Re: dpkg-architecture issues/vmware

2005-08-26 Thread simon
I did have 1.10.28 from sarge, but I upgraded gcc to build a package earlier. I
will change the link to point to the right one.

I got dpkg from amd64.debian.net unstable, I think. But I may be wrong.

Thanks for your help.

Also - forgive the newbie question - but can someone tell me how to 'downgrade'
a package? Is it a matter of removing it completely then picking the right apt
source to install from?

how are you compiling the debian kernel? with fakeroot or on your own.

you may need a few more .deb's installed.

Well I have an Asus A8V Deluxe, which uses the VIA K8T800 chipset, and
everything works great for me so far. I doubt gigabyte did anything
wrong in the design that would make it not work.

The network on the asus is a gigabit marvell yuken pci chip, which works
fine. Some newer models use a PCIe model which requires a kernel newer
than 2.6.8 to work apparently.

Downgrading dpkg will cause some trouble. You will have to remove the

OPenoffice libs cannot be found

2005-08-26 Thread Hans

Message:

Re: Evolution doesn't start anymore because of a dbus problem

2005-08-26 Thread Ernest jw ter Kuile

Are you sure this is related to amd64 ? or even Debian ?
Maybe you would get a beter answer if you would search on the Evolution site.

Anyway, after a quick reading through your mail I would try :
- Remove package evolution-plugins;
- Start evolution;
- Search for and un-check evil option about sending a message to dbus;
- Re-install package evolution-plugins.

And don't you _ever_ touch that check box again ;o)

Alternatively figure out which of the many plugins is attempting the evil
deed, and ... shoot it ('rm' will work too).

If it doesn't help, sorry.

I cannot uncheck that option since the program crashes immediately; I

I am running

Linux version 2.6.8-11-amd64-generic ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
(gcc version 3.4.4 20050314 (prerelease) (Debian 3.4.3-13))

I want to recompile the kernel mainly because I want framebuffer support.

Using make-kpkg I get the following warning:

$make-kpkg --initrd --revision=custom.1.0 kernel_image
dpkg-architecture: warning: Unknown gcc system type x86_64-linux-gnu,
falling back to default (native compilation)
dpkg-architecture: warning: Specified GNU system type x86_64-linux
does not match gcc system type x86_64-linux-gnu.
dpkg-architecture: warning: Unknown gcc system type x86_64-linux-gnu,
falling back to default (native compilation)

Is it true?:

Please ignore the warning about overriding and ignoring targets above.
These are harmless. They are only invoked in a part of the process
that tries to snarf variable values for the conf.vars file.
