There's your answer; you need to get these libraries from the distro.

RE: 'no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH' error message on install

Jaroslav Rynik wrote:
when I wanted to install, the program with cygwin (using package for

This list is for X related questions only, setting the follow-up address
to the main cygwin list.

However, I have installed cygwin directly from web not unsellecting any
option, so the instalation should be complete. The program is
 installed in D:\pokus\cygwin directory.

Only a limited set of packages is installed by default. You have to
manually select the compiler(s) and other development tools. Just re-run
setup.exe and select the appropriate gcc packages.

To keep track all the steps I made, I send the picture of 3 screenshot
showing all I have done until the error message appeared. I also attach
the log file made by cygwin after the action.

If you need any further information, feel welcome to let me know.

It would have been better if you had followed the instructions in this
link:

 Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html

In particular, note the part about *attaching* the output from running
cygcheck -svr. That would let us know which packages were actually
installed.

If re-running setup doesn't solve your problem, then that attachment
would be very useful.

Don't understand error message re font path element

2008-09-22 Thread Hedley Finger

I installed all packages in the latest version of Cygwin (1.5.25-15).
But, when I tried to execute startxwin.sh (and also startxwin.bat), an
error occurred and the log listed below was saved to XWin.log. In the
/tmp/ directory there was also a .X11-unix directory, containing an X0
file in which there was this string: !socket 4975 s
479BE23F-5B2EC25A-717046AF-254E77EA (terminated by a NULL).

The directories

... /fonts/TTF/
... /fonts/Type1/
... /fonts/CID/
... /fonts/100dpi/

were not present in the original Cygwin installation, so I added them
and attempted to start the Xwindow again, but with the same result.

See error dialogue at http://imagebin.ca/view/UKy9Kos6.html. See
console interaction at http://imagebin.ca/view/EvImbjKA.html.

This is a very common question here. You could have googled for

cygwin could not open default font 'fixed'

and you would have found
http://x.cygwin.com/docs/faq/cygwin-x-faq.html#q-error-font-eof

If you have chosen DOS line endings during setup, then deleting and
reinstalling cygwin is the best way.

Good luck,

Check if /tmp/XWin.log exists. If so it probably has the wrong owner, so
delete it.

I have space in the path too and had no problems with the xorg-x11-base.csh

You haven't given enough context in that script to determine why that
line was problematic and I don't have a Cygwin install in front of me,
so I can't check.
To me that line looks fine as it was, however the purpose of the eval
was not obvious. I think that statement would be better without the
eval at all.
I notice that one directory in your PATH contains a space (c:\Program
Files\Common Files\MDL Shared\ISIS). If you examine your output from
cygcheck you will see that something weird is happening.
My guess is that at least one script in profile.d isn't handling
directories with spaces properly. They really should be rewritten to
use the $path variable instead ($path is an array, $PATH is a scalar) or
to explicitly set IFS and use proper quoting.

It's not an error. It's a warning. By default the xserver is not setup to
use the authentication cookies. ssh normally uses these cookies. But if none
is set, ssh will print this warning

Re: error message at startup of xfig

2002-07-30 Thread Pierre A. Humblet

Hello,[please cc: me, I am not subscribed]

I am getting complaints of from users of the pre-compiled xfig
about app-defaults not being found.
The list contains mails about this issue, e.g.
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin-xfree/2002-07/msg00537.html
but I don't get the big picture.

It used to be that /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults was a link
to /etc/X11/app-defaults
Looking at it now after a recent install of X11 I see:

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11 ls -ld app-defaults*
drwxrwxrwx2 PHumblet Domain U0 Jul 1 17:33 app-defaults/
drwxrwxrwx2 PHumblet Domain U0 Jul 1 17:33 app-defaults/

!!! This is explained by:

 Directory of E:\usr\X11R6\lib\X11
07/01/02 05:33pDIR app-defaults
07/17/01 02:26p 148 app-defaults.lnk (to E:\etc\X11\app-defaults)

and

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11 ls -ld app-defaults*/*
-rwxrwxrwx1 PHumblet Domain U 8779 May 10 21:57 app-defaults/Mwm*
-rwxrwxrwx1 PHumblet Domain U 8779 May 10 21:57 app-defaults/Mwm*
lrwxrwxrwx1 PHumblet Domain U 124 Jul 1 17:33 app-defaults/app-defaults -
/etc/X11/app-defaults/
lrwxrwxrwx1 PHumblet Domain U 124 Jul 1 17:33 app-defaults/app-defaults -
/etc/X11/app-defaults/

So,
- what's the best way to come out of this mess? Is it a good idea to follow
 http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin-xfree/2002-07/msg00537.html
- should I provide a new version of the precompiled xfig using a new
 directory structure?

Thanks.

 Hello,

Thank you for providing binaries of Xfig for cygwin. I installed and it
seem to run ok. (First time I use Xfig. Wanted to make some figures to
 include in my latex files.)

I get the following error message when starting xfig:
Either you have a very old app-defaults file installed (Fig),
or there is none installed at all.
You should install the correct version or you may lose some features.
This may be done with make install in the xfig source directory.

 I followed your instructions and changed  ~/.bash_rc ~/.Xdefaults;
 /etc/X11/app-defaults/Fig .

I set the path to acroread and mozilla (instead of IE).
When I try to open the help PDF file from the help menu. Acroread starts
but it can not open the file. It seem that Xfig does not see the Fig
file and hence do not apply the 'cygpath' command.

Windowmaker gived error message upon start

2002-05-01 Thread Lytle, Robert TQO

Hi All,

I was very happy to see the Windowmaker port and installed it. I did the
initial config to make the GNUStep directory, then started it by putting
exec wmaker inside .xinitrc. I get the error Procedure entry point
TiffGetFieldDefaulted could not be located in dynamic link library
cygtiff3.dll. I imagine that there is something I need to update, or
maybe I need to update everything. I wonder if someone can confirm that
before I start downloading Mb. I think the version of Cygwin I am using is
1.3.9-1, at least thats what the install log says.

Thanks, Rob.

Hmm when I do installations, binary is default for my mounts? Or have

kind of user klicking happily :-) (not blaming the user, but the

I don't know if they are, but for some development releases they are
needed.

I guess you still have the original XWin.exe installed by Xinstall.sh.
So XF86Config is not used. If you're using a test release, then use the
switch XkbDisable in XF86Config.

But the Xkb problem should not cause the other error message.

I have tried to use xdm. The login banner comes up, but
it does not recognize the passwords. Using the passwd

Xdm does not work properly on Windows.

What's this? you request status information and direct the output to
/dev/null? That's strange.

Please keep responses to the mailing list. It will help _you_ that more
