Have a look at ifplugd.

Is there some way to support roaming to pick up any of a list of access
 points automatically?

You can create multiple network definitions in /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
and configure the authentication method, (if any), for each network you
use.

I have very little experience with wireless on linux, but so far it
looks to me to be in serious need of someone combining all the required
tools into a single daemon that can automatically maintain the link for
 you.

There is definitely a lot of work to do on the wireless front for Linux.

Hi,

I have been lurking on this list for a few months, trying to find an
answer to the IPN2220 driver. This was main issue keeping me apart on
using Debian amd64 actively was the support for this wireless card.

Yes it works. I've tested it yesterday by night, and it ran smoothly
with my access point. I'm even using it with WPA (with the aid of the
wpasupplicant software), with the same configuration that was working
flawlessly on my 32 bits Debian installation. Now I can take full
profit of my Acer 1525WLMi notebook.

Best regards,
Felipe

P.s.: This is my first message to this list, and I'm happy I'm posting
a solution rather than a problem. Congratulations for all you guys
that made Debian AMD64 possible!

IPN2220 is working right now on my FC3 x86_64 !

I checked out the latest CVS version (1.4rc1) and compiled it with
the the usual

 make INPROCOMM_AMD64=1
 and

 make INPROCOMM_AMD64=1 install

I used the driver suggested in
 http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.php?showtopic=19517
and renamed the .inf file as explained in the document.

Once the driver was loaded i only had to set WEP encryption
parameters and IP address

 and the driver worked perfectly.

 Hope this helps

Can anybody test it on Debian AMD64 (actually I have not an access
point)?

 Thanks,
 Giulio

NICE!

I have an Acer 1524wlmi, I suppose it's working for me too:)
Have you tested with home-access-point? Eventually what's your model?

Thanks,
Giulio

I tested it with an Asus WL-500g Deluxe wireless router
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=12l2=43l3=0model=359modelmenu=1.
I didn't test yet with any other access point, but I dont see why it
would not work, once it worked with one.

Felipe

I'm using static addresses, and I have not tested yet the case of
loosing link (the wireless signal is quite good in my whole house).

I also don't have much experience with wireless on linux. I'm also
looking for some tips on how to have an automatic wireless setup
utility.

Felipe

I use little script in cron 1min.

--[begin]--
#!/bin/bash
export LANBOX=192.168.0.5 #ip of box behind AP like DSL router
export LINKED=`/bin/ping $LANBOX -c 1 | grep 100\%\ los | wc -l`

if [ $LINKED != 0 ]
then
/etc/init.d/wifi restart
fi
--[end]--

wifi is simple script that call dhcp/aessupplicant with restart
option
