specific binaries, so I am asking here about that. The version number now, is 4.2.1 and it fixes a security violation. Should I bring this to the attention of the folks on the Cygwin-Xfree list? Gregg C Levine [EMAIL PROTECTED] "Oh my!" Hello from Gregg C Levine Can I cross compile the binaries for, say, GNUMach for the Hurd, using Cygwin? Hello from Gregg C Levine Agreed. No arguement there, or here. But for what I'm doing, and for the work, that I installed Cygwin for, its, ah, necessary I'll probably end up with going to ssh for one. I don't need to install an ftp client on the target. Bootp servers under Cygwin
Hello from Gregg C Levine Has anyone gotten a bootp server to work under Cygwin? It seems I now need just such a service. I've downloaded the original code from UU Net's site. It is stored in the Usenet's archive of volumne 27. However, when I try to compile it here, it discovers that my header collection is missing two specific header files. Has anyone found a work around for this? And then gotten it to work? I'd be delighted in finding out, and then obtaining either the source code, or the binaries, or both. Reporting a few bugs--rxvt is not properly configured and man does not work nor does info
Hello from Gregg C Levine I just finished installing the current collection of Cygwin items. However, since I selected to install rxvt, I decided to use that, rather then the regular bash shell. Instead of getting the terminal screen that I used to finding on all Linux systems, I get garbage. The prompt is not showing, and when I try to run man to find out how to configure it, man goes crunch with a complaint that there is not a man page for it. It even complains about a formatting error, and displays a long line of untransferrable garbage. It gets worse, when I try to use info to see if there is an info page or pages on that subject, it goes "clunk", and says something about "dir not being present". Also, when I go directly to the info directory, and try info , it does not read the file, it simply dies again. That problem with rxvt happened twice, now when I try and launch it, it closes. No error message on the bash shell, just the sound that my computer uses when he closes a program. I do wish I could have present these bugs, in a format that would be considered useful, but I am rather new at this, having returned to using the toolchain after a rather long vacation. ------- Gregg C Levine [EMAIL PROTECTED] "The Force will be with you...Always."
