Bug#327137: ITP: CVSNT -- A better CVS

2005-09-07 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andreas Tscharner <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: CVSNT
  Version : 2.5.02.2064
  Upstream Author : Tony Hoyle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.cvsnt.org/wiki/
* License : (GPL and LGPL)
  Description : CVSNT - A better CVS

CVSNT is an advanced multiplatform version control system. Compatible
with the industry standard CVS protocol, it now supports many more
features:
* Authentication via all standard CVS protocols (pserver, ext and
gserver) and new protocols: server, sserver and sspi
* Secure transport support via sserver or encrypted sspi
* MergePoint processing means no more tagging to merge
* Per branch ACLs for more granular access control
* Unicode support
* Better handling of binary files (Binary Diff and/or Binary
Compression)
* Under active development

The name originates from a CVS port to Windows. Meanwhile it was ported
back on GNU/Linux (development is under GNU/Linux) and runs on different
systems.

Bug#327136: jwm: installs alternative link in $PWD instead of /usr/bin

2005-09-07 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: jwm
Version: 0.23-2
Severity: important

jwm postinst calls update-alternatives with incorrect arguments.
The result is that the /usr/bin/x-window-manager link disappears
and is instead created in whatever happens to be the current working
directory of the postinst script.

Technically this breaks unrelated software, but I won't suggest
critical severity for this problem.

Bug#326970: dictd: Dictdconfig improvement managing dictionary names

2005-09-07 Thread Thomas Petazzoni
Hi,

Kirk Hilliard a écrit :

> You will need to add the desired database names to the database as
> definitions for 00-database-short-cs and 00-database-short-de.

I've fixed the dict-revo Debian package, so that:
 1) it doesn't generate useless symlinks, since dictdconfig now allows
multiple indexes for the same database
 2) add some 00-database-short-$LANGUAGE at the beginning of the
database. Here's the beginning of the database file revo.dict.dz:

=
00-database-short-cs
  Reta Vortaro, cxehxa indekso
00-database-short-de
  Reta Vortaro, germana indekso
00-database-short-en
  Reta Vortaro, angla indekso

  Reta Vortaro, esperanta indekso
00-database-short-es
  Reta Vortaro, hispana indekso
00-database-short-fr
  Reta Vortaro, franca indekso
00-database-short-la
  Reta Vortaro, latina indekso
00-database-short-ru
  Reta Vortaro, rusa indekso
00-database-short-tr
  Reta Vortaro, turka indekso
00-database-utf8

 Reta Vortaro
00-database-info
Dosiero estas kreita el la fontoj de la Reta Vortaro je Don Apr 7
21:22:00 CEST 2005
=

When I install the package, the patched dictdconfig correctly add
entries in /var/lib/dictd/db.list, such as:

database revo.cs {
  data /usr/share/dictd/revo.dict.dz
  index /usr/share/dictd/revo.cs.index
  name @00-database-short-cs
}

However, dictd fails to start, with the following error in the syslog
(when started with option -s):

Sep 7 23:48:22 crazy dictd[20150]: :I: 20150 starting dictd 1.9.15/rf
on Linux 2.6.11.11 Wed Sep 7 23:48:22 2005
Sep 7 23:48:22 crazy dictd[20150]: parse error

If I remove the "name @00..." lines from the db.list files, then dictd
starts correctly.

So, either it's a bug in dictd, or I incorrectly modified the .dict.dz file.

Any idea ?

(The work is still available at http://thomas.enix.org/pub/revo/).

Sincerly,

Thomas

Bug#322723: 'ip route' kernel problem w/ gcc-4.0

On Wednesday 07 September 2005 23:21, you wrote:
> It would be extremely helpful if you could find a way to reproduce

Well, I think the problem can also be reproduced outside a
debian-installer environment (getting linux-image-2.6.12-1-386 (2.6.12-2)
out of the archives and running 'ip route add' should reproduce it), but
I've seen no other commands than 'ip route add' fail and that does
require root...

Unfortunately I have hardly any C background and feel I've already passed
the limits of what I can do (a lot of the info was gathered with help of
joeyh and waldi).
Maybe the best thing would be to work together with the kernel team on
this issue.

Hmm. waldi just pointed me at #325670 on IRC. Looks like it may be
related.

Try using a Debian package of J2SE 5.0 built using java-package
instead of a package installed in /usr/local.

I'm using this same version (1.5.0_04-b05) of J2SE.

Try installing sun-j2sdk1.5 or sun-j2re1.5.

So, following our private discuss concerning this, just go for it! I bet
we have more to gain to rapidly get a working 1.2.0 version in unstable
than waiting for my 1.2.2 release. BTW I will ask my sponsor to upload
things as soon as I'm ready. Your work will at least give me the time to
concentrate my effort on getting a proper 1.2.2 package.

Hello, folks!

I've just received a vacation message triggered by a nagios notification

header like Precedence: auto-generated or Auto-Submitted:
some-string-which-is-not-no. RFC 3834 gives no direct advise for this
case, but it should work.

Bug#304890: libraw1394-5: new upstream release available

2005-09-07 Thread Marcio Teixeira
Hi

I'm working on FreeBoB Debian packaging:

http://freebob.sourceforge.net/index.php/Main_Page (upstream project)
https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-freebob
http://pkg-freebob.alioth.debian.org

For buil FreeBoB, libraw1394 must be updated: we need version > or =
1.2.0. The problem: on unstable, version is 1.1.0. By this reason, I'm
working on new upstream (1.2.0, svn rev 154):

deb http://pkg-freebob.alioth.debian.org/debian unstable main
deb-src http://pkg-freebob.alioth.debian.org/debian unstable main

I need last svn snapshot. But (svn|www).linux1394.org is down. So,
could something send me it?.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Just to test : could you compile EasyTAG from sources and send me again

solve the problem on your system.

I filed it against the locales package first since I assumed the fix was
in the file /usr/share/i18n/locales/POSIX, which is in the locales
package.

Reassigning to libc6 sounds fine, but are you sure the bug is in the
locale and localedef programs? Isn't it in the library source itself?

What is that supposed to mean? There's no reason for a package built
with gcc 3 to be unusable, and you failed to include a description of

Bug#327144: adduser: calls chage even when shadow passwords aren't being used

2005-09-07 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: adduser
Version: 3.67

adduser calls (as far as I can determine, not knowing perl) chage for
new system accounts unconditionally. chage fails when shadow passwords
are not being used. This causes some packages to fail to install (at
least under piuparts in a chroot).

Would it make sense to only call chage when /etc/shadow exists or
possibly only if the newly created account is in /etc/shadow?
(Alternatively, if shadowless configurations are to be unsupported, that
is fine by me, I'll fix piuparts to make such chroots.)

Both bugs talk about GCC 4.0.2. The Debian package is still 4.0.1

However, with gcc-snapshot (4.1.0 CVS), the problems are indeed gone.

Package: flashplugin-nonfree

The latest version of flashplugin-nonfree in unstable causes the latest
firefox to crash when it views flash animations. This is probably due to
issues related to the C++ transition. Until macromedia compiles a new
version of the plugin, the flashplugin package should ensure that
firefox does not try to use it if the C++ libraries are incompatible.

The firefox version I have installed is 1.0.6-4

Of course i care. And i don't see the exact reason why you would like to
remove packages from testing to allow anything.

I don't see any reason to work around plenty of packages when this is
for sure an important toolchain bug which cannot be delayed for long and
my packages are not important ones and are already available
(unaffected) for most architectures.

Yeah, right.
Fact is my package is not selecting -O3, this is python distutils'
choice. So at least _all_ python modules are broken the same way, and
probably several other packages.

So if you really think this toolchain fix is not gonna come this fast, i
suggest we ask the python maintainers to switch default options to -O2
and then i would rebuild my packages.

Bug#327149: ftp.debian.org: Remove thoughttracker

2005-09-07 Thread Claire Connelly

Package: ftp.debian.org
Version: any
Severity: normal

The thoughttracker package should be removed from the archive.

The upstream developer graduated from university and promptly
vanished from the 'Net; extensive searches have failed to turn up
a current address for him. Even before he graduated, he had
ceased development on the application.

I also believe there are a number of much better, maintained
alternatives in the archive.

I have been unable to upload a newer (Debian) version that
incorporates the NMU fixes. Not sure why, but it contributes to
my lack of enthusiasm for continuing to maintain the package.

Thanks,

   Claire

Quite the contrary; they *love* collateral damage. If they can make

There is adduser-ng, but we call adduser specifically. I am puzzled as to
why the identical command would work from a shell but not in our postinst.

I have tried again on unstable, and I am still unable to reproduce.

2005-09-07 Thread Peter Eisentraut
Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.32

Justification: violation of release policy (clause 2)

The command cdbs-edit-patch requires the command debclean to operate, which is
in
package devscripts, but there is no dependency or other relationship declared to
that package.

I think it may be simpler to peek into what dpatch-edit-patch does. AFAICT, it
doesn't need debclean, probably calls debian/rules clean directly.

No, net-snmp needs to be uploaded with an SOVERSION bump, THEN PHP needs
to be recompiled. Recompiling against the currently broken library
won't be doing anyone any favours. (for now, if you want php5-snmp,

Bug#327154: make: command line variables not exported to $(shell)

2005-09-07 Thread Peter Samuelson
Package: make
Version: 3.80-11

'make' does not export command-line-derived variables to subshells
launched via $(shell):

  all:
@echo FOO is $$FOO,$(shell echo $(FOO)),$(shell echo $$FOO)

If I run it with 'FOO=1 make', it prints:

  FOO is 1,1,1

...as I expected. But if I run it with 'make FOO=1' or 'make FOO:=1',
it prints:

  FOO is 1,1,

which I certainly did not expect. Passing FOO separately from the
environment and the command line, 'FOO=1 make FOO=2':

  FOO is 2,2,1

This might not be a bug, but I can't find it documentated.

Bug#319100: debootstrap: fakechroot variant described in docs but apparently nonexistant

2005-09-07 Thread eichin
> The sarge distribution is working. The sid distribution is missing
> fakechroot support already but I'm just working on this
> subject. Please wait for new release.

The sarge version is *not* working: there are helper scripts in
/usr/share/doc/fakechroot/examples and a patch for debootstrap in the
readme... but the "debootstrap --fakechroot" mentioned isn't actually
part of the debootstrap in sarge (ie. you'd have to apply the patch to
a local copy or something.)

I do like the idea of using the --variant support for this, since the
fakechroot package could supply the alternate "sarge.fakechroot"
scripts; chroot seems to be the only thing preventing the use of
pdebuild by entirely unprivileged users, which is the reason
fakechroot interests me...

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem[2] that will cause your

Bug#322620: Please reopen the bug

2005-09-07 Thread James 'Ender' Brown
It wouldn't exactly be 'easy' to fix. A large number of hacks would have
to be added to work around all the various instances of dialog vs
subtitle mismatchng.

As I stated before, the inconsistency (by design or not) is part of the
package... A lot of dialog lines don't match the subtitles exactly, and
we have no intention to fix this upstream.

Actual game BUGS are a different matter, but we do not consider this to
be a bug.

Not here. The error message is displayed first, but is discarded
(so quickly that it can't be read) when the -c option is used (with
or without -X).

> Are you suggesting that dict should not open the pager when there is

Yes, this would be a solution. But I think that there are two cases.

1) The contents are empty, as above. In this case, opening the pager
   isn't necessary.

2) There are some contents, in which case the error message may just
be a warning or some partial error. I don't know if this can happen.
Here dict could wait for a key before starting the pager, or the
error message could be sent to the pager.

Marco,

I just installed udev 0.068-2 and had exactly the same problem. The
permissions of several devices were not correctly set (like /dev/null,
urandom for example).

oyster:/home/guillaum# ls -l /etc/udev/rules.d/

../cd-aliases.rules
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 13 Dec 26  2004 udev.rules -> ../udev.rules
oyster:/home/guillaum#

Linking /etc/udev/permissions.rules to
/etc/udev/rules.d/020_permissions.rules as described in the log solved
the problem.

Thanks,

Guillaume.

Bug#325996: ftp.debian.org: please remove konq-speaker from testing/unstable

2005-09-07 Thread Ben Burton
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

The konq-speaker package has outlived its usefulness. There has been no
upstream action on konq-speaker for several years, and the "official"
KDE text-to-speech system shipped with kdeaccessibility is now
sophisticated enough that I think konq-speaker will not be missed.

Please remove konq-speaker from unstable (and from testing when
appropriate).

Note that I was the maintainer of konq-speaker from its initial upload
until just last week, when I orphaned it (#325996). Since taking a
closer look at KDE 3.4, I have decided that it's better removed instead.

Ben.

stylesheet for the Zinn theme is not loaded, hence breaking it.

Trivial patch included.

Cheers,
Nic.

Hmm. Sounds very familiar.

After much research...

I thought there was a way to reuse sockets without having to unlink() the
old one. Looks like I was wrong. The observation that SO_REUSEADDR should
work for AF_UNIX sockets seems to be shown again. :-(

Looks like sysklogd indeed likely fail to setup the socket, and as Bernd
Eckenfels observed simply continues doing the rest of its job. This means
in their default configuration running syslog-ng/sysklogd *requires* /dev
to be writable. I believe this qualifies as a policy (possibly FHS?)
violation. Seems that /dev/log should be a symbolic link to a socket in
/var/run, which *will* be writable. This then becomes an error with the
default configuration.

Bug#326959: instalation problem/bug

2005-09-07 Thread Lucas Szybalski
this has worked

Installation as expert (expert26) as usual. But you need to take care
of two sound driver modules that will screw your system up. If you let
hotplug auto-load the OSS driver for i810 cards, the kernel oopses
(null pointer dereference). Before leaving the installation system,
one should bring up a shell and say:

 rm /lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/kernel/sound/oss/i810_audio.ko

The second trap is ALSA's snd-intel8x0m driver, which is somewhat
broken. If hotplug loads it, you won't hear any sound because it keeps
sitting on a semaphore. So get rid of it for the moment:

 rm /lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0m.ko

Still no popup here. Any extensions installed? Could it be a
particular ad?

Bug#327165: pioneers-client has problems with mouse and toolbar.

2005-09-07 Thread Steve Kemp
Package: pioneers-client
Version: 0.9.23-1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

The toolbar upon the pioneers-client appears to behave strangely.

When the mouse is over a disabled button it cannot be clicked when
it is enabled without moving away from the current location.

This is hard to describe, but simple to test.

  1. Join a game (any kind) with more than two players. (human or ai).
  2. When it is *not* your turn move your mouse pointer over the
 "roll dice" button.
  3. When it becomes your turn the "roll dice" button becomes enabled.
  4. Note the problem.

What *should* happen is that the "roll dice" button becomes enabled
 and you click it immediately.

What actually happens is that you cannot click the button at all.
Instead you must move your mouse pointer away from the button, then
 back onto it to click.

This slows down the game a lot.

(It seems that pioneers is significantly slower to play than gnocatan
was - but I can't see whether that is the server, the client-ai
package, or my system which is causing the delay).

Bug#327159: Missing dependency on kdepim

kdebluetooth fails to build because it cannot link against
/usr/lib/libkonnector.so and /usr/lib/libksync2.so. These symlinks,
provided by kdepim-dev, are present because kdebluetooth build-depends
on kdepim-dev, but the files that they point to are not present
because kdepim-dev does not depend on kdepim.

First of all, thanks for the patch and sorry for not replying. I've
been on holidays the past few weeks. And I'm currently wading through
the usual backlog. One of the updates I wanted to do was inetutils. If
you see I've not done so in a week or so, please go ahead and NMU.

Strictly speaking, opportunistic dependencies are allowed; if a package
includes optional utilities that are not required for the main purpose
of the package, it is generally considered acceptable to not list the
dependencies of those optional utilities.

Can you try with another flash player (maybe the non-free one) and see
if that has problems. It could a problem with swf-player and not

Sorry dann, I actually made this change in my svn repo and never made
and upload, and the severity on the bug was too low so it didn't
capture my attention. An upload should be in incoming as we speak.

Bug#327167: libboost-dev: please prevent very long compiler warning

2005-09-07 Thread Ben Burton
Package: libboost-dev
Version: 1.33.0-1
Severity: minor
Tags: upstream patch

Hi,

I'm using boost.python, and for every one of my source files I get a
compiler warning from /usr/include/boost/tuple/detail/tuple_basic.hpp.

Unfortunately this compiler warning is about 100 lines long, and so it's
really quite hard to find warnings in my own code amongst all the noise.

It should be a trivial fix. The warning is:

/usr/include/boost/tuple/detail/tuple_basic.hpp:366: warning: unused
parameter 't1'

It should just be a matter of removing the unused variable name. The
(one-line) patch is included below:

Presumably you are adding these before the index is built.

It is in dictd, but I'm not sure if it is a bug or a feature. The
parser is expecting a TOKEN_STRING, which the scanner can provide as
from either a word (can't contain a @) or a string (which must be
quoted). I will try to decide if the scanner needs to be liberalized,
but in the mean time, try this:

-- 8< --
diff -u dictdconfig.old dictdconfig
--- dictdconfig.old 2005-09-07 20:41:11.0 -0400

We can also override the "00-database-info" line. This is what is
returned from a "dict -i " query. Do you think that is
desirable? Unfortunately, I don't see a way of making it optional.

Bug#327170: xpdf-reader: Always fails to allocate fonts on first try

2005-09-07 Thread Andrew T. Young
Package: xpdf-reader
Version: 3.00-13
Severity: normal

Since the upgrade to sarge, I find that xpdf always fails on the first
try with a message like:

X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
Serial number of failed request: 455
Current serial number in output stream: 456

But then if I just re-issue the *same* command line, it works.

On Googling for the error message, I came upon Debian Bug #238100, in
which Branden Robinson said:

Any app that doesn't fall back to doing video via the MIT-SHM extension
rather than XVideo should probably have a bug filed against it.

[That was in response to another package that provoked a similar
message.] (That's why I'm reporting the bug as due to xpdf rather than
the X server; no other programs are producing it.)

Let me also point out

http://www.xfree86.org/current/isc8.html

where there is a comment (again about a similar X error message) that

You also should increase MAXUMEM to its maximum, else programs
may die with ... [a BadAlloc error]

and suggests tuning kernel parameters with something called xf86install,
which I don't seem to have.

If this is a configuration problem, I'd appreciate a pointer on how to
fix it. I'm sending this from an AMD Athlon box, but the same problem
exists on a P III box with similar software.

passwd upstream has again changed the error code that adduser tries to
catch in that case.

Bug#327144: adduser: calls chage even when shadow passwords aren't being used

Actually, it shouldn't, starting with version 3.65:
  * do not abort if chage returns exit code 3. This is an indication
that password aging cannot be set due to shadow not being enabled.
Closes: #316089, #317944.

The only chage call, in line 397, has its return code handled in this
way.

However, the experimental version of shadow returns a different error
code on chage failure due to shadow not enabled, and adduser is not
yet adapted. Which version of shadow do you have installed?

Greetings
Marc

Bug#327172: include= no-longer works

2005-09-07 Thread ms419

Package: pdns
Version: 2.9.18-2

I used to include configuration fragments in pdns.conf using -

include=

- but this no-longer works - pdns ignores directives in the
configuration fragment

Directives in the configuration fragment are effective if I manually
substitute them for the include directive in pdns.conf

I'm not 100% certain as of which version this stopped working

Many thanks for maintaining PowerDNS!

Last message is Account Wizard's dialog box displaying account settings
just entered on first run. Now I disable "Download messages now"
checkbox and click Finish. Then is connects to my pop server, tries to
auth and download messages, of course it asks for password before.

This (rather immense) patch to dpkg-scanpackages.pl allows for
multiple versions of a package in a Packages file (-m), outputing
help, and fixes a rather insiduous bug in vercmp besides generally
making the code far less insane than it was previously.

That appears to be the behaviour I would expect, but is not what
 I see.

  Yes it does.

The behaviour only seems to affect whether the border of the button
is shown, and whether things can be clicked.

This is a snippet from the chat window, playing in the "Conquest"
map. Four players, three AI, one human (skx).

07:01:16 Begin turn 1 for skx.
07:01:19 skx rolled 7.
07:01:20 skx moved the robber.
07:01:21 You stole a brick card from Coolio.
07:01:27 Begin turn 2 for Saddam Hussein.
07:01:28 Saddam Hussein rolled 10.
07:01:28 Saddam Hussein receives an ore card.
07:01:29 Begin turn 2 for Godzilla.
07:01:29 Godzilla rolled 7.
07:01:30 Godzilla moved the robber.
07:01:30 Godzilla stole a resource from Saddam Hussein.
07:01:31 Begin turn 2 for Coolio.
07:01:31 Coolio rolled 7.
07:01:32 Coolio moved the robber.
07:01:32 Coolio stole a resource from Saddam Hussein.
07:01:33 Begin turn 2 for skx.

Notice the timestamps show almost a second for each step? That
seems to me to be much slower than previously although I dont
 have logs to prove it.

Thanks for your comments anyway. If nobody else can confirm
the toolbar issue I guess I could put it down to my system, but
I'm not running anything sufficiently unusual for me to suspect
 this.
