Upgrading nvidia drivers to 1.0-9629 compiz works:)

I have tested beryl too, same problems

Is this debian-user for amd64? It's hard to tell from lists.debian.org.
I think debian-user would be a better place for your questions since
they are likely not 64-bit specific.

I mean, amd64 will be the most common platform within the next year or
two so it doesn't need a port-specific user list.

Its Debian Etch (64 of course, otherwise I wouldn't be posting here), and as
far as Compiz is concerned, my packages are straight from the testing
repository. Nevertheless, here are the versions of the most important
packages:

KDE = 4:3.5.5.dfsg.1-1 (probably doesn't matter at all)
compiz = 0.2.0-1
xserver-xorg = 1:7.1.0-6
linux-image = 2.6.18 custom built

Only notable difference from a typical debian testing box, is that I'm always
backporting the proprietary Nvidia drivers from unstable. I've been using the
8774 drivers, but I read that you need the 9 series to support AIGLX, so I
backported the nvidia drivers from experimental (1.0.9625-2).

My gfx card is 6600GT, on an Asus K8N-E, rest does not matter I think...

Dimitris

PS: There is a conflict with the 9625 drivers and kernels that have the EEPROM
module compiled and loaded. In this case you get a normal boot sequence, no
hangs or anything, but the screen is blank instead of a prompt, or GDM, or
something. Simple solution, unload the EEPROM module (1)

It doesn't work for me:( and beryl doesn't work too. It "deletes" window
borders like compiz.

very useful "exposè" effect:) too

could you give us the version you are using of the packages?

what kind of video card are you using?

I have a segfault of gtk-window-decorator.

thanks.

I thought it would be a waste of time, cumbersome eyecandy and such, but

this
thing appears to be much faster and lighter than the built-in KDE support
for
the composite extension. Sweet :)

It doesn't work for me. But I have not "gnome-window-decorator", I have only
"gtk-window-decorator". I have installed compiz-gnome too, but it doesn't
contain "gnome-window-decorator". However, I read in a guide to launch this if
borders vanishing:

rm -r ~/.gconf/apps/compiz/

and restart gnome. But it doesn't work for me too:)

Re: compiz windows without borders

2006-11-17 Thread Daniel Foote

Hello.

I followed this guide to install compiz on debian unstable:

http://wiki.debian.org/Compiz

(and other 2 little guides not in english)

but when I launch from shell "compiz --replace &" window borders
vanishing and windows are not more clickable.

I use nvidia 5700 with last drivers available on unstable repository.

Have you any idea?

Unlike most other window managers, compiz does not draw window borders.

Instead, drawing window borders is handled by "gnome-window-decorator"
or "gtk-window-decorator". You should start that before compiz.

Hope that helps...

Daniel Foote.
