/var/lib/flatpak indicates that you've installed the flatpak version of
darktable, not the one coming from the .deb package from the apt
repositories. In that case, the user configuration files are
inside ~/.var/app

[darktable-user] DT 4.0 - show all images ? problem

2022-07-12 Thread Francesco Scaglioni

Hi,

I have failed to find the answer for this but apologies if I have missed
it.  Historically I have had DT set zero stars on import ( I then add 1
star to images I might want to look further at, 2 starts for images that
I am working on etc etc ).

I cannot find a way to show images with 1 star at the same time as all
unstared / not yet assessed images.

Is there an easy solution or should I try and re-work my workflow ?

Cheers,

F

Ciao Francesco,
moving the mouse cursor on the stars list shows a tooltip.
You can find there the solution you are looking for.

Thanks,
Maurizio

[darktable-user] WB strange behaviour

2022-07-12 Thread Jean-Luc

Hello,

I am still running focal and finally got dt to upgrade to 4.0 yesterday.
Cool !
I will have to learn some more things, as it comes with many
improvements and bug fixes.

And it finally brings wb and noiseprofile support for my D4s.
About wb, I noticed something strange.
I had worked on a few photos on 3.8, on which I had set wb to Camera
neutral and adjusted Color calibration using the color picker.
But, when I reviewed my photos on 4.0, a few minutes ago, they all
displayed a warning on both wb and cc, and it appeared that wb was reset
to Camera (instead of Camera neutral).
Could this be a normal behaviour, due to the fact that there were no wb
support for this camera before ?

J.-Luc

I just experienced a similar thing when I tried to adjust WB in 4.0 on
photos imported with 3.8. It says "while balance applied twice".

My Camera is Sony RX-100 M5A, which was supported in 3.8 also.

(Also using Ubuntu 20.04.)

What's going on?

The best part of this debacle is that I managed to find a workable
location for the watermarks.  Almost every other app installed with
Linux Mint is working well.  The good news out of all of this is that I
have darktable working well on all my machines, both Win 10 and LM. My

Hello Willy,
I'm sure you will be aware of this but just to clarify for others.
See the attached screen shot.

The current 20.3 version of Linux Mint offers darktable 4.0 only as a
flatpack in the Software Manager, although there is an outdated 3.0.1
listed as a full install option - from Software Manager or Synaptic.

The former (/var) sounds like the system location (for Mint), the
latter
(~/.config) for user-configurable files, which is surely what you
want.

Re: [darktable-user] WB strange behaviour

Hi Jean-Luc,

This is not a bug but an anticipated side effect of a move that was
really needed since a long time.

The camera adobe coef are now taken from rawspeed directly instead of
dt adobe_coeff.c. We knew that some coefs were not in sync with the
ones in rawspeed and that's why you see this behavior.

The good news is that this simplification by using directly the coefs
from rawspeed instead of a copy will avoid any more issues like this.

To fix, just reapply the camera neutral setting in WB module.

Hello Pascal,

Fine, now I know.
And, of course, I found that just re-applying the preset seemed to work,
but I wanted to be sure whether it was a normal behaviour or not before
telling about it.

No need anymore, you did it. ;-)
By the way, does it mean that now copying/pasting wb from a picture to
others will give more accurate results (from my quick testings, it seems
that yes, but i am not sure) ?

Well no. First, only a very limited set of cameras are affected. So for
some people this issue will never happen (it is my case for a Nikon
D850 for example).

If the issue happens for your camera the look could be very slightly
different as the adobe coefs were not fully in sync but very close.

Hope this clarifies the situation!

Hi Martin,
when would you expect the libraw update to be applied? I am hoping it
will appear in one of the weekly builds soon as this would be a major
problem for owners of CR3 file images.

thanks

Re: [darktable-user] DT 4.0 - show all images ? problem

2022-07-12 Thread Terry Pinfold
Thanks Maurizio for this simple advice. I was really struggling with this
issue myself. I would also add that sometimes images can appear missing
because they are in groups. This has been the case for me when I have done
multiple editing attempts or have a JPG and a RAW file of the same picture.
I still would love to see a single button to push along the top bar that
would unfilter the images so they all appeared.

[darktable-user] Darktable on xubunbu 22.04 / wayland / nvidia: Recommended or not?

2022-07-12 Thread Michael Staats

Hi
I'm currently on xubuntu 20.04, darktable 4.0. Works nicely, opencl with
my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 works as well.

I'm thinking about upgrading to xubuntu 22.04, which seems to have
wayland as default display server.

Anyone using this already? Any known issues? Should I wait with the
upgrade, or should I give it a try?

Thanks in advance, best regards,
Michael
