Bug#1023485: Shipped blkid is incompatible with the one in util-linux, break cryptsetup

2022-11-05 Thread Vincent Bernat
Package: busybox-static
Version: 1:1.35.0-3
Severity: important

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hey!

blkid was added as an applet in busybox. This makes it available in initramfs in
place of the one from util-linux. This prevents cryptsetup to works as the
syntax used is not recognized by busybox.

 10:58 ❱ blkid -l -t UUID=255e21df-9261-47b5-ac37-b4ae4c435a37 -o device
/dev/nvme0n1p3
 10:59 ❱ busybox blkid -l -t UUID=255e21df-9261-47b5-ac37-b4ae4c435a37 -o device
 10:59 ❱ sudo busybox blkid -l -t UUID=255e21df-9261-47b5-ac37-b4ae4c435a37 -o
device

cryptsetup-initramfs could parse the output of busybox blkid, but this seems
more fragile. It seems easiest to not ship blkid in busybox (hence the bug
against busybox).

Bug#856669: do not mess with running X session

2017-03-03 Thread Vincent Bernat
Package: keyboard-configuration
Version: 1.163
Severity: minor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hey!

When upgrading keyboard-configuration, the layout of my running
session is messed up. I am using per-keyboard configuration (with
xkbcomp) with some complex configuration and I cannot reproduce the
same thing with just setxkbmap.

I think keyboard-configuration shouldn't change the settings of a
running X server. Or at least, it should be made configurable. Looking
at the postinst script, I don't see an easy way to opt out.

Thanks!

Bug#413645: debian-installer-manual: In appendix D.3,should mention the existence of linux-image-2.6-arch metapackage

I have finished about bug reports. ;-) Next time, I will combine them into

Bug#413649: debian-installer-manual: Appendix D.3 should mention how to set password and ssh

2007-03-06 Thread Vincent Bernat
Package: debian-installer-manual
Severity: minor

Hi !

When doing a remote installation using appendix D.3, we could add this
in paragraph D.3.7. :

If you do a remote installation, do not forget to install a SSH server:

aptitude install ssh

And don't forget to set root password:

passwd root

Those two steps are mandatory to be able to connect remotely before
reboot. Maybe we should also advocate the install of fuser to be able
to umount partitions :

 fuser -mk /var
 fuser -mk /home
 fuser -mk /usr

Logoff from the chroot

 umount /mnt/debinst

We are not sure that the host system will do all those steps
(especially for /var, /home, /usr in the chroot).

Bug#413647: debian-installer-manual: In Appendix D.3, common problem with Grub

2007-03-06 Thread Vincent Bernat
Package: debian-installer-manual
Severity: minor

Hi !

Each time I install a Debian using Appendix D.3, I run into a problem
when using grub-install :

Could not find device for /boot: Not found or not a block device.

The solution is to use the following command before :

cat /proc/mounts > /etc/mtab

Here is the wording :

You may get this error when executing grub-install:

Could not find device for /boot: Not found or not a block device.

In this case, use the following command to solve this issue:

cat /proc/mounts > /etc/mtab

2007-03-06 Thread Vincent Bernat

Hi !

The current debian-installer installs linux-image-2.6-arch
metapackage. In appendix D.3.5, we should mention this metapackage
instead of linux-image-2.6.18-arch.

Bug#413644: debian-installer-manual: /etc/hosts format should follow what is done by the current installer

Hi !

In Appendix D3.4.3, the manual say to use "127.0.0.1 localhost

done by the debian installer :

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.1.1 DebianFullyQualifiedHostName DebianHostName

Bug#413642: debian-installer-manual: After debootstrap, /dev is too minimal to mount partitions

2007-03-06 Thread Vincent Bernat
Package: debian-installer-manual
Severity: normal

Hi !

Following Appendix D.3 on installing Debian from another Unix system,
I think that an additionnal step must be added after editing
/etc/fstab : creation of device nodes.

You may get errors about inexisting special devices:
mount: special device /dev/sda13 does not exist
mount: special device /dev/sda12 does not exist
mount: special device /dev/sda11 does not exist
mount: special device /dev/sda9 does not exist

In this case, use the following commands:
cd /dev
./MAKEDEV sd

Or if you try to install on IDE disks:
cd /dev
./MAKEDEV hd

Inhibit a module

2004-02-20 Thread Vincent Bernat
Hello !

I have tried beta 2 on some laptop, then a snapshot with no success
because the loading of usb-uhci hangs the system. I have tried to boot
with init=/bin/sh, remove the module then exec debian-installer but
the installation fails later due to lack of space. I have tried to
allocate a larger space with tmpfs (100 M), then copy the whole system
on this space, chroot then exec debian-installer but the installer
hangs after the choice of the language. I have tried to boot with
various options to disable usb-uhci with no success.

Is there some steps to disable one particular module ?
