Bug#317615: lintian: Please check for C++ ABI mixups

2005-07-09 Thread Goswin Brederlow
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.8
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I think it would be a good idea for lintian to test for C++ ABI mixups
during the transition. As an example look at bookmarkbridge:

% ldd /usr/bin/bookmarkbridge | grep std
libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0x55fe4000)
libstdc++.so.5 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 (0x5622d000)

In general lintian could check for any occurences of two sonames of
the same library.

I've been trying to stay out of popcon development discussions lately to
save myself some time, but I can't really stop myself here: this question is
a UI nightmare. It doesn't just deserve to be rephrased - it deserves to be
removed. Why are we asking users such dumb things? Either the HTTP method
is good, or it's not. If it's good, let's use it. If it's not, let's use
email. I can guarantee that any average user (even a smart one) installing
Debian has no idea which option he should choose, and an extra paragraph of
advice won't help.

Have fun,

Avery

Bug#314518: Copying aborted, crash on resume

2005-07-09 Thread Paul van Tilburg
Hi,

I had a slightly different experience but with the same result. After
extracting it asked me to insert a new empty CD (I use the same drive
for extracting and burning), I pressed OK and it reported within a
second that it was done burning.
Obviously not satisfied I went to my gnomebaker tempdir, dragged the
wav+inf files to the Burn Audio CD drag area. There it listed the 12
wavs files as each being 0:02 long (while they are about 50MB big and
5mins long), pressed Burn and it crashed for me too.

Greetings,

Paul

Bug#317613: bookmarkbridge: mixes C++ ABIs

2005-07-09 Thread Goswin Brederlow
Package: bookmarkbridge
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

Package: bookmarkbridge
Architecture: i386
Version: 0.72-5
Depends: libqt3c102-mt (>= 3:3.3.4), libstdc++6 (>= 4.0.0-10)

seems like you didn't read the C++ transition plan. All C++ packages
are in an upload freeze untill all their dependencies have
transitioned to avoid mixing incompatible C++ ABIs.

You must upload your package again once all your dependencies have
transitioned. Till then your package is screwed.

Bug#317612: gdm: X uses /root/bak_XF86/XF86Config-4_0 -- seriously..

inconveniences this pasting may have..)

If this is the incorrect mail address I apologize, if
it would have to be resend please, please tell me and
I'll try to send it again to the more accurate
recipient. This is a real ugly bug that would
infuriate many newbies if they try, and possibly very
likely to do something like the following..

/etc/init.d/gdm without /etc/X11/XF86Config-4* or
/etc/X11/XF86Config
files may run (and without -xf86config)
/root/bak_XF86/XF86Config-4_0

wtf? No kidding..

so I had to move my XF86Config-4_0 and XF86Config-4_1
file to
/var/otherdir and solved the problem.

I marked this critical because there must be many
infuriated newbies not
knowing about lsof and their backup XF86Config-4*
files in /root being
used instead--

/root/XF86Config-4_* files may be used if
/etc/X11/XF86Config
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 exist-- but if these files of
/etc/X11 don't offer
a stable configuration..

filing bug for xserver-xfree86 as well.

wtf?! I was surprised too...hope this gets looked
into, many newbies may
be extremely infuriarted as wtf is going on..or if its
their system's
filesystem going corrupt blah blah..thanks for any
feedback..it would
greatly be appreciated..

Bug#317607: mozilla-browser: time-sorted history doesn't update as time-passes

2005-07-09 Thread Jasen Betts
Package: mozilla-browser
Version: 2:1.0.0-0.woody.1
Severity: normal

minor bug vis the effect of time on the history window, and updates to it.

I left mozilla running for two days with the history window open
with group-by-day anabled... when I came back to it none of the items in the
history window would work (it had pages listed under "today" and "yesterday"
but clicking them had no effect)

turning view.group-by.day off and back on refreshed the display and it all
works now
(says 2 days ago, three sayts ago)... Hmm it hasn't got a folder for for pages
visited today now...
(none had been visited at the time I twiddled view.group-by.day, but I
subsequently visited some)

having it update automatically would be ideal, but a "refresh" action (button
or menu item) would be enough.

Bug#317606: debian-installer fails to install GRUB on the correct disk

2005-07-09 Thread Jonathan T Wang
Package: debian-installer
Version: rc3
Severity: important

When installing sarge from DVDs onto drives that are on a add-on PCI IDE
controller, debian-installer does not put GRUB in the right place. My root (and
only bootable) partition was on /dev/hdg (hd2 to GRUB), but debian-installer
did not load GRUB there.

Unfortunately I don't have more detailed information since the GRUB install is
hidden behind a GUI. Which leads me into a feature request: in expert mode
debian-installer should allow the user to choose which drive to load GRUB onto
and allow the user to edit the menu.lst file. This is particularly important
when installing onto drives on an expansion storage controller since the BIOS
drive ordering usually does not match the Linux drive ordering (i.e. /dev/hdg =
hd0).

Thanks,
Jonathan

reassign 316476 initrd-tools
reassign 316453 initrd-tools
thx!

First of all, i'm reassigning this to initrd-tools as this is not
related to the kernel-source nor image.

I found a quite good solution to solve the issue.

in my /etc/mkinitrd/mkinitrd.conf, i changed:
INITRD_LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
to
INITRD_LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/lib:/lib64:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

i know /lib64 is theoritically useless, but i didn't tried w/o so i'm
including it here to.

other amd64 users might encounter this problem in the near future so i
hope you guys will look at this.

thanks!

Package: pootle
Version: 0.8.2005.0217-1

pootle has no manpages. Presumably you could write a single page
describing all the *2* binaries, since they seem to take the same
command line parameters.

Caution: when writing the manpage you should not just cut and paste
things from http://translate.sf.net/doc/index.html, since that
documentation is ever so slightly non-free (Creative Commons
Attrib-ShareAlike). program --help output is ok since that is
GPL-licensed.

If the two are /tmp/.X11-unix and /tmp/.ICE-unix, I don't think we
should bother removing them. They're required for any X work, and /tmp
gets cleaned on reboot anyway.

I have no idea. These crashes seem persistent for the people who have

Bug#317602: ITP: xmms-openspc -- SPC file player plugin for XMMS

2005-07-09 Thread Ryan Schultz
Package: wnpp

Severity: wishlist

  Upstream Author : Zinx Verituse <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://staff.xmms.org/zinx/misc/tmp

  Description : SPC file player plugin for XMMS

 XMMS-OpenSPC is an XMMS plugin that allows you to play SNES audio
 files in the .spc format. This plugin can also read the id666 tags
 used by SPC files.

Note: upstream doesn't compile with gcc-4.0, and also segfaults XMMS --
the segfault is fixed in CVS but it won't autoconf for me, so I've fixed
both problems myself. CVS hasn't been touched for over a year, as well.

Bug#317600: guile-1.6: guile-snarf doesn't work with gcc 4

2005-07-09 Thread Kevin Ryde
Package: guile-1.6
Version: 1.6.7-1
Severity: normal

With the "gcc" package version 4:4.0.0-1, guile-snarf fails with

/usr/bin/guile-snarf: 83: i386-linux-gcc: not found

It looks like "@CPP@" got put in the script as "i386-linux-gcc -E",
perhaps on account of --host and --build in the debian/rules
configure. But the gcc package now provides i486-linux-gcc instead.

I expect plain "gcc -E" would be enough as the default, if that could
be induced.

(Incidentally, I wonder if guile-snarf should be in the guile-1.6-dev
package, it's probably only useful when compiling, for which
guile-1.6-dev will be needed.)

I don't know anything about procmail, but I have one thought.

Are you sure the messages are lost? I was thinking that maybe some
particularly large messages were rejected first, filling up some more
disk space, and then, eventually, every message was rejected (when
there was not a single spare unit on the disk).

Is this possible?

Bug#315330: ftgl: please provide a shared version

Hi Guenter,

 AFAIUI, it matters on architectures that I don't really have access to
 (I mean interactive access, I don't care about millisecond differences
 in this case, which exist even on i386)

 The non-standard name is the name used by the X packages, so I'm just
 following lead here.

 If you guys settle on something I'll be happy to implement it in the
 package. I use FTGL in my own projects, which means that I'll notice
 if performance goes down because of a particular change.

Bug#317597: dpkg-dev-el: changelog coding system for debian native package

2005-07-09 Thread Kevin Ryde
Package: dpkg-dev-el
Version: 24.11-1
Severity: wishlist

The code below is an idea for /etc/emacs/site-start.d/50dpkg-dev-el.el
to get the correct coding system (ie. utf-8) for the changelog file in
a debian native package, eg. /usr/share/doc/adduser/changelog.gz.

This is for gnu emacs, xemacs seems to do something different when
visiting compressed files. There's no actual harm in xemacs, it just
doesn't have the intended effect.

(defun debian-changelog-coding-system (args)
  "Return the coding system for a /usr/share/doc/[package]/changelog file.
If [package] is a debian native (no separate changelog.Debian) then answer
`utf-8', otherwise remove ourselves from `file-coding-system-alist' and see
what other rules say."
  (let ((dirname (file-name-directory (cadr args
(if (file-exists-p (concat dirname "changelog.Debian.gz"))
(let ((file-coding-system-alist
   (remove '("/usr/share/doc/[^/]+/changelog\\'"
 . debian-changelog-coding-system)
   file-coding-system-alist)))
  (apply 'find-operation-coding-system args))
  'utf-8)))
(modify-coding-system-alist 'file "/usr/share/doc/[^/]+/changelog\\'"

Bug#317598: procmail accepts messages even though partition full

2005-07-09 Thread CaT
Package: procmail
Version: 3.22-11
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Tonight my /var/mail partition ran out of disk space (again) and
procmail continued to allow delivery (again) despite of this. It
occasionally rejected messages via return code 75:

Jul 10 10:35:09 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]: reading message [EMAIL
PROTECTED]:4 of 4 (2982 octets)
Jul 10 10:35:11 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]: MDA returned nonzero status 75
Jul 10 10:35:11 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]:  not flushed

And all is well, but in the same hit it also decides that accepting is a
great idea:

Jul 10 10:35:07 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]: 4 messages for cat at
zipworld.com.au (13738 octets).
Jul 10 10:35:07 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]: reading message [EMAIL
PROTECTED]:1 of 4 (2949 octets)
Jul 10 10:35:08 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]:  flushed
Jul 10 10:35:08 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]: reading message [EMAIL

PROTECTED]:3 of 4 (3378 octets)
Jul 10 10:35:09 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]:  flushed

And those messages are lost. The next time around it accepted the
message it rejected above and so it was lost. It doesn't do it for just
one message out of the pickup:

Jul 10 10:40:58 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]: 4 messages for cat at zipworld.com
.au (14719 octets).

u:4 of 4 (2017 octets)
Jul 10 10:41:01 theirongiant fetchmail[1063]:  flushed

2 messages gone and 2 messages saved.

Procmail is called via the following in fetchmail:

mda "/usr/sbin/sensible-mda %F %T '' localhost"

Which is the way sendmail calls it.

Help? This is rather annoying. I just lost a whole nights worth of
email. :/

Bug#317593: apt-spy: memory leak in check_write_access

2005-07-09 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: apt-spy
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

check_write_access() leaks a pathname string, as noted in the code.
Attached is a patch to fix this. Rather than plug the leak directly,
I opted to open the files immediately after argument parsing, which,
IMHO, simplifies the code and avoids a (harmless) race.

Bug#317592: apt-spy: initialization of defaults can be inlined

2005-07-09 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: apt-spy
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Initialization of defaults can be inlined. I see:

  $ grep 'd_.*\[' main.c
  main.c:char d_area[] = "All";
  main.c:char d_out[] = "/etc/apt/sources.list";
  main.c:char d_config[] = "/etc/apt-spy.conf";
  main.c:char d_mirror[] = "/var/lib/apt-spy/mirrors.txt";
  main.c:char d_file[] = "ls-lR";
  main.c:char d_update_url[] =
"http://http.us.debian.org/debian/README.mirrors.txt";;

and then I see:

  $ for s in $(grep -o 'd_[^[]*\[' main.c |sed -e 's/\[$//'); do echo -n $s;
grep -h "=.*$s" *.c; done;
  d_area  area = d_area;
  d_out   outfile = d_out;
  d_configconfig_file = d_config;
  d_mirrormirror_list = d_mirror;
  d_file  grab_file = d_file;
  d_update_urlupdate_url = d_update_url;

I can't see any reason why these can't all be initialized inline with
their declaration, as in

char *area=d_area;

instead of having it set by a runtime conditional. If any of those
static default strings don't have corresponding variables in main(),
then you could still initialize them (in an arbitrary function) by
using #defines, as in

char *foo = FOO_D;

where a new ./includes/defaults.h can specify, in a central location,
all of the FOO_D defaults.

(I believe, however, that each of those 6 static strings have such a
corresponding variable in main).

[ ... ]

I've now written a patch for this. The only complication is d_area,
which requires a minor code change: since it will always be non-NULL,
the check is now country_list!=NULL.

Bug#317594: sqlite3-3.2.1-1 SIGBUS on 64-bit machines (fixed upstream)

2005-07-09 Thread Matthias Andree
Package: sqlite3
Version: 3.2.1-1
Severity: grave
Tags: fixed-upstream

sqlite3-3.2.1-1 does not work properly on 64-bit machines that require
8-byte alignment for longword access, such as IA64 or SPARC64.

32-bit machines are unaffected.

The bug is known + fixed upstream in release 3.2.2, which contains this
relevant changeset:

http://www.sqlite.org/cvstrac/chngview?cn=2452&as=raw

Logged failures (not exhaustive):

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?&pkg=bogofilter&ver=0.95.2-1&arch=ia64&stamp=1120235262&file=log&as=raw
(look for "Bus error")

I can reproduce the problem with sqlite 3.2.1 on a Sun UltraSPARC running
Solaris 8 and can confirm the problem is fixed there with sqlite 3.2.2.
(I don't have access to 64-bit machines running Debian.)

Please consider updating to 3.2.2.

Bug#317590: apt-spy: Please include improved error checks in argument parsing code

2005-07-09 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: apt-file
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Please include improved error checks in argument parsing code. Patch
is attached which will error on arguments such as "-n 10FOOBAR".

Also fixed is a spelling error and a grammar error.

This patch would probably conflict with:
apt-spy.inline-initializations, but I've included the necessary
renaming of the variable BESTNUMBER here.

Bug#317587: apt-spy: Please move data to /var/cache/apt/

2005-07-09 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: apt-spy
Severity: normal

Shouldn't the data be storied in /var/cache/, and not /var/lib/?
Maybe even in /var/cache/apt/; apt-file retrieves the contents file
there, which I think makes sense.

RATIONALE: Since the mirrors list is simply a copy of a mirrors list
from somewhere else, and it can always be replaced with another copy
of that list.

If this change gets implemented, the postinst script (I think) should
conditionally (based on the upgrade version number):

rm /var/lib/apt-spy/mirrors.txt
rmdir /var/lib/apt-spy/

Bug#317585: apt-spy: build_country_file() initializes country_code as a function of its own strlen()

I take it this is unintentional? Probably the argument to strlen()
should be country_list. Valgrind will confirm an invalid memory
access.

However, I don't really understand why country_code needs to be
dynamically allocated; it seems like char country_code[4]; should be
sufficient (after adding code to limit the number of characters copied
to that buffer).

Bug#317589: apt-spy: bogus value for strncat()

2005-07-09 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: apt-spy
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

file.c has:
strncat(new_name, ".bak", namesize + 5);

but this seems to be a misinterpretation of how strncat() works.
strcat() is perfectly fine to use here, and the sizes are all right.
If strncat is to be used, then the third parameter should be 4.

The strncpy() is also not necessary; strcpy is sufficient.

I'm including a patch which uses sprintf.  snprintf is also available;
you could use if if you wanted to be perfectly pedantic.

int ret=strncat(size, ...);
if (ret<0 || ret>=size) {
// Error.
}

Since this is a programming error, it could even be a simple assert
statement.

No, this would be hell to maintain. So far it looks like that upgrading
the kernel before udev will work well enough to finish the upgrade.

(If you tried to discuss your ideas with maintainers before starting to
write down big designs you would probably save a lot of time.)

OK, so it was not as bad as stated for my 2.6.11 kernel (from unstable), but
the primary sarge kernel was 2.6.8, so 2.6.8 is the primary compatibility
requirement, while 2.6.11 is needed only for those tracking testing or
unstable!

What is worse however is the information about upstream in your blog.

Am I understanding you correctly when I read it as saying that kernel 2.6.12
(a point release in the "stable" branch) is making an incompatible change to
the udev interface, requires an upstream udev version which will not work on
relatively recent kernels (2.6.8 etc.) and (from info elsewhere)
simultaneously drops support for devfs (to which people just finished
migrating their locally written scripts ...)?

If this is correct, then this is the third such self-incompatible kernel
change in the last few months. The two others were a security patch that
broke modules compiled from the same kernel source (due to careless touching
of header files), and an ALSA user space library that could not
simultaneously support kernel 2.6.8 and kernel 2.6.10.

It seams that if getting udev 0.6x quickly rewritten to support all
udev-based kernels in one version is too much work or too controversial, you
should do what modutils, cdrecord and other packages usually do for *major*
kernel upgrades (like 2.4.x to 2.6.x): package two versions of the source,
two sets of binaries (in one .deb) and some wrapper scripts or binaries to
exec the right one depending on the kernel version.

That is create a package with a structure like this

udev-0.060/
   debian/
  (rules etc.)
   debian/switch/
  (the wrapper scripts to select the right udev)
   v0.0??/
  (unpacked copy of some older udev tarball for older kernels)
   v0.058/
  (unpacked copy of the 0.058 tarball plus Debian patches)
   ./
  (upstream source not moved so pristine .orig.tar.gz still possible)

and from this create a package like this

/sbin/udev (result of
   perl -p -e 's|NAME|udev|g; s|DIR|sbin|g;' >/dev/console ||
echo "/DIR/NAME: ${ERR}" >&2 ||
:
[ -x /usr/bin/logger ] && /usr/bin/logger -i -t "NAME" -p 27 "${ERR}" || :
exit 1
# Hope no bashisms here...
# Note: This uses
#external program: /bin/uname
#optional external program: /usr/bin/logger
#shell builtins: set, case, esac, exec, echo, exit, :, [
#shell features: charset wildcards, $(), ${}, &&, ||, >>, >&2
# Note2: This script is optimized to minimize lines/commands before
#doing a successful exec
#also, no variables (not even PATH) are used or touched in the
#success case.

Side note: I think that it is prudent to always have a clear upgrade plan
from stable to current upload, during the woody->sarge upgrade I was hit by
several (mostly minor) issues caused by relatively old changes that never
got the upgrade plan right, including just about every sarge package with a
NEWS file (support for displaying NEWS files was a post-woody feature, so
none of those upgrade instructions were displayed during the upgrade that
they addressed!).

Bug#317583: whois fails on Dotster-registered domains when WHOIS_HIDE set

2005-07-09 Thread Decklin Foster
Package: whois
Version: 4.7.5
Severity: normal

In my environment, I have WHOIS_HIDE set to 1 to reduce annoying legal
messages from whois. Today I noticed that this causes whois lookups to
fail when requesting information from the Dotster (dotster.com) whois
servers.

I can only assume that Dotster (and not any other registrars) did in
fact change their disclaimer recently. Other domains work fine, and
Dotster-registered domains work with WHOIS_HIDE unset.

I am unfamiliar with the implementation of the whois protocol (perhaps
the server asks for the hash of an approved disclaimer text before
proceeding), but I think at least a fallback to whatever whois does
without -H or WHOIS_HIDE turned on (if not an outright slash-&-burn of
the disclaimer out of the results in spite of what the server wants)
would be an improvement.

Bug#258511: af: FTBFS with gcc-3.4: conflicting types for 'malloc'

2005-07-09 Thread Roger Leigh
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

This patch does the minimum required to make af compile, but there are
a number of serious problems with the source:

* It's written in K&R C. This has been obsolete for 16 years, and
  must be converted. GCC will not support K&R forever; -traditional
  has already been removed.
* It wrongly prototypes all the functions and exported variables from
  the standard library, including errno. This is *totally broken*,
  and will result in a non-functional program on a modern glibc, and
  will also fail on amd64.

So, for each C file in the source, you need to:

* Remove *all* function prototypes from external libraries.
* Make sure all the required standard headers are included.
* Remove all variables (e.g. getopt optopt etc.) that are marked
* extern in the standard headers.
* Use ISO C function definitions and declarations instead of the old
  K&R ones.
* If functions are used in compilation units other than the one they
  were defined in, make sure they are prototyped in a header.

If upstream is dead, or you are not able to do this, I suggest you
request its removal, because it's well obsolete as it stands. If
upstream think this is acceptable in 2005, they need whacking with a
cluebat.

Regards,
Roger

Bug#249372: Please enable login for GNU/Hurd

2005-07-09 Thread Michael Banck
Hey people,

this patch got applied a while ago, which makes /bin/login being
provided by the login package and passwd Depend on it. Thus,
shadow/passwd/login is broken on Debian GNU/Hurd right now, and
consequently postinsts trying to add users (like openssh, hurd) fail and
thus installation of Debian GNU/Hurd is impossible right now.

What was the rationale for switching to shadow for login?

Just removing /bin/login from the Hurd package is not enough, the login
shell will just execute shadow's login binary and fail miserably.

Is anybody going to provide a solution for the hurd package in the next
couple of days? If not, I will request this to be reverted.

thanks,

Michael

Bug#317579: Please rebuild against libaa / slang2

2005-07-09 Thread Alastair McKinstry
Package: xawtv
Severity: normal

Please rebuild xawtv using aalib >= 1.4p5-28, with libaa1-dev instead of
aalib1-dev.
This will build against the correct package names (name of aalib1 now changed as
part of policy) and remove unnecessary dependencies on e.g. slang1,
because of improvements in aalib-config.

Alastair

I'm upgrading this bug to serious because it caused a build failure on

seems to be some glibc header problem on that architecture.)

Bug#317578: libsdl1.2-dev: Broken build dependencies and dependencies on libaa1-dev

2005-07-09 Thread Roger Leigh
Package: libsdl1.2-dev
Version: 1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007-5
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

aalib1-dev has been renamed to libaa1-dev. As a result, the build
depdendency on aalib1-dev needs replacing. In addition, libsdl1.2-dev
depends upon aalib1-dev, and this also needs replacing.

This needs fixing very soon, because it is causing all packaged
build-depending on libsdl to FTBFS.

Roger

Bug#312109: gnucash: Segmentation Fault in guile-1.6

2005-07-09 Thread Federico Sevilla III
Hi Thomas,

Just a follow-up. I purged GnuCash and all dependencies I could track
down that didn't cause other applications I have installed to be
removed, then reinstalled them, but to no avail. GnuCash still crashes
with a segmentation fault in guile-1.6.

I don't know if this will be worth anything, but here's the list of
applications I was able to purge and then reinstall (not just "apt-get
--reinstall"):

bonobo gconf gnucash gnucash-common guile-1.6 guile-1.6-libs
guile-1.6-slib libbonobo2 libdate-manip-perl libefs1
libfinance-quote-perl libgal-data libgal23 libgconf11
libgdk-pixbuf-gnome2 libgdk-pixbuf2 libghttp1 libgnomeprint-bin
libgnomeprint-data libgnomeprint15 libgtkhtml1.1-3 libguile-ltdl-1
libguppi16 libgwrapguile1 libhtml-tableextract-perl libltdl3 liboaf0
libofx1 libosp4 libqthreads-12 libzvt2 oaf slib

Before running GnuCash, I also removed all files and directories from my
home directory matching the case-insensitive patterns '*gnucash*',
'.*gnucash*', '*gtk*' and '.*gtk*':

~/.gnucash
~/.gnome/GnuCash
~/.gnome/accels/GnuCash
~/.gtkrc-1.2-gnome2

Again, is there anything else I can do to help you track down this
problem? This is a fresh install of Sarge, not an upgrade from Woody or
some previous snapshot of Sid.

Just in case it will help, here's a full list of packages installed
(suited for COLUMNS=143 since COLUMNS=80 truncates some package names).

Bug#317577: libapache-mod-php4: php_value specified in within a virtualhost-section may spread to other v-hosts

2005-07-09 Thread Carsten Wolff
Package: libapache-mod-php4
Version: 4:4.3.10-15
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

In my sarge installation I experience problems, that are at least
related to this upstream bugreport:

http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=25753

This (closed) report states, that the problem is fixed by a 3-line patch. That
code is in the 4.3.10-15 package, but still mod_php shows the same behaviour
under some circumstances:

I have several virtualhosts on my system. Some of them I had configured
to use phpbb2 from debian. For that the phpbb2-package suggests to load
per-virtualhost configurations by adding a "php_value auto_prepend_file"
directive to the respective virtualhost-section. So I did:

ServerName v1.xyz.ab
DocumentRoot /usr/share/phpbb2/site
php_value auto_prepend_file /etc/phpbb2/v1.xyz.ab.php

ServerName v2.xyz.ab
DocumentRoot /usr/share/phpbb2/site
php_value auto_prepend_file /etc/phpbb2/v2.xyz.ab.php

Now when I open v1.xyz.ab in a browser, it will randomly load either
configuration, depending on which child-process answers the request. if
I add a phpinfo(); at the right place, I can even see, that
"auto_prepend_file" sporadically has the (wrong) value
"/etc/phpbb2/v2.xyz.ab.php".

The upstram bugreport states, this would have only occured before their
bugfix, when a php-source-file had the "x" flag set. Of course the
source from phpbb2 has 644 rights and appearently, there are still some
other situations, where the bug occurs.

This bug is at least annoying, preventing the use of per-virtualhost
configuration. It can even be dangerous, if f.e. base-dir restrictions
are applied to the wrong virtualhosts, so that users gain access to data
of other users.

For more Information, f.e. for help reproducing the error, please feel
free to ask.

Cheers
Carsten

Bug#292119: More info

2005-07-09 Thread Romain Francoise
severity 292119 important

quit

I can reproduce this bug very easily by launching an ediff session in a
maximized terminal (209x62) and then unmaximizing the terminal to return
to the default size (80x25). Using ediff-{previous,next}-difference
isn't necessary, and network latency is obviously not an issue since I'm
running this locally.

This bug is fixed in the upcoming Emacs 22 since I can't reproduce it
with my CVS version.

Bug#309739: woody is still vulnerable to CAN-2005-1544

2005-07-09 Thread Jay Berkenbilt

Some time ago, a bug was posted about tiff being vulnerable to
CAN-2005-1544: a bug that caused and exploitable segmentation fault on
files with certain bad BitsPerSample values (making it a potential DOS
bug). The fix is already in sarge. I had posted a patch against the
version of the package in Woody some time ago, but I had not tested
it. I have now built and tested this in a woody environment, and I
believe that it does resolve the problem. The attached patch is
identical to the other one except that it also patches
debian/changelog. Feel free to disregard that part and treat this a
security NMU. The portion of the patch that updates tif_dirread.c
should be fine. Bug 309739 is still open (tagged woody). My patch to
the changelog closes it. If this gets uploaded in some other way,
someone can manually close the bug. Please let me know if there's
anything else I need to do with this. Thanks!

Bug#316492: apt-move: A work-around

2005-07-09 Thread Graham Williams
Package: apt-move
Version: 4.2.23
Followup-For: Bug #316492

I had the same problem. Seems like the new apt provides
libapt-pkg-libc6.3-5-3.9 and apt-move requires
libapt-pkg-libc6.3-5-3.3.

My fix was:

  wajig source apt-move
  cd apt-move-4.2.23
  wajig build apt-move
  wajig install apt-move_4.2.23_i386.deb

Not sure why this should have worked - if this is the actual
source of apt-move

Regards,
Graham

There is no such thing as a copyrighted name. The name does appear to have
been a trademark at one time, but if enough time has gone by without a
product being marketed under that name the trademark will have lapsed.

Bug#317575: /usr/bin/dpkg-architecture: dpkg-architecture should tell the libdir

2005-07-09 Thread Goswin Brederlow
Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.10.27
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/dpkg-architecture

Hi,

I would like for dpkg-architecture to include 3 more variables:

For single arch systems:
DEB_HOST_LIBDIR   = lib

For native 32bit biarch systems:
DEB_HOST_LIBDIR   = lib
DEB_HOST_LIB32DIR = lib
DEB_HOST_LIB64DIR = lib64

For native 64bit biarch systems:
DEB_HOST_LIBDIR   = lib
DEB_HOST_LIB32DIR = lib32
DEB_HOST_LIB64DIR = lib

Those would later change once multiarch is ready:
DEB_HOST_LIBDIR   = lib/-
DEB_HOST_LIB32DIR = lib/-
DEB_HOST_LIB64DIR = lib/-

Why should dpkg-architecture care about them?
-

Currently library placement differs between architectures and
even distributions (e.g. debian amd64 and ubuntu amd64) and finding
the right FHS compliant spot is a bit of a mess for packages. Instead
of duplicating this in every package a central location would be much
neater.

Having this in one place also alows to change it to the multiarch dirs
later and packages can easily be recompiled for the new locations.
Especialy while getting multiarch started this will be very helpfull
to have one source that works with both the old and the new place for
libs.

If you give me the go ahead I can supply a patch for this.

MfG
Goswin
