I tried using "make CC=gcc-3.4" but now I'm getting all sorts of compilation errors. At first, I got: cx88-input.c:196: error: `ir_codes_hauppauge_new' undeclared (first use in this function) I found that this seemed to be something that has been added to the kernel after 2.6.11, so I commented out the one reference to it (it has to do with IR control, which I don' t intend on using). I downloaded the amd64 package from azureus.sf.net, and got now a slightly different (md5, the most are the same) files under /usr/local/azureus compared to yours. But it works out of the box with my normal debian java-package build sun-java installation! Yeah! Finally! :-). There was a little error message about the updater plugin, but it updated the updater plug-in flawlessy it self ?-) What a service! So I assume, that there are some (maybe swt gtk java) classes in the debian system, that either doesn't work with azureus or that are not in the searchpath. Maybe the azureus script of the deb is broken. I'm wondering if there are any amd64 user who are able to run the debian packages with java from sun.com build by java-package? Thank you very much. I don't know what this means regarding to the deb package or my installation (mixed system), no clue, and very confusing, but at least I have azureus working! For me this is a happy ending, until someone wants to clear the reason why with my (poor) aid. Kind regards Gerhard

pcHDTV driver problems
Hi. I just bought a pcHDTV tuner card and I'm trying to compile the driver for it. I dowloaded the version 2.0 driver from their website and compiled it by typing "make" with no problems. I had to make a few changes to the Makefile in order for "make install" to work. The changes just followed the instructions someone else had already posted at: http://pchdtv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=580 After that, I run "modprobe cx88-dvb" and I get the following error messages: WARNING: Error inserting dvb_pll (/lib/modules/2.6.11-9-amd64-k8/v4l2/dvb-pll.ko): Invalid module format WARNING: Error inserting cx22702 (/lib/modules/2.6.11-9-amd64-k8/v4l2/cx22702.ko): Invalid module format WARNING: Error inserting dvb_core (/lib/modules/2.6.11-9-amd64-k8/v4l2/dvb-core.ko): Invalid module format WARNING: Error inserting video_buf_dvb (/lib/modules/2.6.11-9-amd64-k8/v4l2/video-buf-dvb.ko): Invalid module format WARNING: Error inserting or51132 (/lib/modules/2.6.11-9-amd64-k8/v4l2/or51132.ko): Invalid module format WARNING: Error inserting tveeprom (/lib/modules/2.6.11-9-amd64-k8/v4l2/tveeprom.ko): Invalid module format WARNING: Error inserting ir_common (/lib/modules/2.6.11-9-amd64-k8/v4l2/ir-common.ko): Invalid module format WARNING: Error inserting mt352 (/lib/modules/2.6.11-9-amd64-k8/v4l2/mt352.ko): Invalid module format FATAL: Error inserting cx88_dvb (/lib/modules/2.6.11-9-amd64-k8/v4l2/cx88-dvb.ko): Invalid module format The same type of thing happens if I run "modprobe cx88-atsc" Running dmesg gives a clue as to what is happening: dvb_pll: version magic '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4' cx22702: version magic '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4' dvb_core: version magic '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4' video_buf_dvb: version magic '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4' or51132: version magic '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4' tveeprom: version magic '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4' ir_common: version magic '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4' mt352: version magic '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4' cx88_dvb: version magic '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.11-9-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4' Do I just have to use a different version of gcc for the driver? If so, how do I do that? I can't seem to find where in the Makefile it specifies which gcc version to use. Has anyone compiled the pcHDTV driver on a debian AMD64 machine and gotten it to work? If so, how? I couldn't find much information about this on the web, so if I'm being stupid just point me to the correct web pages. Thanks, Sunil

When you run the problematic version of dvd::rip from a terminal, you'll notice that it prints a warning about not being able to load libdl.so. It seems that this is caused by whatever nasty hackery dvd::rip does to work around some supposed NPTL bugs in transcode. Go to the Misc Options tab of dvd::rip's preferences and turn that sillyness off. -- Will Dyson

This system can't even run amd64 and certainly wouldn't use an amd64 kernel. It is just a plain simple i386 system (although a nice one). Re: gcc4: What deb-src line to put in sources.list?
Andreas Jochens wrote: With that deb-src line you should be able to get the sources for the patched packages. However, I must admit that I did not yet check if that really works. Additionally, you need a second deb-src line which points to a regular debian mirror to get the sources for the unpatched packages. OK, I've put the second line there. Now my sources.list looks like this: deb http://debian-ppc64.alioth.debian.org/gcc4 unstable main contrib non-free deb-src http://debian-ppc64.alioth.debian.org/gcc4 unstable main deb-src http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/linux/debian unstable main It doesn't work: $ LC_ALL=C apt-src install libarts1 Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done E: Handler silently failed E: Failed to download arts If I comment out the deb-src line pointing to alioth, it downloads correctly. But this way I'd always get the source not patched for gcc4. Anyway, the patches used by the gcc4 archive are also available from http://debian-ppc64.alioth.debian.org/gcc4/patches with file names that reflect the package name and the version number. Thanks, I can live with that. Regards Michal -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

With that deb-src line you should be able to get the sources for the patched packages. However, I must admit that I did not yet check if that really works. Additionally, you need a second deb-src line which points to a regular debian mirror to get the sources for the unpatched packages. Anyway, the patches used by the gcc4 archive are also available from http://debian-ppc64.alioth.debian.org/gcc4/patches with file names that reflect the package name and the version number. gcc4: What deb-src line to put in sources.list?
Hello, I have this line in my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb-src http://debian-ppc64.alioth.debian.org/gcc4 unstable main but it doesn't work. Source packages seem to be missing on this server. Where can I get the source packages for the gcc4 repository? Regards Michal -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

A tar.bz2 archive will be placed in /usr/src/. Untar this archive. Then, cd into the resulting source directory. There, you will find a README.Debian file which will contain a very good mini-howto on the tools & techniques of compiling a Debian kernel-image. cmr > -- > Rupert Heesom <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- Debian 'Sarge': Registered Linux User #241964 "More laws, less justice." -- Marcus Tullius Ciceroca, 42 BC -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Check /proc/cpuinfo for multiple CPUs. If it shows more than one you already have an smp kernel otherwise you can install one with apt-get. Also if you run D-I in expert mode or lower the debconf priority from the main menu prior to installing the kernel you get a asked to pick a kernel. AW: How to install SMP kernel?
Compiling a kernel is pretty much the same thing: You configure it and than compile it. Whilst compiling, you will use a tool called make-kpkg, there read the --help for options and targets, usually make-kpkg --bzimage kernel-image would do the trick... This creates a .deb, which you can install with dpkg -i kernel$%%/()&.deb Thats basicaly it with installing kernels under debian. ingo -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Rupert Heesom [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Gesendet: Donnerstag, 19.
