The most easy workaround is to use kaffe to build the package. I tried
this locally and it worked fine.

Bug#299158: catalog has a spurious dependency on libmysqlclient10

2005-03-11 Thread Steve Langasek

Version: 1.03-8

The catalog package depends on libmysqlclient10, but it contains no
architecture-specific code. It should not have a dependency on
libmysqlclient10, which it does not use.

Bug#299159: gda-mysql must be rebuilt against libmysqlclient12

2005-03-11 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: gda-mysql
Version: 0.2.96-6
Severity: grave

Packages connected to apache, odbc, and scripting languages
(python/perl/php/ruby) are in the process of transitioning from
libmysqlclient10 to libmysqlclient12 for sarge. Because libmysqlclient
does not include versioned symbols, it is not possible for multiple

It would be nice if this was better documented (and frankly, using the
initscript which then directly calls run-parts instead of resolvconf
seems a little bit strange to me...)

2005-03-11 Thread Dwayne Rightler
Package: libnss-mysql

I have libnss-mysql installed and it seemed to be working correctly. Running

I went to install a package (stunnel4) after I had configured libnss-mysql and
the install failed due to a segfault of /usr/sbin/adduser. I ran

Bug#298481: problem solved

2005-03-11 Thread Andrew Young
It turned out that the problem was caused by kpathsea not being able
to find the config files. And the reason was that the box had been
converted from Red Hat to Debian, using the debtakeover script.

It seems that RH had an actual directory at

/usr/share/texmf/dvips/config

but Debian has a symbolic link there to /etc/texmf/dvips. The fossil
RH directory had a couple of files in it, but not what the texconfig
script needed when configuring dvips.

I had been able to make the right connection by supplying TEXCONFIG
as an exported environmental variable pointing to /etc/texmf/dvips.
Cleaning out the old RH dir and removing it, and replacing it with the
symbolic link, allows things to work as they should.

There is another symbolic link that needs similar treatment in converting
RH to Debian: /usr/share/texmf/doc should point to /usr/share/doc/texmf
but was a real directory on RH.

Sorry for the confusion; it took a while to discover this hidden
connection. Maybe install scripts should check to see whether directories
are real or the expected symbolic links?

Bug#283858: admin/cvs.sh/extract_messages: location of kde.pot

2005-03-11 Thread Adeodato Simó
Hello,

  kde-config supports '--install include' for a while now, so I wonder
  if it wouldn't make sense to use that to determine the location of the
  kde.pot file in admin/cvs.sh. As in:

  Otherwise, the location is bogus for systems with $includedir !=
  $prefix/include, such as Debian (we use /usr/include/kde). See e.g.
  http://bugs.debian.org/283858.

  If support for KDEDIR is important, one could use:

prefix=${KDEDIR:-`kde-config --prefix`}
kdepotpath=${includedir:-$(eval echo `kde-config --install
include`)}/kde.pot

  If any of the above has flaws, I'll be glad to get noticed.

This started happening today probably as a result of the wishlist bugfix for

  ^^

  Indeed, the Makefile is at fault here, assuming that the installation
  dir for includes is always $KDEDIR/include, since they can be elsewhere
  (e.g., in Debian they are under /usr/include/kde).

> either there should be a /usr/share/kde with apropriate symlinks (as

  Well, these would be workarounds for the real bug. Instead, I'll send
  a patch upstream so that the issue gets fixed in the proper place.
  Also, though I can imagine you already use some kind of workaround
  yourself, I recommend that you invoke make like this:

$ make -f admin/Makefile.common includedir=/usr/include/kde package-messages

  Notice the includedir=/usr/include/kde extra bit.

  Thanks, and sorry again for the delay,

Bug#298518: Directory location

Well, it definitely isn't failing silently for me. If I set the
Content-type: header before calling imagettftext() with a non-existent font,
galeon fails to display the image "because it contains errors". The errors
are the error message from imagettftext(), which says "Could not find/open
font in ...".

Of course setting a Content-type header is going to obscure any text error
messages; and some browsers may even ignore the errors and display the
image. This would not be a PHP bug if that's what you're also seeing.

Bug#299057: mpack: Numbering for duplicate filenames isn't reset with multiple attachments

2005-03-11 Thread Conrad Hughes
Hi Michelle,

Michelle> If I must unpack something like an E-mail, make changes to one
Michelle> or more Attachments and mpack it, the unpacked Attachments
Michelle> should be mumeroted to get the same resultat as the
Michelle> originating file.

Either I'm not understanding you or I didn't make myself clear; perhaps
this will help..

I've attached two files, "foo.txt" and "bar.txt", to this message (I
hope). If you run this email through munpack you'll get two files
called "foo.txt" and "bar.txt", which is correct.

However, if I then run munpack *again* with "foo.txt" and "bar.txt"
*still there*, munpack sees that creating "foo.txt" and "bar.txt" will
overwrite existing files. This is good. Its response is to change the
names. It creates a new file called "foo.txt.1" (which is good), and
another new file called "bar.txt.2" (which I think is a mistake - that
should be "bar.txt.1", not 2). In shell commands:

  % munpack ~/.Mail/drafts/5
  foo.txt (text/plain)
  bar.txt (text/plain)
  % ls
  bar.txt  foo.desc  foo.txt
  % munpack ~/.Mail/drafts/5
  foo.txt.1 (text/plain)
  bar.txt.2 (text/plain)
# ^--- Should be 1!
  % ls
  bar.txt  bar.txt.2  foo.desc  foo.txt  foo.txt.1  foo.txt.desc
#  ^-- Should be 1!

... "bar.txt.2" should be "bar.txt.1".  It's only a small thing, but
still seems like a bug to me.

Bug#299151: awstats: Logo shouldn't be stuck inside of $DirIcons/other

2005-03-11 Thread Charles Fry
Package: awstats
Version: 6.3-1
Severity: normal

Currently, Logo can be set "to use your own logo", but it "must be in
$DirIcons/other directory". I have two problems with this:

1) I want to link to a log already found elsewhere on one of my sites,
and would like to it directly.

2) $DirIcons/other is currently /usr/share/awstats/icon/other, and
according to the FHS: "The /usr/share hierarchy is for all read-only
architecture independent data files." So in a way, this is a violation
of policy. :-(

Anyway, I'll let you find the best way to resolve this; but I see no
reason why $DirIcons/other would be a better location for my logo than
elsewhere.

Bug#299149: please fix priority of gnucash

2005-03-11 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG

Package: ftp.debian.org
Priority: important

For some reason I do not know (I'm a recent maintainer) gnucash is
priority "extra" when it should be "optional". It registers no
conflicts, which would be the usual reason for "extra" priority; it is
really a standard part of gnome and belongs there just as gnumeric
does.

So please change the overrides file to specify priority "optional" for
gnucash.

Bug#299148: awstats: DirData should not be created with 0766 permissions

2005-03-11 Thread Charles Fry
Package: awstats
Version: 6.3-1
Severity: normal

Currently if CreateDirDataIfNotExists is set, DirData is created with
the line:

   my $mkdirok=mkdir "$DirData", 0766;

0766 permissions are not necessary. 0755 would be more appropriate.

First of all, on a Debian installation it is not desirable to make data
directories world writable.

Second, inasmuch as the permissions and ownership of /var/lib/awstats
can control access to the data directories, there is not reason not to
provide read and execute permissions on the data directories, making
them readable by all who /var/lib/awstats allow in.

Hello,
First, I would like to congratulate you for having provided a package
for nvidia driver 7167 so quickly (I take it from incoming).
It compiles properly on kernel 2.6.11, but it fails with -mm* patches tree.
I tried with 2.6.11-mm2, and I succeeded in compiling it by using the
second patch you can find in this page :
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=47405
I leave severity of this bug as "normal" only since this kernel tree is
experimental, but I think it should be applied.

Regards.

Bug#299146: RFA: phpwiki: An informal collaborative website manager

2005-03-11 Thread Matthew Palmer
Package: wnpp,phpwiki
Version: 1.3.7-3
Severity: wishlist

I no longer use PHPWiki myself, and don't have time to do the necessary work
to keep PHPWiki as sharp as it needs to be. Personally, I don't think it's
suitable for release as-is, so anyone who wants to see PHPWiki in Sarge
should probably take the package over and re-assess it's release candidacy.

Bug#299144: Keep PHPWiki out of Sarge

2005-03-11 Thread Matthew Palmer
Package: phpwiki
Severity: serious
Version: 1.3.7-3

I do not believe that the phpwiki package, as-is, is suitable for testing.
It is several minor releases behind upstream, will take significant work to
ensure easy upgrades to the latest upstream version, and has lots of minor
things that make it quirky in live use.

Bug#299143: PhpWikiFarm with a MySQL Back-End

Subject: PhpWikiFarm with a MySQL Back-End

Hi Matt,

I've just finished tearing my hair out trying to make a PhpWikiFarm with
a MySQL Back-End. I'm not usually a documenting kind of guy, but I
enclose the below text in case you can use any of it in the Debian
package docs in future.

Matthew.
--

How to make a PhpWikiFarm with a MySQL Back-End

Step 1

Copy index.php to the place where you want it to live.

Step 2

Edit the include path in section zero of index.php to point to the rest
of the PhpWiki install, eg.:

  ini_set('include_path', '.:/usr/share/phpwiki:/usr/share/php');

Step 3

Edit Part Two: the Database Section of index.php as follows:

  $DBParams = array(
'dbtype' => 'SQL',
'dsn' => 'mysql://db_username:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/db_name',
'timeout' => 10,
'db_session_table' => 'phpwiki_session',
'prefix' => 'phpwiki_'
);

  define('USE_DB_SESSION',true);

The 'phpwiki_' prefix is so we can keep a single MySQL database for each
user for a number of applications (PhpWiki, WordPress, etc.) without
getting a namespace clash.

Step 4

Edit Part Six: URL options. SERVER_NAME, SCRIPT_NAME, and PHPWIKI_DIR
are essential. The whole thing will choke (unable to find templates) if
you don't explicity specify PHPWIKI_DIR, and all links will point back
to the system-wide wiki if you don't set SERVER_NAME (in the case of an
Apache virtual hosts setup) or SCRIPT_NAME properly. I don't know if
DATA_PATH is used if you're using a MySQL backend; it doesn't appear to
be, so I left it alone.

Step 5

Edit the included mysql.sql schema file so that the table names all have
the 'phpwiki_' prefix. i.e.:

  drop table if exists page; CREATE TABLE page (

becomes:

  drop table if exists phpwiki_page; CREATE TABLE phpwiki_page (

Be careful to only change the table names, not the index names.

Step 6

Assuming you already have a database created, slurp in the schema thus:

  # mysql -uuser -ppassword phpwiki

Bug#298915: rhythmbox: Non-FHS-compliant location for ipod directory

2005-03-11 Thread Lee Maguire
I'd assumed ipod support was broken in rhythmbox before seeing this
report, so personally I'd consider the severity higher than minor.

This is just to add that the debian package of gtkpod has used /media/ipod
since December 2004, so it's likely to be used over /mnt/ipod (at least
for new users) in Debian.

Bug#299142: [PATCH] man page and docs for htdbm

2005-03-11 Thread Matt Brubeck
Package: apache2
Version: 2.0.53-5
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

The attached patch adds a man page and web documentation for the "htdbm"
program from the apache2-utils package. Like the other Apache docs, it
includes an XML source file as well as generated HTML and man pages.

This patch was created against httpd-trunk from SVN and has been
submitted upstream for Apache 2.1, but it also applies to Apache 2.0.53
and is suitable for inclusion in Debian.Index: docs/man/htdbm.1

Bug#62529: On dpkg support for binary recompilations

Any packages that do that are already broken for binNMUs -- since
banana/$ARCH will depend on the wrong version of libbanana0/$ARCH. So I
don't think this is an issue.

We could address substvars by ensuring ${Source-Version} is the version
of the source, not the binary, and we therefore get: [...]
The binary version is available in the ${Version} substvar, developers
would have to be extremely careful to ensure that dependencies on
arch-any packages are done with ${Version} and arch-all packages with
${Source-Version}; and that they only do binary-arch when preforming
binary recompilations.
That seems straightforward to me...
This is in breach of current policy (Â 8.5) which says library
development packages should have an exact version dependency on an
arch-any package using ${Source-Version} .
Err, policy says "The ${Source-Version} subsitution variable can be
useful for this purpose" -- it's not a policy violation if it turns out
something else is more useful. It also doesn't say it must/should have
an exact dependency, just that it typically does.

So this would require a policy change, and an extraordinary amount of
care by both the original developers and binary recompilers. I doubt
most people would get it right, leaving us with the same problems we
have today.
The only problem we have today is that you have to use heuristics to
work out what binary versions match what source versions...

Cheers,

Bug#299140: [PATCH] intltool-update: FindPackageName: wrong shell variable names for PACKAGE_NAME

2005-03-11 Thread Peter Moulder
Package: intltool
Version: 0.33-1
Severity: normal

If a package's configure.ac file has

  GETTEXT_PACKAGE="$PACKAGE_NAME"

then FindPackageName fails to expand it.

AC_INIT(mypackage, myversion) defines AC_PACKAGE_NAME m4 macro and
PACKAGE_NAME shell variable (AC_SUBST). Whereas FindPackageName was
assuming that the shell variable was also called $AC_PACKAGE_NAME.

The appended patch is intended to address this problem.

N.B. I haven't tested this patch, as I don't know fully how to reproduce
the original problem; it was reported to me by a user of some software I
help to maintain. I'm sending this patch now just to make sure I don't
forget about it. If I see the user again then I'll ask them about it.

Bug#299141: emacs sometimes dumps core when switching vm folders

2005-03-11 Thread Dirk Eddelbuettel
Package: vm
Version: 7.19-2
Severity: normal

Hi Manoj,

I wish I had a better handle on why/how this happens. I used to read mail in
vm under xemacs (which worked for years even though you always insisted it
wasn't supported) but then switched to mutt as my folders got to big.

About maybe two months ago, I switched back to vm, but as it failed to work
under XEmacs, switched over to GNU Emacs for mail. It is entirely possible
that some part of the old, grown, convoluted paramters and setting in
~/.emacs* and friends have something to do with this bug -- but I am not
sure how would I could tell or find out. I don't really read or program
elisp, I merely adapt the configuration based on docs.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, about once a week vm takes emacs down
hard. This typically happens when a new mail folder is read.

Have you ever come across a bug report like this, and is there something I
could do ... while I cannot actively trigger the bug. I could enable
logging. I tend to remove the (massive) core file.

This is on always current testing, and I am mostly filing this bug to give
us a chance to address this before the release. If you find the bug report
too intagible and feel you need to close it outright, I would not be too
shocked -- though obviously not please either. As I said, I wish I had more
pointers.

Lastly, I'd really appreciate it if you change past practices and enable use
of vm under xemacs.

Best regards,  Dirk

Hm, I can't seem to find where this config option is stored. Where did
you have to change this? It doesn't seem to be in

Bug#299139: libc6: missing support for large dev_t

2005-03-11 Thread Johannes Stezenbach
Package: libc6
Version: 2.3.2.ds1-20

starting from kernel 2.6.11 the DVB drivers support more than 4 cards
by using minor numbers > 255. However, udev fails. Creating nodes
manually with mknod(8) fails, too. udev works when it is built
with USE_KLIBC=true.

Bug#289945 addresses this problem, however I think the fix lacks the update
for the makedev(), major() and minor() macros in /usr/include/sys/sysmacros.h.
glibc-2.3.3 has a fix:

This is more than a convention. This is required by the C standard.

BTW, if the BSS is not zeroed and the data come from another program,
this could be seen a security hole.

I can't reproduce this, prboom/freedoom works fine without timidity for me,
no lockups or anything. (I'm using Intel Corp. 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/
ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01) on a ThinkPad X31)

Indeed, this is completely handled by the SDL mixer, I assume there's a bug
in combination with your specific hardware. I'm reassigning the bug to
libsdl-mixer1.2.

Cheers and thanks for the report,

The you have two copys of the files on your System...

For example I have XFree86 and OpenOffice.org recompiled for my needs,
which mean if aptitude copy the file from a local directory into
/var/cache/apt/archives I have two times 350 MByte of files in my
system.

For what.

You requested a realy bad feature.

Hi,
sorry for the late fix, I was busy with exams. The SIGILLs were caused
by an M4 script for arch specific GCC optimizations introduced in 2.2.6.
As a result the binaries have been optimized for the i686 grade CPU of
the autobuilder, which makes use of the CMOV instruction not present in
your K6 CPU. A fixed package has been send to my sponsor and will probably
appear in sid soon.

Cheers,

With not yet ready KDE 3.4 kdelibs deb no *.la files are necessary.
So the dependency can be removed after KDE 3.4 is in sid.

Eventually kipi-plugins entered sid after a long hold in NEW queue.

Works fine for me, with fuse-utils 1.3.-1: in 0.3-7, I have
specifically reverted my patch to mount.gmailfs so it works with
fusermount 1.3:

  ~/test # dpkg -l fuse-utils | G ii
  ii fuse-utils 1.3-1 Filesystem in USErspace (utilities)

  ~/test # dpkg -l gmailfs | G ii
  ii gmailfs0.3-7 Use your GMail account as a filesystem

  ~/test # sudo which fusermount
  /usr/bin/fusermount

  ~/test # sudo fusermount -h
  fusermount: [options] mountpoint [program [args ...]]
  Options:
   -h   print help
   -u   unmount
   -p check default permissions on files
   -c cache in kernel space if possible
   -x allow other users to access the files (only for root)
   -n name add 'name' as the filesystem name to mtab
   -l   issue large reads
   -q quiet: don't complain if unmount fails

  ~/test # G fusermount /sbin/mount.gmailfs
  os.system("fusermount -n gmailfs -l -c -x '%s' '%s' '%s' '%s'" %
(mountpoint, pyfile, mountpoint, odata) )

  ~/test # s mount.gmailfs none /mnt -o username=,password=,fsname=
  gmailfs.py:Gmailfs:mountpoint: '/mnt'
  gmailfs.py:Gmailfs:unnamed mount options: []
  gmailfs.py:Gmailfs:named mount options: {'username': '', 'password':
'', 'fsname': ''}
  INFO:gmailfs:Connected to gmail

So my take on your problem is that you have the 2.x fusermount
somewhere in your PATH (/usr/local/bin/ comes to mind), that takes
precedence over the fusermount provided by fuse-utils 1.3-1;
fusermount 2.x doesn't want all those options, for instance -n is now
deprecated.

In any case, the fusermount call in mount.gmailfs is definitely a
valid call to fusermount 1.3, as shown above in the "fusermount -v"
output.

> I believe this bug should be re-opened or a new one
> assigned. Basically, the current gmailfs needs the

May I suggest you throroughly test your setup before you judge others'
work ?

Let me know if you still can't get gmailfs 0.3-7 to work on sarge,
with the indications I gave above.

Cheers,

--Seb

I have backed out the fd close patch and am now calling db_stop in the
config script which should prevent 297697 from happening again.

Can you please test the unofficial 4.50-4.0 from
http://zg.debian.zugschlus.de/zg/pool/main/exim4 to see whether the
issue remains. This version doesn't close any excess fd's any more (we
had that patch in for ages).

I recently upgraded from lynx-ssl to lynx 2.8.5-2. Though I am able to log

Bug#299129: breaks debootstrap run

2005-03-11 Thread Joey Hess
Package: tcpd
Version: 7.6.dbs-7
Severity: critical

It's impossible to debootstrap sid anymore due to some change in tcpd's
postinst. Here's how the debootstrap run fails:

Setting up tcpd (7.6.dbs-7) ...
postinst called with unknown argument ''
dpkg: error processing tcpd (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Seems to me that the postinst needs to be less picky about its
arguments; apparently it's valid for $1 to not be set, since dpkg does
this as part of a debootstrap run.

I am afraid that we'll have to back out that patch as it is a likely
cause for #299051 and probable #297174.

Can you please give the inofficial 4.50-4.0 from
http://zg.debian.zugschlus.de/zg/pool/main/exim4 a try before I upload
to unstable and probably cause _more_ breakage?

Thanks so much... I have been making a terrible job as a maintainer for

Bug#299127: "aptitude download" for "file" sources does nothing

2005-03-11 Thread Roland Stigge
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.2.15.8-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

the man page of aptitude reads:

===

download
Downloads the .deb file for the given package to the current directory.
[...]
===

However, when /etc/apt/sources.list points to a "file" source, "aptitude
download " does nothing. For "ftp", "copy", etc., it works.

Since the command "aptituce download" is generally used to (somehow)
fetch a .deb to the current directory, this really should work for "file"
sources, too.

Thanks for considering.

bye,

Bug#299126: Firefox printout stretched vertically

2005-03-11 Thread Didier Kryn

Package: xprt-xprintorg
Version: 0.1.0.alpha1-8

I am running testing (Sarge) kernel 2.6.8 for i686, using the latest
version of everything updated daily. I try to print from Firefox. Cups
is running and has the following printer defined: Stylus-C40UX,
after the commercial name of the device. This is an ink-jet printer
with an USB link.

When printing, Firefox suggests the following printers:

    Stylus-C40UX@:64
    xp_ps_spooldir_HOME_Xpri...
    xp_pdf_spooldir_HOME_Xpr...
    PostScript/Stylus-C40UX

    the first beeing the default.

When using Stylus-C40UX@:64, the printout is zoomed
both vertically and horizontally so that horizontally it matches
roughly the paper size with reasonable margins, but vertically it
exceeds the paper size, and the zooming factor is different, so that
the image is distorted and part of it is lost.

When using PostScript/Stylus-C40UX the image is zoomed
also (as compared with Konqueror) but with the same factor in the 2
dimensions, and it fits in the page.

For Stylus-C40UX@:64, the page-size is set to iso-a4
and for PostScript/Stylus-C40UX it is set to A4,
which, I guess, have the same meaning.

When printing to a PostScript file, the output is OK.

If this can help, here is one of the pages my wife wanted to print:

If it is, please test the unofficial 4.50-4.0 from

issue remains. This version doesn't close any excess fd's any more (we

Please don't file a new bug for this, but rather retitle and reassign
the wnpp bugs appropriately, prefereably by first mailing this to the
wnpp bugs, and when you get no negative feedback in a few weeks or so,
you can reassign & retitle appropriately.

See http://qa.debian.org/howto-remove.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-qa/2004/09/msg00049.html (yes, that could
use some examples, look at http://bugs.debian.org/ftp.debian.org though for
examples)

Bug#299122: totem: crash when 'snd_intel8x0m' kernel module loaded

2005-03-11 Thread Michael Gilbert
Package: totem
Version: 0.100-1
Severity: normal

Totem has been crashing on me when loading any media file for the past
few weeks, but only on my laptop. If I remove the 'snd_intel8x0m'
kernel module, the crash does not happen, and totem works perfectly.
Other programs like rhythmbox, xmms, etc. seem to be able to operate
fine even though the 'snd_intel8x0m' module is loaded. Only totem
has a problem.

The 'snd_intel8x0m' module appears to be configured to load automatically
via the default testing install using debian-installer RC2, so I believe that
this will affect a lot of laptop and intel onboard sound users. Either
totem needs to be modified so that it operates properly under the scenario
that this module is loaded, or debian-installer should not configure
the 'snd_intel8x0m' module to be loaded as a default.

Peace.

Bug#299120: Teapop locks connections/ maildirs

2005-03-11 Thread Waldemar Dworakowski
Package: teapop-mysql
Version: 0.3.7
I have found that when a message that contains additional characters
(in this case 5* 0x00 bytes) after last part of the message is put in
the maildir it practicaly 'locks' message receive by both Thunderbird
and Outlook Express. Problem is in fact in the Teapop as other POPers
somehow survive happily such messages. That kind of messages can be
put into maildirs by various mail servers (for example Postfix) so
that is non-theoretical problem. Such messages were sent by one of
users using outlook express 6.0 with sp2 etc. so that threat may
happen to be quite popular...

May be it is the same / similar bug that been filled before for
mailbox storage. That is also different situation with the propability
of the error estimation. The every message of this kind have 5 null's
at the end so it is quite propable that teapop will 'lock' user
access... and in fact it happens quite frequently... I get at least
2-3 calls a day to correct problem...
Also propability is quite high because one of the used frequently mail
client (outlook express 6.0 SP2) sends such mail quite frequently...

I also informed designer of the program so I hope they will also take
care about it. They do have new version (0.3.8) but with the same
error. May be at the same time it would be nice to 'sync' the version?

yours
WD
P.S. On teapop list I got such suggestion:
hi,
some time ago i made this patch to correct this,
but is for the 0.3.8.

Package: libsablevm-classlib1-java
Version: 1.1.9-1
Severity: normal

Found this problem while investigating #297665

Boiled the problem down to this:

public class TestMessageFormat
{
public static void main( String argv[] )
{
MessageFormat one = new MessageFormat("{0}{1}", Locale.US );
Object[] args = {new Long(0), new Long(10)};
System.out.println( one.format(args) );

MessageFormat two = new MessageFormat("{0}{1}", Locale.ENGLISH );
System.out.println( two.format(args) );
}
}

In running this class, the first .format works, the second give the following
NullPointerException:

java.lang.NullPointerException

I did some investigating, and I'm not sure what the best way to fix
this is.

Bug#278887: initrd-tools: way to find if you are on a megaraid2 or a megaraid

2005-03-11 Thread Thomas Poindessous
Package: initrd-tools
Version: 0.1.77
Followup-For: Bug #278887

Hi, I just read planetDebian and I saw Joey Hess's message about
megaraid / megaraid2.

I have a Dell which uses megaraid and another which uses megaraid2.

Here is a way to find on which system your are :

on megaraid2 system :

# cat /proc/megaraid/hba0/config

boot_pdrv_tgt  = 0
quiescent  = 0
has_cluster= 0

Module Parameters:
max_cmd_per_lun= 63
max_sectors_per_io = 128

On megaraid system, I have :

# cat /proc/megaraid/0/config
PERC 4/Di
Controller Type: 438/466/467/471/493
Controller Supports 40 Logical Drives
Controller / Driver uses 64 bit memory addressing

Version =412W:H406, DRAM = 128Mb
Controller Queue Depth = 254, Driver Queue Depth = 126

Maybe these infos can be used to find the right module.

Thanks for your work.

Sure there are plenty of good cases against DRM. Creating a patch
shouldn't be hard but I'm not sure I'll have time tomorrow.

Here's my problem with this...

I distribute software (Xpdf) under the GPL. (And Debian also
distributes a lot of GPL software, obviously.) What if someone came
along and said, "hey cool, I'll take it", and incorprorated GPL code
into their non-GPL application? What if, when they were confronted,
they said "I don't like the GPL -- and there are plenty of good cases
against it, so I'm just going to ignore it."

I can't, in good conscience, ask people to abide by my request (if you
use my source code, please release your source code too), and then turn
around and completely ignore another author's request.

Frankly, I'm rather surprised that Debian has such a cavlier attitude
toward other author's requests, given their own very strong attitude
with regard to the GPL.

Don't get me wrong -- I don't particularly like DRM either, and if
Debian were campaigning to convince people not to use it, I'd be happy
to see it. But simply blowing off an author like that is, in my
opinion, rather hypocritical.

On this point, the GPL (section 2a) says "You must cause the modified
files to carry prominent notices stating that you changed the files and
the date of any change." If Debian is in fact distributing a version of
Xpdf modified to ignore the permission settings, does your modified
version carry the required "prominent notice"? If not, I respectfully
request that you add such a notice.

- Derek

Bug#292939: Applies well to 3.0.2-1

2005-03-11 Thread Kjetil Kjernsmo
Hi!

I checked, and can confirm that this patch applies well to 3.0.2-1 with
the Debian patches. It needs to be a bit offset though, but is
otherwise OK, it seems.

Here's what my trails return:
patching file debian/rules
patching file debian/spamassassin.default
patching file debian/spamassassin.dirs
Hunk #1 succeeded at 18 (offset 10 lines).
patching file debian/spamassassin.init
patching file debian/spamassassin.logrotate
patching file debian/spamassassin.postinst
Hunk #1 succeeded at 43 (offset 23 lines).
patching file debian/spamassassin.postrm

I have also tried it against upstream 3.0 svn branch. Upstream developer
Daniel Quinlan has some debian control files in there too (and if I
understood him correctly, he's interested in getting the official
Debian files in there, if they can be licenced), but it does not apply
cleanly against that.

Best,

Kjetil

Hello,

Thanks for your interest. Actually, the Mambo package is ready for
Debian inclusion, but it is sitting on the NEW queue[1], waiting to be
approved and accepted into Debian's main archive.

You can grab the package from here:
http://people.debian.org/~anibal/debian/mambo/
http://damog.puntodeb.net/debian/mambo/

Note that this package is, at the moment, hitting the experimental
distribution.

Bug#299118: Document undocumented API

Package: spamassassin
Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: minor
Forwarded: http://bugzilla.spamassassin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4092

This is a really trivial bug, so trivial it can't hurt to fix it... :-)
The patch has been produced by upstream developer Justin Mason. I have
confirmed that it applies cleanly to both 3.0.2 and current svn 3.0,
both with Debian 3.0.2-1 patches. Should be a trivial update, but one
that's nice to have for Sarge as it won't be fixed by upstream.

The patch is attached.

Bug#276877: confirmation of observed behaviour with remote Xorg Xserver

2005-03-11 Thread Vaclav Smilauer
We are running thin clients based on thinstation (thinstation.sf.net)
2.2beta1. It has Xorg X server and uses _only_ precompiled xkbmaps.

I googled out that _XKB_RULES_NAMES property is not set for precompiled
keymaps (see
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=11096034 for
details). Setxkbmap should however be smart enough to handle such case,
which is AFAIK (=as I was told) correct as far as XKB specification
goes. The very same problem is the source of some
GNOME-keyboard-switching bugs (_XKB_RULES_NAMES not set, but GNOME
wrongly expects it). Screenshot (yes, it has the "Warning: Multiple
definitions of keyboard model" line if run with -v, as in the original
report):

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ setxkbmap us
Couldn't interpret _XKB_RULES_NAMES property
Use defaults: rules - 'xfree86' model - 'pc101' layout - 'us'
free(): invalid pointer 0x41152030!
Error loading new keyboard description
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ setxkbmap -print us
Couldn't interpret _XKB_RULES_NAMES property
Use defaults: rules - 'xfree86' model - 'pc101' layout - 'us'
free(): invalid pointer 0x41152030!
xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include "xfree86+aliases(qwerty)"   };
xkb_types { include "complete"  };
xkb_compat{ include "complete"  };
xkb_symbols   { include "pc/pc(pc101)+pc/us"};
xkb_geometry  { include "pc(pc101)" };
};
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

Eventually, I was able to load a keymap into the Xserver (with bunch of
warnings from xkbcomp, but it worked at least) as follows:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ setxkbmap -print us | grep -v -e 'Couldn' -e 'Use' |
xkbcomp - $DISPLAY

Setxkbmap should NOT use stdout for error messages (that's what stderr
is for), feeding garbage into xkbcomp. I don't know if this has not been
fixed in xorg, that is however irrelevant for sarge at least. Anyone
knowing how to fix this for GNOME/KDE please contact me or post here for
record. If you need any additional information, I will be happy to
provide it. Regards, VS

Bug#290927: Patch tested for 3.0.2 and svn 3.0 branch

2005-03-11 Thread Kjetil Kjernsmo
Hi!

I can confirm that the attached patch (by Tom Schulz) applies cleanly to
both the 3.0.2 and the current svn 3.0 branch. Please review the bug
report http://bugzilla.spamassassin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3949 for
details. It may not resolve all problems, and it has not yet been
applied to the 3.0 branch by upstream, but they focus on 3.1.

Bug#282204: gmailfs in sarge is still not usable.

2005-03-11 Thread gary ng
While the dependency has changed back to fuse-utils
1.3-1, the calling parameter in mount.gmailfs seems to
be changed to the newer version so it gives a unknown
option with fuse-util 1.3-1(fusermount).

I believe this bug should be re-opened or a new one
assigned. Basically, the current gmailfs needs the
newer fuse-utils, just blindly changes the dependency
back is plain wrong.

Bug#299114: libxbase2.0-dev: xbase/xbase.h includes iostream.h, which is not a dependency

2005-03-11 Thread Sergio Freue
Package: libxbase2.0-dev
Version: 2.0.0-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After installing libxbase2.0-dev with apt-get, sources using xbase
cannot be compiled, with the following error:

In my particular setup it was fixed by installing the libstdc++2.10-dev package

Thanks

This version entered unstable on 2004-12-16; this error has never been
reported before and I cannot reproduce it, so there is surely a problem
on your side. Thus I downgrade the severity of this bug for now.

Please read in /usr/share/doc/xfree86-common/FAQ.xhtml#ltkeys explanations
about using xev and send your xev output when pressing Alt+a and Alt+A.
And also the result of
  $ xprop -root | grep XKB

This is neither a policy "must", nor an RC requirement for sarge, and is
therefore not a 'serious' bug.
