Another point ub module has read and writes that are slower than good
old usb-storage module. Don't have the timing here but their is a real
difference.

Good luck.

pppoe on pure64 sid

2004-11-19 Thread Alexandru Cabuz
I just got done installing pure64 on my new box, kde3.3, mozilla,
everything works smooth, except that I can't get on the internet,
which is strange because I did a netinstall. During the install I was
able to set up pppoe, and then that's how I downloaded the whole
system. Let aptitude run all night basically.

Well, after a couple of reboots, it won't work anymore. More precisely
after I do pon dsl-provider here is what ifconfig says.

Check your /etc/resolv.conf for PPP's DNS servers. If it is empty or has
the wrong DNS IPs, then your PPP or resolvconf setup is messed up.

If resolv.conf is correct, try to traceroute to each of the DNS server
IPs and see if you have a routing problem to them.

I don't think this should be here if you have the plugin for pppoe
loaded. I don't think it gets used anyhow in that case.

But if everything works by IP but not name, then you probably just have
the wrong settings in /etc/resolv.conf for the nameserver.

New AMD64 User - Mainboard Query

2004-11-19 Thread Peter A. Cole
Hi all,

I'll be a new AMD64 user in a week or two when I get my new PC, but before I
order it, I wanted to find out if it's supported.

I'm planning on getting a Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M with an Athlon 64 3000+ and a
SATA HDD as these items fit within my budget. The new socket 939 CPU's and
boards don't unfortunately.

I've searched around and found very little information on whether or not this
configuration will work successfully with AMD64.

I've been running Sarge on a for quite a while now, so I'm not new to Debian,
just the AMD64 port.

Anyone tried this board successfully? Anything I should be aware of?

Thanks,

Pete

Check your /etc/resolv.conf for PPP's DNS servers. If it is empty

Yep. It was empty. I put in three of the dns servers I knew, and now
it's flying.

Thanks!

Generally most of the hardware should work. However, the said can't be
said if the onboard SATA RAID is fakeraid (ex. Promise) - their RAID
functionality is proprietary fakeraid and you'd be better off using
Linux software RAID

Thanks Paolo,

Sorry, my initial reply went directly to you instead of the list...

I'm not intending to use RAID at all, just the one 80GB SATA hard drive.

I believe the RAID is Gigabyte's own GigaRAID anyway, but I haven't used it
before and don't intend to at this point in time.
