Re: [darktable-user] open CL 2.0.6

2016-09-13 Thread Jonathan Niehof
There was a thread on the -dev list with someone else having slowness
on Ubuntu 16.04 with OpenCL on nVidia and it looked like a driver
issue. They switched from version 361 of the nVidia driver to 340 and
saw an improvement, might be worth trying.

[darktable-user] Fuji X T10 lens correction or ?

2016-09-13 Thread komodo
Hi,

when i edit raw image it looks different than original jpeg from cam.

https://postimg.org/image/xcheiwp7d/

https://postimg.org/image/gd8g3ndzt/

First is crop from raw, second is crop from jpeg,

All from DT.

So it's lens correction problem, or ? Do you have same behaviour ?

Thank you

Martin

re: [darktable-user] Fuji X T10 lens correction or ?

2016-09-13 Thread Jean-Luc CECCOLI
Hello,

For what I know, camera manufacturers tend to add some (useless) processing to
their JPEGs.
And I think this is the same kind of behaviour with inkjet manufacturers, when
they add porcessing to the printouts in photo mode.
This processing is meant to feat the taste of a panel of people who were asked
to.
Most of the time, those people like flashy colours rather than softer but more
realistic ones.
I had a similar discussion with a professional photographer whom I showed 3
photos :
- the first one, as from the camera JPEG
- the second one, with (as as possible) accurate colours
- then, the third, with colour saturation accentuation.
I asked him to tell me which was which, and it didn't take more than 3 seconds
to sort them.
But, he added, his customers prefer photos of the first or even third kind
(JPEGs from the camera) rather than those of the second, so he always adds
saturation to his photos.
Which I personally don't like at all... but I am not 99% of the customers.

Would you be surprised if I tell you that I prefer the raw sample ? I find it
more accurate, and it shows more details in shadows.
But, once again, I am not...

J.-Luc

Re: [darktable-user] Fuji X T10 lens correction or ?

2016-09-13 Thread Martin Schoepf
Hi Martin,

this is a firmware problem from v1.00. It got updated with v1.01 have a
look here:
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/firmware/x/xt10/history.html

I also have a XT-10 and experienced the same problem, after the firmware
update everything worked
as expected... therefore it's not a problem of darktable but from the
stock-firmware of the XT-10.

HTH

Cheers,
Martin

Re: [darktable-user] open CL 2.0.6

2016-09-13 Thread I. Ivanov

I find it strange...

When I upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04 - DT was at version 2.0.5 and nvidia
361. I actually experienced speed "gain" - did not clock it but it was
very noticeable. I worked in this state for several weeks - all happy,
no changes in settings to DT.

2.0.6 was installed on 2016-09-06. I noticed it works but did not test
any further. Then I didn't use the computer till 11th. Installed the
following updates

and noticed drop in performance - mainly when using darktable (not much
light table). Took a chance to turn off open CL and the performance
improved. After reading the thread

https://www.mail-archive.com/darktable-dev@lists.darktable.org/msg01176.html

Tried to compare with export of a single image.
without open CL - 23s for about 20 MB RAW.
Same image - no change
with open CL - 41s

The OS and the images are stored on SSD so the networking does not come
into play.
I can work without open CL - it is not a deal breaker but the behavior
is surprising.

B

[darktable-user] Darktable 2.0.6 dmg?

Hello All,

I feel that I’m looking a gift horse into the mouth but, I’ll ask nonetheless:
Is a 2.0.6 dmg package available yet? I’ve looked but could only find the 2.0.5
(which I’m already running on my MBPr)

[darktable-user] Horizontal v Vertical

2016-09-13 Thread darktable
Arch with DT 2.0.6 (I upgraded today). Looks good, especially the css
to be able to select the filename (right the right click) and copy it.

Is there a way of selecting the images that are horizontals or
verticals?

I want to redo my frame & watermark. But the position of the
watermark is slightly different on horizontal images from the
vertical images. So I have 2 styles/preset that I apply at the
export...

Thanks
