Bug#141166: boot-floppies: Network configuration should not use auto for PCMCIA network cards
Package: boot-floppies Version: N/A; reported 2002-04-04 Severity: normal PCMCIA network configuration during installation has moved from the network.opts file to the /etc/network/interfaces file, which is good. However, the current installation procedure places something similar to the following in this file: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp The auto eth0 should be omitted since it causes the normal boot procedure to try to configure the PCMCIA ethernet connection, which is not available at that time. This will be done later by cardmgr, which will run ifup eth0 when a network card has been detected and powered up. Translate Debiandoc documents via PO file
[Reply-To set to debian-doc] Hello translators, I worked on some utilities to help managing translations of Debiandoc SGML documents; they are inspired by poxml, designed by KDE documentation team. The goal is to extract strings from documents, write them in a PO file, translate it as usual, and build a translated document by mixing markup of original document and translated strings. There are many advantages, e.g. paragraph move between documents cause no more headache. Here is what I did to upgrade boot-floppies/documentation/dselect-beginner.fr.sgml from English CVS 1.16 to 1.22: $ cvs update -r 1.16 dselect-beginner.sgml $ debiandoc2po dselect-beginner.sgml dselect-beginner.fr.sgml dselect-beginner.fr.po (there is a warning about a paragraph mismatch, iy is easily found when editing dselect-beginner.fr.po and looking for a shift between msgid and msgstr) Fill in PO header $ cvs update -A dselect-beginner.sgml $ debiandoc2pot dselect-beginner.sgml dselect-beginner.pot $ msgmerge dselect-beginner.fr.po dselect-beginner.pot db.fr.po Translate fuzzy and untranslated strings in db.fr.po $ mv db.fr.po dselect-beginner.fr.po $ po2debiandoc dselect-beginner.sgml dselect-beginner.fr.po dselect-beginner.fr.sgml This package is available under http://people.debian.org/~barbier/devel/po-debiandoc/ I will continue to work on it (e.g. marked sections cause trouble) and will package it when it is ready. They start in around, uh, five or size hours or so. When ftp.debian.org has a disks-i386/base-images-3.0.21-2002-04-04 directory you should be right. You seem to be the first person to actually try these disks, so if you could send a report if they actually turn out to work, that'd be helpful. Yes, the bf2.4 kernel is described in the woody release notes as an experimental flavor. The default kernel for woody on i386 is 2.2. Putting an experimental non-default kernel on the first CD is probably not a good idea. However, debian-boot doesn't decide what the default kernel is on i386 (who does?). If someone wants to revisit the question of what the default kernel should be perhaps such a discussion is appropriate on debian-devel. Well, apparently the people to wrote the standard thought otherwise... Maybe it's a matter of getting used tot them combined with personal taste. That's why it would be good if browsers support selecting which links to show, if any. Other pages have 3 links, to previous, next and toc pages. This looks like the right thing to do. Well, file a wishlist with your wishes. I'm always open to suggestions. And often the only way to get such suggestions is by doing the wrong thing, unintentional (like in this case) or intentional.
