Does gnome-open http://cnn.com; open Firefox for you?  Beagle just uses
the underlying GNOME mechanisms for this.  I'm not sure if the
Preferred applications thing works right; you might want to open
gconf-editor and make sure that /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command
is firefox.

Yes!

I picked that up on this list...

 you might want to open

gconf-editor, is that a command or a file or? no such thing on my 
computer...
