Using Azureus and Eclipse. Maybe you're using software that is not well

Temperature problem with 2.6.14-2.6.15

2005-12-28 Thread v0n0
Hi, I'd want to use newer kernels, but there's a trouble with the
temperature of the cpu: with 2.6.8 all is ok, instead using 2.6.14 or
2.6.15 cause a freeze of the temperature monitor. So if I power on,
initial temperature is about 34-35 °C or less and fan is off. But next
it won't activate itself, because even if powernowd is working (scaling
is ok), fan is linked to cpu temp, that is blocked. It is not so nice...
Could I make anything against this?
Thanks

this. That case has to be avoided.

We might have to do some hacks to make this work right. One idea would
be to have libc6 contain a real directory /usr/lib32 and create
/usr/lib32 as link beforehand in preinst (or convert it to one if it
is a dir).

Thoughts?

Or 32 bit packages could have files under /emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib

 Ok, tested skype some more.
Strange effects here. While it starts in KDE the small S Icon junping
around for a LONG time, as if it still tries to access some data. Skype
is available and running and the small icon still jumps on...
 Any ideas?
I think is related to KDE, but not to 32bit.
AND: I can use skype fairly normal, but skype won't close the sound
 device after accessing the microphone.
I used the echo123 user - til the point the microphone is activated, I
can cancel the call and start it again with no problem (I get the sound
 of the hangup).
But as soon as the microphone is activated, I don't get the hungup sound
and a retry tells me problem with sound device.
 Strange...
If you look on my page you'll understand why. Skype for Linux is
crappy. I hope Openwengo development won't take so much. However
thanks for testing!

powernowd allows dynamic cpu frequency and core voltage scaling.

For instance, my 1800MHz (1.5V) runs at 1001MHz (1.1V) most of the time.
Of course, the side effect is lower power (heat) dissipation so the
fan(s) can slow down.

My 2GHz Athlon64 Mobile runs nearly all the time at 798MHz. But I
noticed that if I click Setup Helper Application in KLaptop (so
klaptop_acpi_helper becomes suid), my laptop uses all the power with no
scaling (might be a profile problem?). I'm using KDE 3.4 but it was the
same in 3.3.
To let powernowd work again I had to manually chmod -s
/usr/bin/klaptop_acpi_helper.
I suggest to never enable it, because it has only 2 profiles: userspace
(min freq), performance (max freq). So frequencies in the middle will
never be used. Athlon64 (and Turion I think) has at least 4 operation modes.

While the video card should work at least with 2d, the wireless will
work since, from what I can see on HP website, it uses a broadcom

Kwin + Kompmgr = eye candy

2005-07-27 Thread v0n0
For those who want to try translucency without waiting for the ABI
transition of KDE there is an unoffical repository:

deb http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg/ unstable main

I'm running it without major problems (even if apt-listbugs listed 1
grave bug for kde-base and 1 for kdm), but sometimes glitches occur in
some windows. This version has Kwin compiled with support for Kompmgr
and there are even other necessary libraries. I think it has been
ported from ubuntu.

Any ideas, apart from digging around in the ia32-libs? I may try the

disappointing.

Which version did you try? Free? I've never seen it! Maybe you can try

GCC is getting picker (as it follows standards more closely) and I

I tried these possibilities:

but none of them seems right. I checked wx sources in string.h and in

The message 'Alarm clock' might be a warning from cdrecord. It stops working

I did an apt-upgrade a few minutes ago, but I don't know if my cdrecord

cdrecord.

of the system raises up to 60% when it normally is at 0,25%!!! After a
while a get a message like CPU overload, aborting. This problem is not
Juk related because the same thing happens with Mplayer and XMMS if I
use them with aRts. No troubles if I select ALSA. But unfortunately I
can't choose any other server than aRts with Juk! Is there anybody that
solved this problem? (I tried putting ALSA instead of Autodetect in my
sound system options as I read in a post but it didn't work for me!) Thanks
PS: I'm using aRts 1.3.2-2 with kernel version 2.6.8-10-amd64-k8 in
Debian pure64 and my audio card uses intel8x0 module

From pure64 to gcc-3.4

2005-02-11 Thread v0n0
Hi all, will it be possible to switch from a pure64 distro to that
compiled with new gcc when this will be more stable? Or it will create
incompatibilities? Is there a real increase of performance? Thanks
