[Debconf-team] SIM cards for DebConf11 attendees

2011-07-18 Thread Vedran Omeragic

Hash: SHA1

Hi,
As some of you may have heard already, one of our sponsors, mtel, was
kind enough to provide us with SIM cards, in order to increase the
quality of communication between attendees, as well as to reduce to
the high costs of roaming. There are enough cards for every attendee,
so there's no hurry to get one if you don't need it right away. It is
important that you bring some form of ID, in order to ensure your DC11
attendance; we can't just give it to everyone who asks.
We won't keep any record of your SIM card, serial number or phone
number. However, feel free to add your number on the list on this
page, if you'd like other attendees to know:
http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf11/Communication
The link above also includes where and when you can get these cards.

Kind regards,
Vedran

[Debconf-team] Direct transport from Zagreb airport to main bus station

2011-07-17 Thread Vedran Omeragic

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,
As a great deal of you will be arriving at Zagreb airport, you should
know following:

* Direct bus line from airport to main bus station

Yes, there is a company that operates a direct line between these two
locations. You can find their schedule here:
http://www.plesoprijevoz.hr/schedulezg.htm

* From main bus station in Zagreb to Banja Luka bus station

There are several buses a day in both directions. On the following
site you can find out at what time are they leaving for Banja Luka:
http://www.akz.hr/EN/voznired.aspx
All you have to type is BANJA LUKA in _To_ field and it will show you
the schedule for that day. The optional _Days to show_ field will show
you schedule for the following day(s), depending on the number you enter.

* Costs
Bus from ZG airport to bus station is 30 Croatian Kunas [~4?]
Bus from ZG bus station to BL bus station is 140 [~19?] (varies from
company to company, but this is the average price)
[ 1.00 ? = 7.42769 HRK ] * according to
http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert/?Amount=1From=EURTo=HRK

If you're worried about currency and exchange, don't be. There is
exchange office and ATM inside the ZG airport.

* Stuck at airport
Waiting for a bus? Bored? Well, airport facilities include Duty-Free,
Coffee shop, snack bars, Vip lounge, Business lounge, Souvenir Shops,
Restaurant, Money exchange office, ATM, Bank. It's no luxury, but hey,
might as well relax while waiting :)

For more travel information, there's a huge info on wiki at:
http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf11/Travel-Arriving

See you all in days to come!

[Debconf-team] Newcomers and Volunteers, regarding recent incident

2011-05-31 Thread Vedran Omeragic
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

Thank you for your help and willingness to volunteer and help us out,
we really do appreciate it. However, there are few things you should
know and be aware of.

First of all, what we do [organizing], is a very public process and as
such almost everything is available for a broader public. Every meeting,
every mail, every change and update... To some it may seem very strict
and formal, but we do like to have fun and we enjoy it. BUT, (as always,
my every mail contains a 'but' section), it is imperative that you
understand one thing! As part of the organization process your actions
are most likely to reflect on the whole community. Sometimes crossing
the line is just plain wrong, and even if the whole Debian community
disapproves, for an outsider this may well seem as provocation, mockery
and even taunting by the whole group! [I'm referring to the ms.ba incident]

The organization of the Conference is in great deal done by volunteers
and DDs showed you their trust by giving you full freedom to organize,
interact, vote, discuss, etc, even if you have nothing to do with The
Debian Project... closest you get to democracy around here :) Now it is
up to you to uphold our values and respect the values and opinions of
others, no matter how different they are. Be honorable and respectful,
and consult with your friends/team members/coworkers before you do
anything that might stain the reputation of this community!

I'll just say what every parent says to their child: Think before you
do. I know most of these actions are not done to provoke or insult, but
joking aside, to others they may seem to be.

Kind regards,
Vedran Omeragic

[Debconf-team] Documentation, reporting and improved communication

2011-04-08 Thread Vedran Omeragic
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Fellow organizers and contributors,
it has come to our attention that communication over the last few weeks
has been somewhat lacking. Same questions are asked over and over again
and reporting what has or has not been done over the list has become
somewhat problematic, since everything seems to be lost in a sea of
emails. To better coordinate our efforts, not only within teams, but the
whole organization of the conference, local team has proposed to make a
category on the wiki: DC11 Documentation, which can be find at:

http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/Category:DC11documentation

In this category you can see a list of pages assigned to a certain
topic. All of these pages should contain only following information:
* Already finished - Things that have been done and taken care of
* In process of realization - Things a team is working on
* Needs to be discussed further - either over the list or irc
* Additional material - links to corresponding wiki pages or some other
important material

The whole point of these pages are to contain small amount, but very
concrete data. They should be used as some sort of a report. Each of
these pages has a link to a corresponding wiki page with ideas,
suggestions, questions, discussions, etc, where they can be discussed
and studied further; meaning, only short and concrete sentences to be
used here. We only ask that the members of corresponding teams update
them regularly, so we know the progress of each team.

As an example:

Vedran

I also found some more mistakes, there is inconsistency in use of some

[Debconf-team] A small token of appreciation

2011-02-23 Thread Vedran Omeragic
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi,

As most of you know, after last nights meeting, Sponsorship levels were
finally decided. Saying that our brochure issue is now concluded and
v1.0 of the brochure is now available on the website in both languages
and 3 different qualities. That includes small ~6mb, high ~8mb and
printing ~240mb quality. Now, I know, some of you suggested scaling down
the brochure to 1 and 3mb for SQ and HQ respectively, but you should
understand that our aim was to make something that is aesthetically
pleasing and attractive in order to attract more sponsors. We did,
however, scaled it down to 6 and 8 mb, but any further reduction or
optimization of the document would render the document almost
unreadable. On a side note, I seriously doubt 8mb of traffic is a
problem for anyone today.
Note though, this isn't the absolute final version, small changes and
typo-fixing are still possible of course, and as a matter of fact I
would appreciate if you could alert me of any typos we made...

Now, I would just like to thank everyone who helped us out in the last
few days. First of all, Miroslav Remetic for designing the template of
our brochure; Pablo Duboue and Holger Levsen for several great
suggestions and critics which helped us improved our brochure; Aigars
Mahinovs and Zoran Mrdjenovic for permission to use their photos; Zlatan
Todoric i Zoja Bajbutovic for fast translation.

Also, recently we had to change our header and so big thanks to Leandro
Gómez for great design and thanks to Valessio Brito and Zoja Bajbutovic
for your work as well; Stefano Zacchiroli, Joerg Jaspert, Moray Allan
for suggestions and help with website issues.

And finally, thanks to Darjan Prtic, Zlatan Todoric, Dejan Majkic,
Bojana Borkovic and rest of BL liasons for help with several BL related
issues.

I'm sorry if I missed someone out, we'd like you to know that we truly
appreciate your help.

Best regards,
Vedran

Hi,
first of all, thank you for helping us with header, and I really liked
the one from the link above. However, several issues with this:

* Header height is too large in my opinion. When I open the site on my
laptop, almost 70% of the site is just header. Scrolling down each time
you open a new page may get really annoying. Height reduction may be in
order...

* As for the width of the header, I assume you don't want it be
repeatable. If so then site width will have to match headers width (1280px).

* Could you please make a version without those white lines on the main
building?

This is great and simple header, could you please try blending all the
buildings with one background, sky preferably, so it looks as if they're
all located in one street, right next to each other.

[Debconf-team] Header Issues

2011-02-18 Thread Vedran Omeragic

Velimir and I have been mailing each other back and forth, and I'm just
waiting for him to send the pictures you want to use for the header. If you
send them to me today or tomorrow, we can have the header stuff done this
 weekend.

Hi,
I'm not sure what exactly did you and Velimir discuss, but I had
pictures ready for a header and if you could give it a shot, we'd really
be grateful.

Below is a link to archived photos of several buildings in Banja Luka.
Each folder begins with a number which represents, sort of a 'priority';
meaning, higher the number, the 'sooner' it comes on the header. If by
the end some of the buildings don't fit, than it's not a problem. As for
the header itself, these building should be cut out and placed on a
background of your choosing (preferably a sky and clouds; seems to fit
the best), but experiment, and make several backgrounds if possible.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16156843/header.tar.gz

Also, if anyone else is interested feel free to try and make one yourself.

Thank you all for your support,
Vedran

Re: [Debconf-team] Sponsorship brochure for DebConf11 - help?

2010-12-23 Thread Vedran Omeragic
Hi,
just a friendly reminder, first version of the brochure is ready.
Basically we just added a template and copied most of the text from the
previous years brochure, so as far as design is concern, that's about
it. However, we didn't add the amount of money for sponsorship levels.
We still have to agree and find the best solution for our situation.

Here's the link to HQ version of file (~300mb):
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16156843/dc11_brochure_en_hq_v0.1.pdf
and LQ (~30mb):

We did some proof reading, seems correct, but if you find any typos
please mail us.

Kind regards,
Vedran

 Hey,

On last meeting we had on December 7th
(http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf11/Meetings) one of the points we
covered was Sponsorship, to be more exact making sponsorship brochures
for DebConf 11, since AFAIK there's no much use of the ones that were
 used for DebConf10.

Velimir and I have agreed to get this part done, but we also expressed
that we would need some guidance. To get this guidance, we would need
to ping certain people that have experience with sponsorships. Instead
 of pinging certain people individually,

I would like to to make this *official* ping for everybody that
could help us with this to please report to actually help us with
 this.

We still haven't started working on this task because we need some
 major questions answered.

Around New Years for a week or so I'll be spending in Vienna, I was
originally planning for two of us to complete this task while I'm
there, but is this timing too late?

Now I see that some companies are having meetings who are they going
to sponsor for next years events. I'm particularly talking about
Canonical that's having this kind of meeting today, are we going to be
late to have Canonical as sponsor? Are we in position to lose some
other potential sponsors, because AFAIK companies are making their
re-balances and budget calculations for following year around this
 time right now.

i.e: I'm going to Banja Luka on Monday for a meeting with Governmen,
besides the regular meeting agenda we have, I'll bring a manually
and specifically written sponsorship document for one of the *major*
ISP and Telecom (M-Tel) companies in Bosnia. They expressed their wish
to sponsor this event, and we can't lose them, just as we shouldn't
lose Canonical. So right now we have to specifically write these
 documents for each company.

Therefor, let's conclude this sponsorship brochure topic once for
all. Are you experienced sponsorship team member? Please let us know,
we'll do the work, all we need from you is answers to questions we
 have and potential guidance.

I'll try to take care of M-Tel and Canonical so we don't lose them,
 but let's do this already.

 Thanks,

 Adnan

[Debconf-team] ToDo list, final decisions, travel issues, budget and sponsors

2010-12-08 Thread Vedran Omeragic

Hi,
as we're pretty much out of 'planning phase', with most mayor dates
decided, we need to begin with serious preparations. There are still
several mayor unresolved issues, which I personally think should be
dealt with by the end of December and January so we can have a sound
structure for the Conference. The reason why I'm pushing all this a bit
sooner than usual, is in a case of some unexpected problems or
inconsistency in our planning. This way we'll have a lot of time to deal
with it and make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.

ToDo List

   * I made a small ToDo ( DC11 specific) list, which for now, consists
only of few topics, but feel free to add anything you think is
important to the Conference. This way, we can keep track of what
needs to be done, who does what and what teams there are. Any help
 will be appreciated.
   * Can be found at: http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf11/ToDo

Travel Info

   * A tough issue at the moment. While we do have some basic 'how to
get to BL' stuff, I would like to expand it much more so attendees
can prepare and choose the traveling routes best suited for them.
In the next few days I will research 3 local Airports (Sarajevo,
Zagreb, Belgrade) to see flight plans. This might be tough, as
there are many countries from which our attendees come, so I'd
appreciate if someone could help. Though it's still too early to
have exact flight dates, I'd still like to have some kind of
confirmation of existing flight routes during that period. After
air transport, we need to focus on land travel possibilities, like
bus and train and also, mark all important routes and highways
which will be used by people coming with their own cars.
   * Now, that we have exact dates of the Conference, we have to get in
contact with travel agencies to discuss a possible arrangement of
shuttles from airports, bus and train stations to the venue /
hotel. First we need to know if that is possible, which I doubt
would be a problem, then if it's possible to book shuttles for the
day of the camp/conference. We also need to discuss the costs of
this. (I'll discuss budget issues later in mail)
   * Finally decide which map should be used as main navigational map
for dc11. In my opinion Open Street Maps is so far the best and if
nobody objects, I'll use it on official dc11 web site and wiki.
However, I do have a specific request for people from BL. All
important facilities for the conference, as well as exchange
 offices, banks, restaurants, ATMs, ambulances/hospitals,
pharmacies, etc will have to be marked. For that I need someone
from Banja Luka to go out and mark all these locations. Of course,
I only mean locations in near distance from Venue and Hotel
Bosnia. OSM already has a great deal marked, but what is missing,
we should add ourselves. So, who is willing to do this, or at
 least a part of it?
   * Also, we need to know Customs rules ( what can and can't be
 transported over the border ).

Accommodations and Venue

   * With official dates decided, we can finally book Banski Dvor for
hosting the conference as well as Hotel Bosnia as primary
 accommodation option.
   * During booking of Hotel(s), we should see if it's possible to get
a discount on a large group. I know it's a cheap shot, but it
would definitely be a plus in our budget.
   * Also, make sure to check out whatever is provided for guests
(towels, pillows, sheets...) so we can tell people what they need
to bring, in case it's not provided by hotel.
   * Check out what technical equipment is available in Banski Dvor and
what will need to be brought. ( Where can I find info on previous
DC technical logistics, what equipment and in which amount was
 used for the conference? )

Budget, Costs, Sponsorships

   * Time to make 'Financial Team'. We need someone who can keep record
of all costs, income, outcome and all available budget.
   * We made a 'budget draft' in our paper for Government, but it's
based only on statistics from previous DCs, so it has a margin of
error. Nonetheless, I think we should base our future planning on
