[darktable-user] 3D-Lut uncomfortable in dt 3.0.0

2020-01-21 Thread darktable

Hi all,

with some of the 3D-LUTs I get really nice results, but:

I registered the folder with the 3D-LUTs in the dt settings.

Always when I want to use 3D-LUT

1. I click the module 3D-LUTs

2a. the upper right small triangle (opposite the folder symbol) shows no
3D-LUTs
2b. I click on the folder symbol and the right folder is opened but
empty -> by default HaldCLUTs is selected

3. I change from HaldCLUT to 3D-LUT(cube) and can select one of my
*.cubes

If I want to use the 3D-LUT again I have to click through all this
again.

With styles it is much easier. Ones the folder is known by dt all I have
to do is click on the style.

Is there a work around with dt3 or do I miss some thing?

Thanks bernd

By the way dt(3) is awesome

I believe you're right. This is why there is option for color space.
And at least some of profiles are made for Adobe RGB which is not
supported by dt yet. See
https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/issues/3766

But those (Nikon Flat/Standard) would only be relevant for JPG. Also,
they won't know about darktable-specific issues (e.g. my question:
which modules make sense in a 3D LUT-based workflow).

Hi István!

I believe creator of LUTs is the best adviser in this case. LUTs with
best documentation I have come from ImpulZ (created for video editing).
They define requirements for input color profile (or camera model +
settings, e.g. Nikon Flat or Nikon Standard) and color space.

[darktable-user] 3D LUT

2019-12-24 Thread KOVÁCS István
Hi,

How does one use the module with film emulations? Which other modules
should be used, which ones avoided? Should I just set a correct WB,
correct the exposure in a linear way, and add a film emulation? For
example, the readme of the Fujifilm emulations from
https://blog.sowerby.me/fuji-film-simulation-profiles/ says:
'The simulations are designed to be applied to a neutral RAW file,
this means no auto-levels or custom tone curves / contrast should be
applied, although you can still use the exposure slider to correct
initial brightness. Any processing to the image should ideally happen
AFTER you've applied the simulation or you may get unintended
results.'

For example, even though Filmic comes after lut 3D, I guess it makes
no sense to use it along with the LUT, as the input is no longer
theme-referred. What are the modules that are safe to use (to alter
brightness in some parts, or minor saturation changes etc)?

Thanks,
Kofa
