The solution is "you want to run up-to-date software, you get to upgrade
your distro first".­


Except that is not at all true. Besides OBS, which does build for 
quite a few "out of date" distros, there are also flatpaks and snaps, 
which will run a whole bunch of places where an otherwise up-to-date 
darktable package isn't available.


Not there is current dev work ongoing to enable darktable to be offered 
as an Appimage which will allow another option for older OS versions.

I am also a longterm user since the early days. I have been compiling 
and using the master code and all I can say is that my images have never 
looked so good. Everyone should prepare themselves for a great upgrade!

The only new camera debayering requests I have seen recently have been 
on github, Terry. The standard way to inform them that it is a feature 
request rather than a bug report is to begin the title with something

Moving a selection of images in lighttable (filemanager mode, custom 
sort) by drag and drop reverses the sequence of the moved images.


**To Reproduce**

1. Open a film roll in lighttable with some images (10 for example)
2. select filtering and sort order as shown in first screenshot 
(wrong-order-export-1.png)

3. make a selection of three sequential images
4. drag an drop this selection to a new position
5. after dropping the selection, the moved images are inserted in 
reversed order. In other words :

  having 10 images (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 ,9)
  selecting images 7, 8, 9
  dragging and dropping them on image 4 leads to (0, 1, 2, 3, 9, 
8, 7, 4, 5, 6) which is obviously wrong.


There is a related bug if images are exported :

1. select all images of a selection (3 in this example)
2. select filtering and sort order as shown in first screenshot 
(wrong-order-export-1.png)
3. set export parameters as shown in second screenshot 
(wrong-order-export-2.png)

4. click export
5. images are exported as
    0001-third.jpg
    0002-second.jpg
    0003-first.jpg

**Expected behavior**

1. Moved images should be inserted in the order (0, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 
4, 5, 6)


2. Exported images, using $(SEQUENCE)-S(FILE_NAME), should be 
exported as

    0001-first.jpg
    0002-second.jpg
    0003-third.jpg

I do not know how you get submodules on windows but there is a new
submodule that is needed:

   Fetching submodule src/external/rawspeed
   Fetching submodule src/external/whereami

you at least are missing "whereami".


Thanks, Patrick. That fixed it up.  I am on Ubuntu 20.10 (first line of 
original post). I was under the mistaken impression that 
--recurse-submodules grabbed any new submodule in the tree. But one 
still needs to do a prior submodule init. Lesson learned.

but is not in it. The current C++ version of Linux Mint 20 is g++ 10, 
one of the modules must have changed its name and the Darktable build 
command is not recognizing it. I tried the Flatpak version of 
Darktable (3.2.0 I believe)  but it has a bug in the crop-and-rotate 
module which does not handle the original image format in the "aspect" 
setting. Everything works well now using the git 
version 3.3.0+1034~gf6d1897c9-dirty.


I will try to find the name of the C module in Linux Mint now required 
by Darktable.

perhaps you need to reinstall libtiff5

OK. On a whim, I changed the desktop to "Yaru session" on the Ubuntu 
20.04 login screen. To my amazement, dt now works as it should. Looks 
like this is a GUI problem, possibly on the gtk end but it looks like it 
has nothing to do with dt. There was a mutter update a few days ago 
which may be triggering the fault with the default Ubuntu session. But I 
can work with this now regardless. Thank you all for your time.

But there is no indication of anything amiss. It just stops cold. And

Thanks, Peter. I did not disable opencl so I will try that to see if 
it fixes things. But having no opencl is really not an option :) I am 
on Ubuntu 20.04.

[darktable-dev] dt freezing on aspect change in crop

I compile dt from git before every run. For the last several compiles, 
dt has been instantly freezing when doing the following:


- select an image in darktable
- change the crop aspect from landscape to portrait (or vice versa)
- adjust crop to taste
- either double click on crop window or click on module header bar to 
set new crop... instant hard freeze.


I often change the image aspect so this is a real inconvenience for me. 
Perhaps someone can try to see if they can duplicate. Session info 
available upon request.

Thus far darktable does not handle Pentax pixelshift RAW files.
Your best approach, in my view, is to use dcrawps to produce a single
TIFF and import that into darktable for further PP as required.

But it seems from dcrawps are only Windows executables available and it
won't compile on my ubuntu machine as there is no libjasper available in
Ubuntu.

So this does not seem to be an option. :-(

Changing background threads to "2" fixed slow thumbnail generation for 
me. BTW, the printing module is working fine for me, also.
