Bug#517044: Debian-installer
Package: debian-installer Version is nightly 2008-02-24 I tried to install into a VirtualBox virtual machine on a Windows Vista host, but the hard drive is not recognised. I was prompted to choose a driver but PIIX does not work. The lenny installer does work, so obviously I used that.

The installation is preseeded from the old environment on flash, that is the configuration in the config partition of the original thecus firmware. This makes sense for the initial install, but less so when doing a reinstallation. In this case the old firmware was installed with a static ip, which didn't make any sense at all in the network i was installing in. Bug#515975: I can confirm
I can confirm your bug, my syslog, kern.log and messages files grow very rapidly with these kernel trace messages. Also the ethetrnet-card is not recognized during installation of Debian/squeeze, so I had to use a separate 3Com eth-card. My system is a HP Compaq dc7900 Convertible Minitower. I installed a newer debian kernel 2.6.28 from the trunk path described in http://wiki.debian.org/DebianKernel Latest from /dists/trunk (targeted for experimental/sid) deb http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel trunk main After that, the kernel trace messages were gone. Also the eth Intel 82567LM-3 is recognized. And I do confirm Debian rocks! :-) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#517114: more info
retitle 517114 please enable the prompt to enter preseeding url severity 517114 normal thanks After more testing and a few chats on IRC, the aim of this bug report is actually to re-enable the prompt so that when Automatic Install is selected without editing the boot command line, the user is prompted for the url of the pre-seeding file. This is a far more convenient way to use pre-seeding, especially for distributions like Emdebian Grip where pre-seeding is essential to allow d-i to adapt to Emdebian modifications. It was present in the daily builds before rc2 but was, apparently, dropped from the final release code due to a regression related to DHCP. It would be a significant enhancement to Emdebian if the prompt could be reinstated for Debian 5.0.1. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ http://e-mail.is-not-s.ms/ pgpFm7cOTdtej.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#517138: Difficulties after pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2 to enter console after selecting a graphical install
package: debian-installer version: 20090123 When I select a graphical install, regular or expert, and press Ctrl+Alt+F2, at first things appear fine. However, when I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to re-enter the graphical install, the graphical installation is no longer visible, and instead there are lines of text on a black background. If I had entered the console after completing the first installation step, then I can press Ctrl+C, in which case the present installation step will be aborted and I can start it again. However, if I had entered the console during the first installation step, then after pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then Ctrl+C, the install hangs with error messages interrupted by subliminal flashing of the first installation step, and the system must be rebooted. I have been able to reproduce these bugs. I was trying to install Debian Lenny -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Maybe we should add some text documenting that on VT1. Samuel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
