 Hi

Around the same time, I noticed something odd about dpkg.
dpkg-architecture (at version 1.13.1.11 of dpkg) gives:

Where did you get that version of dpkg? In sarge it's 1.10.28 in
sid it's 1.13.11 and in etch is should be 1.13.10.

 dpkg-architecture
dpkg-architecture: warning: Unknown gcc system type x86_64-linux-gnu,
falling back to default (native compilation)
dpkg-architecture: warning: Specified GNU system type x86_64-linux does
not match gcc system type x86_64-linux-gnu.

This means your gcc and dpkg do not have a version that go
together.

I did have 1.10.28 from sarge, but I upgraded gcc to build a package earlier. I
will change the link to point to the right one.

I got dpkg from amd64.debian.net unstable, I think. But I may be wrong.

Thanks for your help.

Also - forgive the newbie question - but can someone tell me how to 'downgrade'
a package? Is it a matter of removing it completely then picking the right apt
source to install from?

Downgrading dpkg will cause some trouble. You will have to remove the
'log' line from the dpkg config in /etc/dpkg/ after downgrading or dpkg
won't run anymore.

You can either:

apt-get install package/stable
or
apt-get install package=versionnumber

I've managed to get nvidia drivers and madwifi working on my amd64 box,

I installed vmware 5 in ubuntu hoary amd64 (yes, it's not sarge, but it
is amd64), it worked fine without an vmware-any-any patches. What
version are you using ? Are the modules loading ?
