Bug#316143: subversion: libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 reproduces bug here

2005-07-03 Thread Chung-chieh Shan
Package: subversion
Version: 1.2.0-1

Unfortunately, I have exactly the same dependent package versions
(including libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22) as indicated in the original bug report,
yet I see the same problem (tested with a freshly created, local fsfs
repository).

I have fixed this and uploaded to Debian unstable.

To the security team (which I have hopefully CCed):

This upload contains only the patch mentioned in this bug report.

It has been compiled with libraries in stable (pbuilder chroot), so it
should work on both stable and unstable.

What do I need to do to get a security release for the stable version?

This is strange. It works with me. What is the debian version of gcc and
what does 'gcc-4.0 -v' give?

Bug#316713: Transition from 5.0.6 to 6.0.0 could be better

2005-07-03 Thread Andrew Pollock
Package: sysstat
Version: 6.0.0-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Having recently upgraded from 5.0.6 to 6.0.0, I think the upgrade could
be handled a bit better. For example, a NEWS.Debian mentioning that the
sadf command has taken over some of the output functionality of sar.

Also, it seems that sa1 no longer collects disk statistics by default -
it needs to be called with -d. I know I was getting disk statistics
before, so this was a bit of a srurpise when I no longer had any disk
statistics.

Finally, it would be nice if there was a way of converting the old log
files to the new format. In my case, it wasn't a big deal, because I
throw them into a database once a day, so I only lost part of a day's
worth of logfiles, but this could be really annoying if someone upgrades
towards the end of the month and they only post-process their logs at
the start of the month or something.

regards

Andrew

Check two things:

1. Do you have self-compiled modules for ethereal, not part of
the Debian package? The ABI may have changed and that
would certainly lead to the observed behaviour.

2. Check your hardware, RAM etc.

Bug#316714: XMLRPC vulnerability

2005-07-03 Thread Matthew Palmer
Package: phpwiki
Tags: security
Severity: serious

Just got this through the PHPWiki list. I'm going to pull xmlrpc.inc as
suggested. I pulled the package from Sarge because I didn't think it was
releasable, so there's no need to go through a full DSA cycle. Just keeping
the security team in the loop.

Subject: XMLRPC vulnerability security advise

The phpxmlrpc library phpwiki-1.3.x from 2002/08/30 up to today is using
is easily exploitable. The updated version xmlrpc-1.1 from the website
even contains the exploit code, so it's very likely that you webserver
will get "rooted" in the next week if your using phpwiki-1.3.4 or later.

See http://phpxmlrpc.sourceforge.net/
and http://www.gulftech.org/?node=research&article_id=00088-07022005

The updated xmlrpc-1.1 version doesn't work out of the box and will
require one more day to be fixed.

If you are using phpwiki-1.3.11_rc1 or a newer or a CVS versions later
than 2005-01-05 AND you are using the native PECL xmlrpc extension by
Dan Libby you are on the safe side and forget this issue. Check your
phpinfo() if the xmlrpc extension is loaded.
phpwiki from 2005-01-05 on checks the existance and does not use the
exploitable phpxmlrpc library which ships with phpwiki/lib/XMLRPC.

If you are affected please remove lib/XMLRPC/xmlrpc.inc ASAP or rename it.

Note:
It's extremely unfair from the phpxmlrpc maintainers to add the exploit
code to the fixed library without any grace period! Usual it is one
week, but one ot two days would have been enough also.
I'm stronlgy considering removing this horribly written library from
phpwiki and just rely on the stable and fast PECL extension by Dan
Libby, which also supports SOAP.

Bug#316111: (no subject)

2005-07-03 Thread Peer Janssen

Oleksandr Moskalenko schrieb:

I cannot confirm
this report on the current 1.2.1+cvs. Please update your package and test for
this again. If you don't mind you could get the latest package from one of the
two repositories I maintain upstream as there is an unfortunate slowdown in
getting an updated package into Unstable at the moment. Add the following
source lines to you /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://debian.scribus.net/debian/ unstable/
deb-src http://debian.scribus.net/debian/ unstable/
deb http://debian.tagancha.org/scribus unstable/
deb-src http://debian.tagancha.org/scribus unstable/

Run the usual "apt-get update; apt-get install scribus". As I see that you
have a stable system. Since Testing/Unstable has libgcc1 at 4.0.0 now, if you
really don't want to install anything from Testing you'll have to rebuild the
package. It's not hard. See my message to the Scribus mailing list at
http://irc.altmuehlnet.de/pipermail/scribus/2005-June/011710.html. By the way

- new 1.3cvs series is pretty usable already. You can install scribus-cvs
package from the upstream repository in parallel with the official scribus
package and try it. Some people already use it for production.

Thank you for your attention to this bug.

As you supposed, I do not want to install from unstable at this time.

Thanks also for your detailed work instruction detailed via the supplied
URL.
It will certainly take me some time to do this, since I first want to
understand what the instructions do. The other day, another debian
developer asked me to add an entry to the apt sources list, and then
pushed some packet not-from-stable on my machine without telling me
beforehand what happend, which -- while it solved the problem at hand --
I did not appreciate. So I have to be careful before adventuring around
with commands I don't understand yet. Reading und understanding all the
man-pages and other doc's takes much time, which I cannot supply in a
short time frame. I'm not a developer in the debian sense so far, still
having blanks in my understanding of the system. I hope you understand
this. Maybe it is possible to verify the bug with the stable version?

Apparently, filing a bug -- as valued as it seems to be -- is the easy
part, as opposed to dealing with the required fallout...

Regards,
Peer

Bug#316093: ressource files should not be in etc

2005-07-03 Thread Eduard Bloch
Hello,

I think Bill has a good point here. Ressource files like compiled
terminal descriptions should not be in etc since hardly anyone edits
them. Instead, they should be moved to /usr/share and links from them to
/etc/terminfo/... should be created, so the local admin still has a
chance to modify the files, and on the other hands the packages can work
without worrying about conffiles issues.

Therefore, I suggest the following transition:

 - install the files into /usr/share/terminfo inside of the package
 - in postinst, do something like...

   (cd /usr/share ; find terminfo -type d) | (cd /etc ; xargs mkdir -p )
   for x in `cd /usr/share ; find terminfo -type f; find terminfo -type l` ; do
  if test -f /etc/$x ; then
if cmp /usr/share/$x /etc/$x ; then
  ln -sf /usr/share/$x /etc/$x
else
echo "/etc/$x modified by local administrator, keeping as-is"
fi
  else
ln -sf /usr/share/$x /etc/$x
  fi
   done

Regards,
Eduard.

The problem is that you have to extract both archives in the same
directory (overlay them) to get the source code which wasn't supported
by dpkg back then. I think it is now and if it is the supplements will
be included with the next upload (which will be soon).

Bug#316722: dbs: please add support for new dpkg-architecture

2005-07-03 Thread Colin Watson
Package: dbs
Version: 0.35
Severity: important
Justification: needed to fix other important bugs, e.g. #314713
Tags: patch

Hi,

Please apply the attached patch to support the new
DEB_{BUILD,HOST}_ARCH_{CPU,OS} variables emitted by new
dpkg-architecture (>= 1.13.2), and to add compatibility code for old
dpkg-architecture so that people don't need to build-depend on new
versions of dpkg-dev in order to use this feature.

The dpkg-architecture change is described here:

  http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00010.html

We need to get this sorted out soon so that packages build-depending on
dbs can use consistent compatibility code; at the moment, such source
packages are building incorrect binary packages (#314713).

Thanks,

Bug#315330: ftgl: please provide a shared version

2005-07-03 Thread Yann Dirson
On Sat, Jul 02, 2005 at 07:28:46PM -0600, Marcelo E. Magallon wrote:
> Yann, BTW, is there a reason why tulip embeds FTGL's source?

I suppose it is the not uncommon practice of making source packages as
self-conained as possible, by not requiring people to have those libs
installed. Indeed, tulip has 3 such 3rd-party libs, one of which is
not packaged in Debian (gzstream).

This also probably helps to ensure the package will build. Following
my attempt to use the ftgl package, I have learnt that the ftgl API
has been changed in an incompatible way, so tulip will need porting to
the new API so it can make use of the package. Upstream is aware of
the issue, and a summer trainee will possibly take care of the issue.

Best regards,

Bug#315503: libmagick in Sid breads dvdauthor

2005-07-03 Thread Marc Leeman
> what's the exact problem?

The header files of libmagick seem to depend on a #include order: they
are not standalone.

e.g. when you include a.h, you need b.h before a.h before a.h uses
functionality in b.h

That would be my guess based on the parse error "before va_list".

Including in the file producing the error.
(/usr/include/magick/exception.h)

It's always a good idea to not use internal libs. I hope it
fixes it, and I'm willing to tests this if you want, but I'm
afraid it won't.

> [0] http://lists.debian.org/debian-amd64/2005/05/msg00317.html

I think it's also the same as #278966, which does an
#include  in expression_grammar.h.

It's also reported against g++-3.3 as #285364

With the C++ ABI change this is probably going to go away.

simply an aberration!

It is not if the two Viewers have different items on their Shelfs. :-)

Well, if multiple Shelfs are not supported by GWorkspace this is OK (if
I am the only one who has used this feature). However then GWorkspace
should not allow the user to create different Shelfs in different
Viewers. Otherwise the user can not be sure which one of the Shelfs
will be preserved after the restart.

From this point of wiew you are right. Fixed. Now GWorkspace supports multiple
viewers opened on / and remembers the contents of the shelfs.

Including stdarg.h solves the build problem from dvdauthor and is IMHO a

I think Bill has a good point here. Ressource files like compiled

my understanding is that they're in /etc since they're used during startup

Good point, things like editors maybe essential in an environment where
/usr cannot be mounted. What about /lib/terminfo instead?

Eduard.

Bug#316547: Acknowledgement (please invoke "B" hooks on pbuilder execute)

What kind of use do you have in mind?
It's trivial to add, but I would like to know that there
are legitimate uses for it.

Bug#312121: pdebuild: remove -B from DEBBUILDOPTS when building the source package

After looking at the code harder, it might in fact be useless to
have it.

One objection is that it is no longer possible to
pass custom -i option; it might be crucial to some
people using arch/subversion etc, since the
resulting diff.gz may end up massive.

Bug#316727: standalone lilypond prints broken text fonts

2005-07-03 Thread Hans Ulrich Niedermann
Package: lilypond
Version: 2.4.5-2
Severity: normal

Standalone lilypond (i.e. without using lilypond-book and LaTeX)
produces completely broken text output. The text is written in
Courier with seemingly random character spacing, resulting in large
gaps between characters and characters overlapping.

For an example, have a look at the lilypond documentation, e.g.

/usr/share/doc/lilypond/html/Documentation/user/out-www/lilypond/lily-1783165692-page1.png

Using lilypond-book building on the lilypond-book example from the
lilypond manual, the fonts look OK, though.

Bug#316726: gnucash: When there is one result from a "find", select it.

2005-07-03 Thread Greg Kochanski
Package: gnucash
Version: 1.8.10-12
Severity: wishlist

When one searches for a vendor or a bill and finds
only one possibility, the software ought to select it,
to save the user a mouse click.

Users learn to type good search strings into the window,
and you might as well take advantage of it.

Bug#316728: gnucash: No obvious way to recover from entering wrong vendor name on bill

2005-07-03 Thread Greg Kochanski
Package: gnucash
Version: 1.8.10-12
Severity: normal

If you enter the wrong company for an invoice
there is no obvious way to fix it.One can find the bill
and un-post it, but the bill still exists, and one cannot
edit the vendor even after the bill is un-posted.

(I know that sounds weird, but it was an automatically scheduled
payment that doesn't have a paper invoice, and I was entering
the information from a bank statement that showed the transaction.
I accidentally entered the bank as the vendor, instead of the
company that was being paid.)

I can reproduce it here (by starting a 96 dpi X server, I usually use 72 dpi)
so it should be possible to track it down from my end. Any analysis of the
problem would be useful for me.

I have spent some time on the problem but not made much progress. As another
user mentioned xterm also displays this issue, and is probably going to be
easier to debug than gnome-terminal. The FreeType demos do not display the
issue, so it is not entirely clear cut where the fault lies, it may be some
interaction between Xft and FreeType.

I'm pushing both issues upstream. I don't think that the API changes are
causing the problem, they would be more likely to cause unresolved symbols at
runtime, but I'm still trawling the ChangeLog to see if there is anything
relevant.

Looks like that's because of the jack transition, not the fault of the dbus

Build fine on my sparc buildd before i did pbuilder update, afterward i got the
same error as the buildd's. That probably just needs some time to get resolved.

The error on your pbuilder is odd, as we depend on python2.3-pyrex. Will need
to check if that's a problem with the newer(?) python-pyrex package.

Actually I did, but only looked at serious bugs, which is the expected
severity for a bashism which breaks dash.

Bug#316736: e2fsck-static: e2fsck reproducible segfaults on specific bad inode

2005-07-03 Thread Christian Egger
Package: e2fsck-static
Version: 1.37+1.38-WIP-0620-1
Severity: normal

I found e2fsck to reproducible segfault on a certain inode on a big 330G
raid5 partition. I tested e2fsck from e2fsprogs and e2fsck-static from both
sarge (1.37-2sarge1) and sid which had the same problem with inode <8962588>.
After changing some of the inode attributes with debugfs, e2fsck did its job.

The stat command outputs:

debugfs: stat <8962588>

Bug#316737: linkchecker: Seemingly not fatal bug reported frequenty

2005-07-03 Thread Graham Smith
Package: linkchecker
Version: 2.9-2
Severity: normal

The following error message is reported everytime I run linkchecker and, if I
am checking
multiple pages, several times during checking. It doesn't seem to have any
effect on the
performance of linkchecker (eg it still finds broken links) but it would be
nice if it
didn't keep reporting this problem as it makes the command line output
difficult to read.

I'm currently using the AMD64 port of Debian but I have also had this problem
on the current
testing version.

** Oops, I did it again. *

You have found an internal error in LinkChecker. Please write a bug report
at http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=add&group_id=1913&atid=101913
or send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include the following information:
- the URL or file you are testing
- your commandline arguments and/or configuration.
- the output of a debug run with option "-Dall" of the executed command
- the system information below.

Disclosing some of the information above due to privacy reasons is ok.
I will try to help you nonetheless, but you have to give me something
I can work with ;) .
