2024-03-06 Thread michael raider
I've been able to get photos exported by compressing the history stack and
removing any instances of the "diffuse or sharpen" module.

I assume this is only an issue due to my low performance laptop and that export
would work without these extra steps on my more powerful desktop with OpenCL.

I have the same issue on my Fedora 39 system...actually it's the same

I had a similar problem with 4.6.0 and I had to load lensfun from their
git repository which fixed the problem. I re-loaded lensfun from git
but that didn't fix the problem this time.

[darktable-user] Compile Help

2024-02-22 Thread michael
I am having difficulty compiling release 4.6.1 (see error message
below) on a Fedora 39 machine. It looks to me like a lensfun error, but
lensfun is installed on my machine.

Why am I compiling? OBS does not have a 4.6.1 release for Fedora 39 and
the OBS repository fail gpgcheck with its' outdated key. Also, I am not
interested in running the flat pack.

I've successfully compiled previous versions of DT on this machine and
this one has me stumped.

Any help compiling this would be appreciated.

Thanks, Michael

Lens Model was set to "generic". Switching to "specific" sets it to 1.00 and
then aspect ratio fits as far as I can see. If not, this is the place for
adjusting it.

Hi all
I gave it a try, and failed -- at first.
The key is: You also need to give access to GPU. Apparently not only to
the darktable flatpak, but also to the device driver. For this, I used
https://flathub.org/apps/com.github.tchx84.Flatseal
It did not show me the drivers as "application", so I gave access for
all applications. Not a problem for me now, I'm (currently) not
interested in the "container" features of flatpak.

And now it works!

$ flatpak run org.darktable.Darktable -d opencl
[...]
opencl_init]0 'NVIDIA CUDA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660'
[opencl_init] FINALLY: opencl is AVAILABLE and ENABLED.
[...]

Thanks so much.

I'll now copy my dt config from ~/.config/darktable to
~/.var/app/org.darktable.Darktable/config/darktable
and start using it. I'll keep the old config as backup, will rename
/usr/bin/darktable etc.etc. You get the idea.

(Just for the records: I also tried to compile dt, does not work on
Debian 11 -- gcc too old -- I tried on my Laptop with Debian 12, ran
into an internal compiler error, that's were I stopped...)

The easiest way is to wait to connect the camera until Darktable is
started and in case you need to work with the camera in another program
then disconnect the camera before starting Darktable.

The problem is that connecting a device to a program is like bluetooth
- when one device are connected connections to other devices are
blocked. In technical terms these connections are 1 - 1.

First you need to have the 'normal' kernel driver (deb) package for
NVidia installed (nvidia-driver-xxx and all its dependencies takes care
of that), and then install the flatpak version:

Hi Remco
Thanks a lot for your comments.

a) NVidia as flatpak? That's an option, but I would need to find out how

c) Sure. Just wait. No problem with that. 4.4.0 is great already, and
this option is fully compatible with being lazy ;-) I really appreciate

Ok, there is a chance that my impatience and curiosity is bigger than my

[darktable-user] darktable flatpak opencl support

2023-07-25 Thread Michael Staats

Hi
I'm on Debian 11, and it seems that there is no dt 4.4.2 package on OBS.
Same for Debian 12, so an upgrade will not help.

So I thought I'd give the flatpak version a try. Installs nicely, and
after copying from ~/.config/darktable to
~/.var/app/org.darktable.Darktable/config/darktable, 4.4.2 starts and
all looks good.

Except: There is no openCL support. Which is bad, the only reason I have
a GTX 1660 is darktable...

I also installed org.freedesktop.Platform.ClInfo (as flatpak), but this
did not change anything.

Any chance to get openCL running with the flatpak version?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Hi
(sorry for my lengthy intro, see the main question below, which might
also be interesting for other cameras).

I don't own any of those two Samsungs, but their hardware is identical
to Pentax K10D/Pentax K20D respectively.
Wikipedia says, their Firmware is slighly different, though. The GX-10
can only save raw as DNG.

Now I would think that DNG is not a problem (my Pentaxes are set to DNG
export only, and work fine with Darktable). Ok, dng is not dng, and I
read that "Compression Mode" of "Samsung Expert RAW DNGs" is also
missing. I have no idea if this is an issue, i.e. if the GXes use this.

But I'd say there is some hope of supporting these cameras. However, if
someone wants to have it, the first step would probably be: Upload some
samples to raw.pixls.us

Ok, this finally leads to my question: What exactly does it mean if
support for any camera is "suspended"? Leaving the raw format aside
(which should not hopefully be an issue for DNG), what else is camera
specific?

I'd say:

1 Base curve
2 Noise profiles
3 Lens correction
4 Direct import from attached camera/Tethering

None of them are mandatory, and for sure you can find settings that will
work for the Samsungs.

Best regards,
Michael

Yep, thanks again for the warning. Someone wrote that the "Testing"

of hacking to get that installed. Then again, the newest dt is at 4.4.1
already, and I also have no issue until there's a working package for
Debian 12 without hacking. dt 4.2.1 is excellent already.

[darktable-user] dt 4.4 on Debian 11.7, apt update issue

2023-06-30 Thread Michael Staats

Hi all
First, "apt update" did not show any updates, which is fine, I'm not
expecting new versions for all systems to be available just after
release, I fully understand that dt itself and the packages are created
by volunteers -- Thanks again for this!

But since yesterday, "apt update" finds something, but runs into an
error. Do I need to change anything? Or just wait?

Details:

$ cat /etc/debian_version
11.7

$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/graphics\:darktable.list
deb
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/graphics:/darktable/Debian_11/ /

Worked for me so far, but now:

$ apt update
[ ... ]
E: The repository
'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/graphics:/darktable/Debian_11
Release' no longer has a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is
therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user
configuration details.

Yes, I read the hints and if required, I'll go to see apt-secure(8), but
I wonder if it's just a small bug and the "Release file" is just missing.

Any help appreciated.

Michael

Hmm, ok, cannot help with the root cause, no idea what's exactly
different on your machines.

But a quick and dirty hack is of course:

cd /lib64 && ln -s libicui18n.so.73 libicui18n.so.72

I'd not do that if I had to guarantee any SLA or so, but I'd say the
risk is very low. a) The library is most certainly not used for any core
functionality of dt, b) usually, a change between a "73" and "72"
version does not introduce any incompatibility. The 73 might have some
improvements, fixes, new functionality, but it should not break any 72
functionality -- only guessing, of course.

If this was my machine, and I'd just need to get it working, I'd do that.

Hi Patrick
Sorry for recommending something obvious, I know that you probably know

- ldd $(which darktable)

- check if links from libicui18n.so are pointing to libicui18n.so.72 (on

Hi Terry
I do not think it was "attacked". Age was mentioned since it seems you
do not know the history, and wisdom was challenged, since you seem to
assume that all you know (your way of quoting) is the "right" way,
ignoring the history, and assuming that Microsoft has any authority to
define this.

Having that said, I find it sad that such formal arguments are the
reason for posting to this list or not. With a little bit of extra
effort to accept both worlds, it should be possible to co-exist. The
contents should matter. And it cannot be denied that the "business
world" is adhering to their god (Microsoft). Bad, and we should try
better in a world which is not under their influnce, but we should know
that the other world exists, and tolerate.

Even Internet RFCs follow the robustness principle: "be conservative in
what you do, be liberal in what you accept from others".

(And, by the way, Patrick's excessive full quotes on top with one
sentence on the bottom are also not helpful, and not the idea of
"proper" quoting).

Michael

Well, this is a question of perception. I, German, working for an Indian

the most rude guy in the account. But I try to improve (*).

But beside perception, there's something called "facts". And, sorry to
say, Patrick is right, you are not.

TOFU quoting was invented by Microsoft, way too late, when other
standards were already implemented and followed. The fact that most
Outlook users don't know better (again, I know what I'm talking about),
does not change that.
Actually, with a little bit of experience in IT, all alarms should fire
if you follow some rule just because MS has established it.

By the way: For sure, Microsoft will have a standard product to replace
darktable. Better go for that.

[ ... ]

I'm not sure if images already imported to Flickr are representative of
originals in terms of metadata.

One will get better info by comparing darktable-exported images directly
with exiftool or exiv2.

Yes, more investigation including exiv2 and exiftool helped.

Issue:
- Out of NX3000 camera .JPG: No prob.
- Darktable developed jpg.: flickr ignored exif, exiftool was missing
exif attributes, although exiv2 did work.
- Out of NX3000 camera raw (*.SRW): exiftool was missing exif
attributes, although exiv2 did work (so it was *not* a darktable issue)

Now flickr seems to use exiftool or similar. I found the root cause by
taking exiv2 warnings serious (yeah, I know, crazy...).

$ exiv2 yyy.SRW > /dev/null
Warning: Directory Photo, entry 0x has unknown Exif (TIFF) type 0;
setting type size 1.
Warning: Directory Image, entry 0x has unknown Exif (TIFF) type 0;
setting type size 1.

Ok, after printing the unknowns tags with "exiv2 -u", and reading the
manual (crazy days...), I found that

$ exiv2 -M'del Exif.Photo.0x' -M 'del Exif.Image.0x' yyy.SRW

fixed the issue. Imported the yyy.SRW into darktable, developed, checked
with exiftool, uploaded to flickr, all fine.

So Samsung is creating faulty exif data in their NX3000 raw files. Took
some time, but was fun ;-)

Will now write a quick script to apply the fix only to NX3000 raw files
that have not been repaired yet (to avoid modifying too many files, or
too often).

What does the following command show?
$ darktable --version
this is darktable 4.2.0
copyright (c) 2009-2022 johannes hanika
https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/issues/new/choose

compile options:
  bit depth is 64 bit
  normal build
  SSE2 optimized codepath enabled
  OpenMP support enabled
  OpenCL support enabled
Lua support enabled, API version 9.0.0
  Colord support enabled
  gPhoto2 support enabled
  GraphicsMagick support enabled
  ImageMagick support disabled
  libavif support enabled
  libheif support enabled
  libjxl support enabled
  OpenJPEG support enabled
  OpenEXR support enabled
  WebP support enabled

If you does not see this: libjxl support enabled but libjxl support
disabled instead then your version of DT is built without support for
jxl. Since jxl is an optional feature this is not unlikely.

I cannot find it in the format list of the export (I have JPEG (8-bit),

Hi
Ok, let's make a difference between one process (darktable) that is
crashing, or the full "system" (computer).
Darktable "crashes" do happen sometimes, to me as well. Not very often,
and the last time it happened, it was my own fault, not enough memory
and no swap space configured, so the kernel killed my process...

If darktable "crashes", hopefully we'll lose only data for the picture
that we are working on at the moment of the crash. The xmp files for the
other pictures hold all the information you need, and the db as well.
This "crash" can be any ungraceful termination, a "kill -9" would
suffice, if you want. That's "fine" for me. Using software is a risk.
Always.

Real problems (tm) occur if you machine crashes completely, for whatever
reason. That should not happen. Even Windows does not crash every day
any more (esp. when properly, i.e. not at all, used ;-)

This "slowdown" would be absolutely neglegible, compared to the risk of
having never ending DB transactions (until you termintate dt gracefully).
But we already learned that this is not the case. dt commits the db
transactions if you move to the next picture. This is absolutely
resonable. Everything else would be asking for trouble.
Even an fsync() might make sense, after the commit.

This limits the loss of information to one picture max, be it in the DB
or in the xmp. Unless your "crash" breaks your file system, then you are
lost. So just avoid crashes.

Hi,
is this really correct? I hope not. To be honest, I did not check the
code, but I would recommend to update the DB (and commit) much more
frequently, like

- if you move to the next picture
- before exporting
- if you receive some (catchable) SIG* that leads to termination
- maybe even every N minutes (ok, using timers might be a bit too much
effort unless they are already being used), so maybe better
- every N "edits" (whatever an "edit" is, sth like activating a new module)

This would help and limit loss of DB information to one picture. But sure

if one experiences a system crash, all bets on anything are off.

Correct. So a real system crash should be investigated and the root
cause be removed.

but the edits are not lost

That depends. In the worst case, dt cannot even write the complete xmp.
This would affect only one picture, probably Unless your file
system gets corrupted by the crash. Then both xmp and DB might be lost...

So

and anyone experiencing frequent system crashes

you should find out the root cause and remove it.

But you said that already ;-)

ps: anyone now days experiencing "frequent" system crashes should identify
the cause and correct it rather than complain about loosing data, which
*should* be expected.

Since the darktable database is stored in a sqlite3 database you can
manually make a backup if you have sqlite3 installed. Darktable uses
two databases: data.db and library.db.

A quick way is the following (darktable needs not be shutdown when you
do it)

sqlite3 library.db ".backup 'library_backup.db'"
sqlite3 data.db ".backup 'data_backup.db'"

That might depend on the camera... I would think that my Pentax K-5 and

To be honest, I'm not 100 % sure now, I can make some tests, if I find

Aw: Re: [darktable-user] Darktable on xubunbu 22.04 / wayland / nvidia: Recommended or not?

2022-07-19 Thread Michael Staats
Hi

Thanks for this answer. In the meantime, I researched a bit, and found one information where it says: NVidia has asked Ubuntu to *not* use Wayland in 22.04 for NVidia cards. So probably, 22.04 + NVidia is still using X11.

You can find out by running

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

in a terminal. See also https://askubuntu.com/questions/904940/how-can-i-tell-if-i-am-running-wayland

So maybe your issues are not Wayland-related.

Anyway, I have decided to stay with 20.04 for some time. I mean, I'm not using a long term support version to change it every other day ;-) Ok, seriously, I was interested in Wayland, if it was stable and working fine, I wanted to give it a try (although I know X since X10, it would be a hard time to say good-bye).

But Wayland seems not to be usable today, so maybe I'll wait for 24.04.

Best regards,

 Michael

Now I get an idea, what the reason for my problems may be.

Because Ubuntu 20.04 on my mashine had some problems on startup, last
week I decided to do the LTS-upgrade earlier then 22.04.1 is released on
4th August.
I got DT 4.0 from PPA "unbuntuhandbook".
After upgrade to some new nvidia-drivers, the openCL-Support in DT was
fixed.

But one of my displays (EIZO) seemed to be out of calibration, it looks
a bit too green after the upgrade.

I found, that DisplayCAL (3.8.x) is not longer in the sources in 22.04
because of the dependencies to python 2, with is not longer supported.
But there is a new projekt "DisplayCAL-PY3" porting the code to python
3. It can be installed with "pip install DisplayCAL" which gives you a
version 3.9.6, still in progress but works.

The calibration of my new ASUS-display was done in half an hour. But the
calibration of my older EIZO (has run more then 8000 hours), takes 2
days with many attempts. Each run with other results, some lookes green,
some looked magenta, some had bad messages.
Sometimes even the hardware-defined RGB-start-point drifted from one
attempt to the next.

Each time the result was different, the colors seemed to be "unstable".
I worried, the last days of my diplay has come.

At least (after a dozen tries) I got a icc-profile that seems to work.

May this problems result from an unstable implementation of
colormanagement in wayland in Ubuntu 22.04?
Or should I begin to save some money for a new display?
Why does Ubuntu do an upgrade to a system without a stable colormanagement?

Hardware: NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, ASUS VA24E, EIZO FORIS FS2333,
XRite colormunki Smile.

[darktable-user] Darktable on xubunbu 22.04 / wayland / nvidia: Recommended or not?

2022-07-12 Thread Michael Staats

Hi
I'm currently on xubuntu 20.04, darktable 4.0. Works nicely, opencl with
my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 works as well.

I'm thinking about upgrading to xubuntu 22.04, which seems to have
wayland as default display server.

Anyone using this already? Any known issues? Should I wait with the
upgrade, or should I give it a try?

Thanks in advance, best regards,

[darktable-user] Darktable-exported EXIF ignored by flickr for Samsung NX

2022-07-07 Thread Michael Staats

Dear darktable users
This is mostly flickr question, I know. Apologies for that, but it's
also darktable related, since the issue occurs with darktable-exported jpgs.

In short: Flickr is ignoring the exif data for Samsung-NX pictures,
while it works fine for Pentax K-*.

Working example Pentax K-3 II: https://flic.kr/p/2niiAah
Non-working Samsung NX3000: https://flic.kr/p/2nvyzYU

Both pictures have been exported with exactly the same settings in the
export module. Actually, if I view the jpg in gthumb, also the NX
picture *does* have all exif -- that's why it's probably not a darktable
issue, but a flickr issue. Nevertheless, I'm happy for any replies or
suggestions.

Thanks in advance, best regards,
Michael

[darktable-user] Nice to have feature: Smart mouse wheel module scroll

2022-02-20 Thread Michael Staats

Hi
I cannot decide whether I want to set the config parameter "mouse wheel
scrolls modules side panel by default" to true or false...

On the one hand, I like the "true" setting, to scroll through the
modules list.
But on the other hand, I also like to use the mouse wheel to modify e.g.
the rotation angle in "rotate and perspective" (or any other slider).

Would it be possible to have the best of both worlds, i.e. scroll
through modules by default, but change slider values when the mouse
pointer is placed on the slider (maybe "activating" it with a click)?

Sure, this is a low priority nice-to-have feature. What do others think?
I'm happy to raise an enhancement request, if others find it useful, too.

Best regards,
Michael

Hi
I tend to agree, but of course it depends a lot on your monitor/display.
With a "prefect" display, you need the indicators less. I'm working with
two cheap, different 20" office monitors (one Samsung, one Eizo) side by
side. And even after fiddling around with all the settings, I cannot get
the same look on both... Maybe my fault.
So I'm never sure what my picture "really" looks like. Since I'm not a
professional -- I'm taking photos just for fun and only put some on
flickr and 500px -- it does not matter too much. But to be on the safer
side, I usually check some "numbers" with the clipping indicators.

My next monitor will be a better one, but the old bloody things just
don't want to break ;-) And you can even repair the Samsung, I recently
replaced the capacitors in the power supply, so it's working just like
new...

[darktable-user] Install version before 3.8

2022-01-14 Thread Michael
Well, I don't like 3,8 because it is too resource intensive. But I had
already updated so I was stuck. I cried, I begged, I prayed but nothing
changed. So a few weeks later I was happily upgrading my computer and
watching Bones on it. Well, it started stuttering and I forgot I was
upgrading it. I then shut it down and it wouldn't restart. Again I begged
and cried and prayed. So I reinstalled and when I got around to installing
darktable discovered it installed the stable version (3.0.1). How do I
install the version prior to 3.8 and how do I make it so it will not
upgrade? (GOD answered my prayer)

Same issue here. I tried to install 3.8 on Debian Next, but the
packages for Debian Next and Debian 11 both require libexiv2-27 >=
0.27.5-1.1 which is not available in Debian Next or 11. Looks like the

darktable hängt ab von libexiv2-27 (>= 0.27.5-1.1); aber:

I did not try installing further SuSE packages, I prefer not mixing up

[darktable-user] Denoise (profiled) non-local means way too strong for Samsung NX

2021-12-10 Thread Michael Staats
Hi all
Mostly, I'm using my Pentax DSLR, and the denoise module does what it's
supposed to do.

As a second camera, I sometimes use a Samsung NX3000. If I use the
"denoise (profile)" module with default settings, it not only removes
the noise, but way too many details.

Example raw file with xmp is in

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AhC9nspBW9ESrhXztymAbMDoxL1GDcwX?usp=sharing

if someone wants to give it a try. It's already obvious without zooming
in, e.g. on the hull of the ship. When zooming in, it becomes very obvious.

Of course, this is not a serious issue, I can use the "wavelets" mode of
denoise, which does not show this effect. I just wonder about the root
cause. Does Samsung already modify (denoise) the "raw" files, so that
some effects add (or multiply)?

So it's more a question out of curiosity.

Thanks in advance for any answer, and of course, thanks to the
developers of darktable!

Best regards,
Michael

Hi
I don't think the retouch module (with the "healing" algortihm) is
superior, it's just different. I would totally agree with you, and would
have the same complaint -- until I found out that the functionality of
the cloning tool is still available in the retouch module, you just have
to activate the "cloning tool" in the algorithms section.

I'd like to add: Of course, because the darktable developers for sure
know and understand that cloning is different from retouching, and
certainly a valid use case. So we can trust them -- thanks for
darktable, by the way!

But I agree, it was not really obvious...

Top quoting is not the "Linux Way". Top Quiting is the preferred quoting
method since ages, for email, and e.g. in the Usenet. These were the
days when the Internet (and other "networks") were used mostly for
actual communication. This was established long before Linux was
created, and (wait a sec), ok, not before Linus Torvalds was born, but
almost.

Then, Outlook entered the scene, and email became mostly write-only. If
you only write to make your point, you do not need to ensure context,
this would even spoil the effect. So you "bottom quote", and hope that
nobody reads below the first two sentences. Which is exactly what I
observe in so-called "professional office emails".
Everyone is using MS Outlook, every employer (with very few exceptions)
is following the Microsoft way, because they think that's how god
designed the world. Which is wrong, of course. (I have to admit that I
follow this habit in my work-life, too, because all others do, and I
cannot save the world...)

So if you want people to read and understand your email, you usually
have to provide some context. And since people read from top to bottom,
you should put the context (i.e. the quote you are referring to) on the
top. Of course, abbreviated to the significant parts. Yes, that might be
a bit more tedious, but eventually, you want others to understand your
email. So you should spend a few minutes more, to save hours and days of
others (in total). Especially if there is no business pressure, like you
are the manager, and your underlings should spend the effort to
understand what you mean -- this here is all voluntary.

Best regards,
Michael

Personally, I prefer top posting. It's really annoying when someone doesn't
trim their reply and I have to scroll way down to find the most current
response.

FWIW top posting is the default of every mail client I've used on Linux and

Hi Terry,

This is what bottom posting looks like. It has enough information in the
retained messages (1 or 2) for clarity and then reading from the top
message down we get the story as we would in a paperback or newspaper.
Strictly, I have been a bad boy here because I have "forked" the
conversation as the original discussion is found in the subject line and
has nothing to do with preferred posting practices.

[darktable-user] Mark to delete multiple pictures at once

2021-10-13 Thread Michael Jacobs
Hi,

Is there a way to "mark to delete" multiple pictures at once ? I don't mean
"remove" or "delete (trash)" from the "selected image(s)" module, I mean
mark pictures as to be deleted (red x)

Grouping pictures and then marking them to delete doesn't work, it just
inverts "mark to delete" (boolean) value of the selected pictures.
Basically, I just need to force all selected pictures as on or off.

Any jint ?

[darktable-user] Memory clock speed, any impact on darktable?

2021-09-25 Thread Michael Staats
Hi
It's actually a bit embarrassing to ask a hardware related question
here, I have never bothered much about hardware in the last 20 years ;-)

But ok, I recently checked my memory clock speed in the BIOS, it's set
to "Auto", which results in 2400 MHz. My memory modules should support
up to 3000 MHz. But when I set to 3000 MHz manually, the machine does
not boot, and I have set it back to "Auto" now.

Question: Is it worth to play around with some settings between 2400 MHz
and 3000 MHz? Is there any downside if, say, 2800 MHz works?

And most of all: Does it make any difference for darktable? Darktable is
the only program which challenges my hardware, I'm not a gamer or so.

For the records, my machine is an

ASUS PRIME B450M-A
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, 8x 3700 MHz
GeForce GTX 1660 StormX OC
4 x 8 GB DDR4 ("Ballistix Sport", 3000 MHz)
running Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

Thanks in advance, best regards,
Michael

Ok, first of all: There is a "move" feature in dt's lighttable. If you
use this, I'd expect that it will update the library etc. all right.

But then, for the hackers here, I have some script to do that... But
it's messing around with the internal dt library, so the behaviour has
to be considered as undefined, and certainly not stable with regards to
future versions.
My script relies on my folder structure, so you probably cannot use it
directly. It will also move the files for you, if you have already done
it, it will also not help, so I'm not going to share it (and no one can
blame me for screwing their library).

So here's the outline what you can try:

1. Connect to the library.db wiht a SQLite client of you choice (I'm
using a perl script with the DBI module and the SQLite "driver".

2. Find the id of the folder where your files live with "select id from
film_rolls where folder = '/your/old/path'"

3. Update the DB with "update film_rolls set folder = '/your/new/path'
where id = ".

(of course, if you are sure about your source path, you can combine 2
and 3 with "update film_rolls set folder = '/your/new/path' where id =
(select id from film_rolls where folder = '/your/old/path'), or even
simply "update film_rolls set folder = '/your/new/path' where folder =
'/your/old/path'", but the last version could potentially update more
than one row... I'm not sure if it ever could happen, but I'd be careful
here -- on the other hand, maybe you want this to happen...)

4. If you also want to fix your history of folders, you can update your
darktablerc with sth. like using this perl-replace
s!/your/old/path!/your/new/path!g;

Step 4 is "nice to have", if you ignore it, your history in dt will not
find show the new paths, but that's not an issue, just open the new path
from "import".

Of course, needless to say, make backups of library.db and darktablerc
before even trying. As I said, this may or may not work for you, you
might render your library useless. You have been warned.

Best regards,
Michael

Does anyone have the willingness and time to maintain darktable in the
Linux from Scratch* project? This is what it entails:
a. The package has to be monitored for new releases.
b. The package has to be built and checked for correct functioning in
the LFS environment.
c. The page has to be written and published.
d. The package has to be rebuilt at every release.
e. New versions of the package have to be built and tested and then
the book needs to be updated.
I am willing to do it but don't have the technical ability to do so.
Maybe we could organize a team of people to do it so it isn't so
difficult.

Hi
According to what I understood, you are mostly right, except that it's
more like calling a "pig" a "pig" and a "cow" a "cow", and not only one
button with "some mammals" ;-)

In other words: There were many discussions about what (the old)
"import" means, when you (e.g.) connect your camera directly, or
"import" from a local directory. One was involving copying files, the
other did not. And this has become clearer now. Otherwise it's the same
thing.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong

Michael

Re: [darktable-user] camera/lens recognized

2021-05-30 Thread Michael
Sorry I was asking for Peter. I thought He had asked on facebook (I
saw it hours ago). I do know the camera is a Pentax K-3 mark 3. As for
the lens I was asking before he asked.
