Bug#258713: apache2-common: init-script not failsafe

2004-07-11 Thread Michael Bergbauer
Package: apache2-common
Version: 2.0.50-4
Severity: important

The initscript contains some code that is not failsafe, at least on
my system. It stumbles over

|for envkey in `env| cut -d'=' -f1`
|do
|unset $envkey
|done

when I have an TERMCAPS entry in my environment:

|TERMCAP=SC|screen|VT 100/ANSI X3.64 virtual terminal:\

Thus, using it from a shell is impossible without manipulation the
environment beforehand.

Probably a grep -v ^ to filter out lines starting with spaces is
approriate to fix that

Bug#241579: Apache2 start scripts env-clear-loop

2004-07-11 Thread Sami Kesaniemi
Hello

The most recent /etc/init.d/apache2 has a for-loop to clear the environment
starting at line 6:

for envkey in `env| cut -d'=' -f1`
do
unset $envkey
done

This causes problems, since my root's environment has a multiline entry
(TERMCAP) starting like:

TERMCAP=SC|screen|VT 100/ANSI X3.64 virtual terminal:\
:DO=\E[%dB:LE=\E[%dD:RI=\E[%dC:UP=\E[%dA:bs:bt=\E[Z:\
:cd=\E[J:ce=\E[K:cl=\E[H\E[J:cm=\E[%i%d;%dH:ct=\E[3g:\
[...]

Naturally this breaks things as env|cut doesn't handle it properly. Why not
use env -i to clear the environment?

Sami Kesäniemi

Hi Fredrik

On Sat, 10 Jul 2004, Fredrik Åslund wrote:

/usr/local/bin or /usr/local/sbin is not included in the default PATH
environment for apache. Aren't those common enough to be considered
default? Any CGI-script that uses programs not shipped with Debian requires
their own PATH environment to be set (or a hard-coded path to the
 program).

The PATH environment should be set to something like

   PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin

Thanks for spotting this problem that evolved in more than that. Actually
the PATH is completely wrong since none of the sbin entries should be
required for apache. In any case a fix is pending in our CVS that will
include /usr/local/bin as well.
