No, vanilla has USB support too.

Yes, it has, but it seems that the modules are not loaded by default on
vanilla unlike bf2.4.

Bug#142473: boot-floppies: a Japanese translation is too long

2002-04-11 Thread Kaz Sasayama
Package: boot-floppies
Version: 3.0.22

The Japanese translation for "Install LILO in the MBR (use this if
unsure)." is too long. It takes 70 columns and the dialog box becomes
too wide to fit in a screen.

Can we use Linux 2.4 for custom boot floppies?

2001-12-18 Thread Kaz Sasayama
Excuse me if anyone has got an answer for this question, but can we use
Linux 2.4 for custom boot floppies with Woody? Or will Woody use Linux
2.4 in boot floppies by default?

Re: USB-Support and keyboard driver should go into kernel image

2001-10-29 Thread Kaz Sasayama

Sorry, it should not be PC2002 but PC2001. The PC2001 design guide must
have been published in 2000, and some drafts must be available since 1999.

If your system is not PC2001-based and legacy emulation does not work
transparently, I'm afraid it may be just a BIOS bug.

No, it is a board from 1999 with the good old KT133 chipset.

Re: USB-Support and keyboard driver should go into kernel image

2001-10-28 Thread Kaz Sasayama

Which mainboard are you using? In many cases, BIOS legacy emulation
should work transparently to any OS by using SMI. If your system does
not work like that, it might be a fairly new PC2002-based board. I hope
you can help to improve USB keyboard support in Debian.

Eduard Bloch wrote:

now I got an USB keyboard and tried to use it. Bad news: even when the
BIOS keyboard emulation is enabled, and the keyboard works fine in DOS,
it cannot be used in Linux at all unless the device driver is loaded.
This is very nasty. You cannot use an USB keyboard on BFs, not in the
initrd shell. I suggest all kernel-image maintainers to enable

CONFIG_USB=y
CONFIG_USB_UHCI=y
CONFIG_USB_OHCI=y
CONFIG_USB_KBD=y
CONFIG_INPUT_KEYBDEV=y

Network (re-)setup after the first HD reboot possible?

2001-10-21 Thread Kaz Sasayama
I see the network setup in Debian is currently done while the installer
is running. Is the network (re-)setup after the first HD reboot possible
in Woody or later?

I'd like to leave the network interfaces unconfigured until the first HD
reboot so that pre-installed Debian systems can be configured properly
by end users.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Any support for legacy-free systems? (was: Re: Can a rescue floppy load some modules before the installer starts?)

2001-10-18 Thread Kaz Sasayama

I tried to collect information on the Web about the legacy-free systems
really sold on the market. Fujitsu and Hitach appeared to sell a few
legacy-free models, but most vendors seemed still conservative to such
configurations. So for a short-term solution, it might be OK to just
note on a install document that some new legacy-free systems won't boot
well with any official Debian boot floppies while the situmation may
change in one or two years. We should be able to do better with
legacy-free systems when they could be more popular, shouldn't we?
